Call me Thomas (I am), but also Jesus overthrew the money chargers. This is where my faith makes no sense. I'm sorry, but Jesus is asking us all to build ourselves up then to be a loser and destory it? I am a Catholic and this I still can't marry with my ability as a business person that has to be shrewd.
Interesting point. I believe that as God the son, Jesus probably exhibited some of the father’s (righteous) wrath against not the tax collectors themselves, but what they were doing. They had made the house of God, a holy site, into what Jesus called ‘a den of robbers’, not unlike someone running a brothel inside of a church. Ultimately, I believe the Christian should defend himself in wrong doing, and try to keep his head above water, but should also not take advantage of others and avoid fighting, self-love, and hatred of others, which are all things of evil. Part of humility is accepting that despite our best efforts, sometimes God wants us to fail, and we don’t know why, we just accept it for what it is. Hope this helped.
Meekness causes you to avoid defending YOURSELF. Jesus has righteous anger at the crooks in the temple and was defending His Father’s house. This is not a contradiction.
