It honestly really sucks seeing all this. I have been pumped for this game since it was announced only for it to get a bad localization that will probably hit EOS before you know it. The biggest thing is I don't think Amazon even understands who they are selling this game to. They keep talking about this being a game to play with your parents / kids, but that is insanely dumb.
Oh, they know the market. PSO2 Base made the same censorship decisions for Global launch and it only went into critical condition after NGS had its massive content drought. Haven't played Lost Ark, but judging by the Steam reviews those that players are, again, more concerned about content releases being slowed down. If I was doing market research, these two would tell me that censorship doesn't matter as long as the game has content. If you were expecting the game to be unadulterated, the red flag should've been at the start when the directors of the game said they wanted Blue Protocol to be an IP that is popular globally, not just in Japan. Going for mass appeal ALWAYS comes with the caveat of being subject to outrageous censorship because every society has different acceptability standards for a 'Teen' rating, i.e. kids and adults as the audience, which is the rating both Bandai and AGS were aiming for if you looked at interviews from the past year. The game was never not going to be censored as long as it was in the hands of the entertainment industry who is concerned about being entertaining to the general market above not screwing with the source material. You need a third-party/NPO who's actually dedicated to making sure foreign games stay true to their original form (like we have with manga translation circles) when they come westward, not an already established corp who has fingers in other pies to feed them if their gaming venture isn't profitable.

The only thing they may know is that people will still play despite the censorship, but that is true of any game that is hyped or unique, so it is not as if Amazon understands anything about their target audience (BP fans) in particular. They do understand human nature though. The target audience of Blue Protocol in any western country is anime fans, plain and simple. These fans might still play Blue Protocol DESPITE the censorship since the game is one of a kind, but that is not to say that censoring content will help the game in any way. If anything, it will reflect poorly on the games image and stop certain players from giving it a try. So no, they do not understand their target audience. The target audience hates censorship, yet they are censoring large swaths of content. The players might still play despite that, but that does not at all mean that censoring on the side of amazon is productive nor indicative of market research.

Blue Protocol has been my most anticipated release for a long while. But the longer it takes and the more ridiculous the decisions made, my interest has become significantly lower.
I really dislike censorship, honestly this makes Amazon probably my most hated game company after Lost Ark and now this. I won't be playing anymore, at least not the global version. When it comes to JP version aren't they really ban heavy on people outside of JP? If any of the other regions comes out not to censored and not ban heavy outside of their region I'll probably give one of those a go. But at this point all my excitement for the game is dead.

Amazon is revealed to host our version: "Uhoh...okay...maybe they won't mess with it too much..." Monetization schemes are revealed: "I can just ignore it...for the most part, I guess..." This video: "Welp, hype is officially gone." Yeah if there was anything that could be the final nail in the coffin for me, it's censorship. My hype has already been heavily diluted but after watching this, that's it. And it's not even about the type of censorship here. Personally I always make really tall characters so the small character option being removed wouldn't directly affect me. The "Jiggle" option, while I also disagree with being removed, is a novelty and I'm not surprised it was because we're all clearly children that can't handle a girl jiggling. (Though that makes me wonder if physics in general was censored? Or just that animation in char creation?) Child npcs losing their skirts makes zero sense to me. Children in the US wear skirts. When I see that sort of censorship anywhere, I always wonder if the people censoring are actually the ones outing themselves for being peds, because a child in a skirt is not AT ALL "interesting" to me. So yeah most of this doesn't directly affect me, but it's just aggravating to see this happen time and time again for no reason other than appeasing people who *were not going to play this game anyways*. At this point I get the feeling this is gonna be one of those mmos I try out for a bit, play for a couple of days, and then slowly but surely just forget it exists.

One point that I like to bring it up is, they removing things because of Teen rating, but they not removing loot boxes? Yea loot boxes are very teen friendly...... We all know its political and not something that they are getting in trouble with. I do find it quite odd that they're spending more time worrying about how a short character may be interpreted when wearing swimsuits or other outfits that'd be considered revealing, in reference to their T rating. (This at the same time, when other much more intense, sometimes brutal fighting games with jiggle physics and everything that can maintain their T rating in most regions. That argument doesn't make sense.) Then on the other side, they have gambling mechanics (and relatively poor to average rates) to earn some of those swimsuits in the first place. Why gamble for it when it potentially won't look as nice as it did on the JP side? And when you have one less body type to use it on? Much like some other players here, on top of the delay into 2024, when it was supposed to release this year, I'm far less interested in this game now. Amazon's priorities here seem to be misplaced.

Haven't played an anime MMO in well over a decade, I was finally excited to get into another one. It's gone now. I just don't have a tolerance for 'localization' anymore, if it was just some cash shop costumes and enemy names, whatever. But BP was never going to pass FF14 in popularity, and that had no problem including tiny characters, something which DOES contribute to a world's fantasy.
in recent knews they claim they have over 1mil players now lmao if we believe their statistics as fact and not just a lie to overhype but under deliver lol but if we take it as true then its slowly catching up to ffxiv but it by no means going to surpass it not with the awful monetization scheme they are forcing XD but lets pretend that for a moment tho that they do listen to the players suggestions and feedback to improve the game then we will just have to wait and see but so far its not looking good.

We all knew this was coming as soon as it got delayed for the global version, I'm just here to see what exactly they censored, but this game killed itself here the moment they announced that delay. I wish they'd just let you play on JP servers with the english UI. There was a time when I would put up with this, but I really have no interest in a game that launches a year behind the real version for the sole purpose of telling me what a woman has to wear, and what she has to look like. And I don't even play as female characters, I always make myself in games 😂 Bonus points if the main characters are race swapped, the game wouldn't be approachable without an American company telling Japanese developers that their vision and ideas are wrong. It's not so much just the censorship itself, it's that every piece of content will now permanently be a year behind because "Women can't be short, they can't show skin, and they can NOT wear clothes we don't like."
The reason they are so strict about foreigners on JP server is the Japanese finally caught up on how insane current western culture is, and they want none of that.

Glad I'm playing in JP server. I don't even get the censor reasons especially the weird aversion for skirts and short heights lol. If I recall even EN pso2 had limited their height slider on the lower end for the same reasons. I'm currently playing the small body type since it's cute and it's actually funny running around as a heavy smasher with a small frame. Like those typical loli characters with large hammer setups in anime.
I currently play NGS on the global side and we can make small characters but we are hit with height limit. But even so there’s still loli like characters players make anyways. We have Jiggle Physics and skimpy outfits. My female characters cheeks out right now. Lmao.

If you're reading this, don't use AGS to publish your game in the west 1) They'll excessively censor your product. 2) Remove customisation options. 3) Blackwash your NPCs so your world is no longer fantasy the envisioned. 4) Won't improve the security of your game against bots. 5) Cost you reputational damage and lost sales for not considering your options. I knew the reason why they needed to delay the game is due to this. Not because they want to make the game "ready" or they needed to release Throne and Liberty. It's because they need to look into the game, every nook and cranny and censor the shit out of it. Good job on getting that ESG score Amazon. Hopefully modders can undo their censorship, but if that cannot be done, then bye bye Blue Protocol, you'll be the next Lost Ark.
I believe, and I could be wrong, that all if Amazon games and online products are not client side, they are all server side proxy. This means that mods won’t affect the game in any form or the mods may just cause the not to launch. Amazon has a whole new system that can pin point your exact location through VPN and firewalls, so you can’t get a product that isn’t available for you. I say that because their system can and will always check the authenticity of your files to ensure the files are legit and no user added files.

They see most of their players as "problematic," but they have to release SOMETHING. This news hit me hard and I don't think I will be playing the amazon version after this. Playing in the Japanese server is a chore so no dice there either. Not to defend censorship, but the points about changes in Lost Ark at 6:52 are not entirely accurate from that article you are looking at. The first image with the gold/black dress for Korea/Russia and the Blue/Pink dress for EU/NA are actually two entirely different skins. The Korea/Russia skins shown there are free from grinding an in-game currency and are still available, in that exact same form, in EU/NA. The blue/pink skin being shown for EU/NA is a store purchasable skin - it's not even the same skin as the two shown for KR/RU. The artist skins shown in the KR advertisement (7:16, the gold and white outfit with the fox ears) are also available in EU/NA, but yes they did add some shorts under the skirt - not exactly a significant change in my opinion. The character skin change at 7:40 is something that they did push through, on a few other NPCs as well. Not quite censorship, but I don't exactly understand what Amazon was trying to accomplish with that.

If I was their boss I would be pretty upset for them not focusing on the performance and balancing of the game instead using the money I paid them to sit and talk about censoring for the whole year. I don't understand this at all. Comparing the jp/asian culture and the western culture, i would say, the western culture is much more "open" in terms of the clothing style in public real life. I understand they're going at it from a PR perspective, but this just seems so silly objectively. Not to dunk on MMORPG's, but the golden era is arguably past us now. Most MMORPG players now are mature older teens/adults so idk why censorship is even needed. The longer Amazon drags this out, the more interest may wane from people who have been anticipating this game.
Well yes thats true but however back in the usa server on ff14 hyperion 10yrs ago theyre we kids playing the game now. It was a bit awkward when they join in an fc called Lust when that group is truely focusing on well other services on night event clubs + bar but it changed and when the leader decided to invite kids they changed the ruling n became a cafe instead event from there leader lost around 95% of OG members that were put the time n money to stand where it is. I heard the name still up date but the fc was demolished behind the fc leader's back.

I know overall amazon think they are trying to appease the teens “parents” watching them play this game BUT looking at all the teen rated games they have plenty of things that cater to older teens. Just global release and take the rating you get. The mmo audience isn't really kids anymore anyways. In fact, teenagers are only 25% of the audience for all MMO's. Having someone else localize it is really stupid, because you lose a lot of what makes your game yours.

Any one could think of a way to play the JP version on EU servers, when the game is playable in EU later, or will we have to play on JP server because of that? I'm concerned because of Ping. I would have no problem playing on JP servers, but my Ping would be most likely over 250ms
Won’t be possible, they two completely different games. Global and JP are not just different, they are different games. Global version may have a JP voice pack or subtitles, but there won’t be a JP server on the global release. This is similar to how PSO2 Global and JP works. If you want to play with JP people or JP content, you have to download the JP version, your global save doesn’t transfer over and vice versa. Currently, Blue Protocol JP server admins are banning anyone who is not originally and normally connected to the JP server even if you use a VPN. You can still try to play, but everyday you would be risking a chance of being banned and blacklisted, losing all of your progress and it becoming a waste of your time and perhaps money.

Another UA-camr who I watched on this whole situation said that the statement in so many words boiled down to "we did it for a lower rating and because we don't want a certain group of people (anime fans and people who don't mind/enjoy fan service)". It's a shame really because this does look fun but the censorship ruins it for me, and with the game banning western players on the JP side it would have been better off somewhere else or kept over there in Japan at least in my opinion.

It is not only the face type, it is the body size, they cencor. They removed small chars for player and I hate it since I like to be a small hero with great powers. I did not know, that half of the female char player prefer this option, too and it is the most popular decision.
This all just seems trivial from a holistic pov, but still the integrity (or consistency) between world/character designs and story still matters to some people (like me). This isn't the same situation like back when OW made a change to Tracer's emote from something slightly menial and not really fitting to something that fits her character and personality, the current one with Blue Protocol devs being hypocritical by pretending to appeal to all ages when they're literally gacha with MTX and cosmetics? It honestly really sucks seeing all this. I have been pumped for this game since it was announced only for it to get a bad localization that will probably hit EOS before you know it. The biggest thing is I don't think Amazon even understands who they are selling this game to. They keep talking about this being a game to play with your parents / kids, but that is insanely dumb.

Oh, they know the market. PSO2 Base made the same censorship decisions for Global launch and it only went into critical condition after NGS had its massive content drought. Haven't played Lost Ark, but judging by the Steam reviews those that players are, again, more concerned about content releases being slowed down. If I was doing market research, these two would tell me that censorship doesn't matter as long as the game has content.
If you were expecting the game to be unadulterated, the red flag should've been at the start when the directors of the game said they wanted Blue Protocol to be an IP that is popular globally, not just in Japan. Going for mass appeal ALWAYS comes with the caveat of being subject to outrageous censorship because every society has different acceptability standards for a 'Teen' rating, i.e. kids and adults as the audience, which is the rating both Bandai and AGS were aiming for if you looked at interviews from the past year. The game was never not going to be censored as long as it was in the hands of the entertainment industry who is concerned about being entertaining to the general market above not screwing with the source material. You need a third-party/NPO who's actually dedicated to making sure foreign games stay true to their original form (like we have with manga translation circles) when they come westward, not an already established corp who has fingers in other pies to feed them if their gaming venture isn't profitable.

The only thing they may know is that people will still play despite the censorship, but that is true of any game that is hyped or unique, so it is not as if Amazon understands anything about their target audience (BP fans) in particular. They do understand human nature though.
The target audience of Blue Protocol in any western country is anime fans, plain and simple. These fans might still play Blue Protocol DESPITE the censorship since the game is one of a kind, but that is not to say that censoring content will help the game in any way. If anything, it will reflect poorly on the games image and stop certain players from giving it a try. So no, they do not understand their target audience. The target audience hates censorship, yet they are censoring large swaths of content. The players might still play despite that, but that does not at all mean that censoring on the side of amazon is productive nor indicative of market research.
At least so far it's only children and the jiggle physics we haven't lost too much yet

I really dislike censorship, honestly this makes Amazon probably my most hated game company after Lost Ark and now this. I won't be playing anymore, at least not the global version. When it comes to JP version aren't they really ban heavy on people outside of JP? If any of the other regions comes out not to censored and not ban heavy outside of their region I'll probably give one of those a go. But at this point all my excitement for the game is dead.

Yeah if there was anything that could be the final nail in the coffin for me, it's censorship. My hype has already been heavily diluted but after watching this, that's it. And it's not even about the type of censorship here. Personally I always make really tall characters so the small character option being removed wouldn't directly affect me.
The "Jiggle" option, while I also disagree with being removed, is a novelty and I'm not surprised it was because we're all clearly children that can't handle a girl jiggling. (Though that makes me wonder if physics in general was censored? Or just that animation in char creation?)
Child npcs losing their skirts makes zero sense to me. Children in the US wear skirts. When I see that sort of censorship anywhere, I always wonder if the people censoring are actually the ones outing themselves for being peds, because a child in a skirt is not AT ALL "interesting" to me.

I do find it quite odd that they're spending more time worrying about how a short character may be interpreted when wearing swimsuits or other outfits that'd be considered revealing, in reference to their T rating. (This at the same time, when other much more intense, sometimes brutal fighting games with jiggle physics and everything that can maintain their T rating in most regions. That argument doesn't make sense.)
Then on the other side, they have gambling mechanics (and relatively poor to average rates) to earn some of those swimsuits in the first place. Why gamble for it when it potentially won't look as nice as it did on the JP side? And when you have one less body type to use it on?
Much like some other players here, on top of the delay into 2024, when it was supposed to release this year, I'm far less interested in this game now. Amazon's priorities here seem to be misplaced.

Haven't played an anime MMO in well over a decade, I was finally excited to get into another one. It's gone now. I just don't have a tolerance for 'localization' anymore, if it was just some cash shop costumes and enemy names, whatever. But BP was never going to pass FF14 in popularity, and that had no problem including tiny characters, something which DOES contribute to a world's fantasy.
in recent knews they claim they have over 1mil players now lmao if we believe their statistics as fact and not just a lie to overhype but under deliver lol but if we take it as true then its slowly catching up to ffxiv but it by no means going to surpass it not with the awful monetization scheme they are forcing XD but lets pretend that for a moment tho that they do listen to the players suggestions and feedback to improve the game then we will just have to wait and see but so far its not looking good.

We all knew this was coming as soon as it got delayed for the global version, I'm just here to see what exactly they censored, but this game killed itself here the moment they announced that delay.
I wish they'd just let you play on JP servers with the english UI. There was a time when I would put up with this, but I really have no interest in a game that launches a year behind the real version for the sole purpose of telling me what a woman has to wear, and what she has to look like. And I don't even play as female characters, I always make myself in games 😂
Bonus points if the main characters are race swapped, the game wouldn't be approachable without an American company telling Japanese developers that their vision and ideas are wrong.

Glad I'm playing in JP server. I don't even get the censor reasons especially the weird aversion for skirts and short heights lol. If I recall even EN pso2 had limited their height slider on the lower end for the same reasons.
I'm currently playing the small body type since it's cute and it's actually funny running around as a heavy smasher with a small frame. Like those typical loli characters with large hammer setups in anime.
PSO2 still had way better slider, to be honest pso2 is way more adult game than BP.
I currently play NGS on the global side and we can make small characters but we are hit with height limit. But even so there’s still loli like characters players make anyways. We have Jiggle Physics and skimpy outfits. My female characters cheeks out right now. Lmao.

1) They'll excessively censor your product.
2) Remove customisation options.
3) Blackwash your NPCs so your world is no longer fantasy the envisioned.
4) Won't improve the security of your game against bots.
5) Cost you reputational damage and lost sales for not considering your options.

I believe, and I could be wrong, that all if Amazon games and online products are not client side, they are all server side proxy. This means that mods won’t affect the game in any form or the mods may just cause the not to launch. Amazon has a whole new system that can pin point your exact location through VPN and firewalls, so you can’t get a product that isn’t available for you. I say that because their system can and will always check the authenticity of your files to ensure the files are legit and no user added files.

Not to defend censorship, but the points about changes in Lost Ark at 6:52 are not entirely accurate from that article you are looking at. The first image with the gold/black dress for Korea/Russia and the Blue/Pink dress for EU/NA are actually two entirely different skins. The Korea/Russia skins shown there are free from grinding an in-game currency and are still available, in that exact same form, in EU/NA. The blue/pink skin being shown for EU/NA is a store purchasable skin - it's not even the same skin as the two shown for KR/RU.
The artist skins shown in the KR advertisement (7:16, the gold and white outfit with the fox ears) are also available in EU/NA, but yes they did add some shorts under the skirt - not exactly a significant change in my opinion.
The character skin change at 7:40 is something that they did push through, on a few other NPCs as well. Not quite censorship, but I don't exactly understand what Amazon was trying to accomplish with that.

Well yes thats true but however back in the usa server on ff14 hyperion 10yrs ago theyre we kids playing the game now. It was a bit awkward when they join in an fc called Lust when that group is truely focusing on well other services on night event clubs + bar but it changed and when the leader decided to invite kids they changed the ruling n became a cafe instead event from there leader lost around 95% of OG members that were put the time n money to stand where it is. I heard the name still up date but the fc was demolished behind the fc leader's back.

Any one could think of a way to play the JP version on EU servers, when the game is playable in EU later, or will we have to play on JP server because of that? I'm concerned because of Ping. I would have no problem playing on JP servers, but my Ping would be most likely over 250ms
Won’t be possible, they two completely different games. Global and JP are not just different, they are different games. Global version may have a JP voice pack or subtitles, but there won’t be a JP server on the global release. This is similar to how PSO2 Global and JP works. If you want to play with JP people or JP content, you have to download the JP version, your global save doesn’t transfer over and vice versa. Currently, Blue Protocol JP server admins are banning anyone who is not originally and normally connected to the JP server even if you use a VPN. You can still try to play, but everyday you would be risking a chance of being banned and blacklisted, losing all of your progress and it becoming a waste of your time and perhaps money.

I'm starting to have doubts if I want to play the global version. I don't like being censored: games, animes, books, movies. Maybe I just play the JP version. I don't know what Amazon is thinking, this is just ridiculous. I just want to play the game as it is, I don't want to play the kids/family friendly version of it. No thanks.

Another UA-camr who I watched on this whole situation said that the statement in so many words boiled down to "we did it for a lower rating and because we don't want a certain group of people (anime fans and people who don't mind/enjoy fan service)". It's a shame really because this does look fun but the censorship ruins it for me, and with the game banning western players on the JP side it would have been better off somewhere else or kept over there in Japan at least in my opinion.
If i cant play as a shorty in blue protocol, that will be the thing that makes me forget about this game and go back to my chinese gacha games.

I really wanted to play this but idk now :( i like how mihoyo did the thing where for china they jad to censorship certain ourfits so they made it possible for nom china servers/players to choose which one theyblike more. I don't even want to play the small characters, but I think its garbage that we cant have them. Tiny, gun-carrying characters are a staple of anime.

It is so very clear that they fundamentally don't understand their audience and don't have any idea what is important. What da hell, I was so hyped for the game from 2019 and I've been following it for the longest while and when I hear that it's released if I try play JP I'll almost certainly be banned and amazon is removing almost anything that will make the game fun, my excitement as been running dry but this video has just killed it for me

I agree with you these changes they're doing make no sense. The changes to the children characters sure whatever but completely removing options from their character creator is too much. I was excited for global but now I think I'll just be sticking to PSO2 NGS. Ridiculous. Maybe in the future the the JP version won't have such a hard on for keeping out the gaijins and I'll play that instead lmao.
Removing physics from the game only makes the game more two dimensional. Countless examples of needless changes, honestly very disheartening.

It is not only the face type, it is the body size, they cencor. They removed small chars for player and I hate it since I like to be a small hero with great powers.
I did not know, that half of the female char player prefer this option, too and it is the most popular decision.

This all just seems trivial from a holistic pov, but still the integrity (or consistency) between world/character designs and story still matters to some people (like me). This isn't the same situation like back when OW made a change to Tracer's emote from something slightly menial and not really fitting to something that fits her character and personality, the current one with Blue Protocol devs being hypocritical by pretending to appeal to all ages when they're literally gacha with MTX and cosmetics? Do they really want to appeal to a younger audience and also have gambling systems placed in them? Also what if players do prefer the JP designs and are not in a region where they could see that?
