Man you are the happiness of my day for today! I found finally someone who sees things the way I see but that I still hadn't applied them in photography. Hope your next videos will show more. Thanks :)
You're making some good points about some of the shortcomings that I've been seeing with everybody's obsession over labeling themselves or photos as cinematic. The over emphasis on the editing and the lack of things in the photo relating to each other. Making photos look old or like out dated film was used is to instagram what increasing color saturation is to flickr. Just apply it to anything and call it cinematic.
Amazing tips and tutorials. Not only showing tools and settings of editing but actually telling what really takes to make a cinematic shot. Keep this great work. Im so happy I discovered you!
Well im here learnig all I can until I can get my Camara and start shooting... Im all theory right now since I dont have the camara and let me tell you this video is really informative. I have been seeing tons of videos and this one is one of the most useful ones I've seen so far.
Haha the way I found out about them is kinda funny, it was really humid and my lens kept getting misty but just the right amount of mist was actually kinda nice - so then I started googling around for filters to replicate this and turns out they are quite popular among filmmakers!
Before buying an expensive filter, buy a very cheap uv filter and spray it with 2 coats of hair spray. Works like a pro mist filter and is much cheaper.
Just ordered myself a Moment CineBloom Diffusion Filter which looks like a decent alternative to the ProMist. Can't wait to try it out as I've really been getting into night photography recently. Been following you on Insta for some time now (before I deactivated my account that is!) and I really appreciate you taking the time to make these videos. It's been really interesting seeing how you create your awesome work! Keep it up man, looking forward to your next vid.
Great tips. I’m wondering if the term “cinematic” is being blurred/confused with film “noir” recently. The several movie aspect ratios used throughout the various era is another component to pursue. Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel is a great example of all the different ratios used in cinema to tell his story. Kubrick’s use of light and different focal lengths is something to look at too. Cheers!
As an utter and complete novice with the barest minimum equipment and editing resources I happen to have learned a great deal, so thank you. Lucky for me each of my slide shows will have a definite story to tell, and will be shot in a controlled location. The problem is due to the subject mater (plants) and the color plate of the room (breakfast nook turned plant room) I basically have too much brightness. I tried some shots later in the day and at night and then have far too much contrast and shadow. I do plan on painting the room, and changing up the inherent lighting, but that wont always be an option as I expand to taking shots outside this summer. Better bet I'll be watching this video again as I grow along with your other content. Hopefully as my project grows Ill be able to reinvest into better equipment and maybe even a better location(s) only time will tell.
The image of the bus when you talk about 3 dimension and foreground background is super epic! That's my favourite. Great tips I'll go out and try to implement them thank you!
Would love an updated version of this, I follow you on instagram and I think your work has changed substantially from 2 years ago, in a good way. Curious to see if you have any new techniques.
Well Japan is awesome but don't let not being able to travel there stop you from shooting! Always good to practice in less photogenic spots before so you'll be able to crush it in a place like Japan.
Hi guys, sorry about the audio I was a noob back then. Do check out my other more recent videos while you're here, I bought a better mic. Also, find me on social media: twitter.com/teemusphoto instagram.com/teemu.jpeg
Nice advice, thanks. Agreed there are few films shot in portrait! This is photography we are talking about however, generally I agree about the landscape thing - but in a still image sometimes portrait works well and if the aim in 'cinematic' photography is story telling, the greatest achievements tend to be in the single frame - we do not need to be constrained by the aspect ratio or orientation of frame in this respect. We do not have the apparatus, time or actors to create a movie. We do not need to - as the poem to the novel, the still image that captures the greatest potential for multivalence in the broadest audience is the most 'cinematic' regardless of aspect and framing and the 'fiction' is created from reality. This is why it is so fascinating. Thanks again.
I'm thinking my next video is either going to be about A). Analyzing how to make photos in the style of Blade Runner or B.) How to make videos more cinematic. Which one would you like to see next?
👏👏👏 Nice job explaining. Thank you. Btw, what's your usual camera settings when taking photos like these..esp those at night. Thank you. Would appreciate ur feedback 😊
Hey Teemu! I've been following you on instagram for a long time and just discovered you have this channel. I absolutely love it! The content is great and the editing is very premium looking. Keep it up mate 🤩
Nice tips! I'm obsessed with cinematic-look strett photography right now! This video gave me what I needed to go our and try to get better shots instead of just worrying about the editing part :)
For years I’ve been taking photos with the idea of still shot pf a film in my mind but I didnt know what to call it. Until recently I came across this term.

One of the few people who’s actually tried to breakdown what it means to have truly cinematic image!
Right!? before this video I saw one that only spoke of changing colors and nothing else, not something as detailed as this one!

Never even heard of a pro mist filter before but exactly what I've been trying to achieve in post so amazing it can be done whilst shooting!

I don't think techniques have changed, it's more that my mindset these days is more focused towards capturing a mood / shooting video, I think.
Wow you got a new suscriber !!!!
