One tip when cleaning and pushing piston back is to refit into the caliper the lower slide pin, but into to top slide pin position. The caliper is then held firm and no chance of stressing the flexible brake hose.
Been looking at this for the hex size to remove the slide bolts on caliper I’ve tried Allen keys but just turns as the actual bolt is like a star shape anyone have the exact name for the bit? Seen someone said H7 7mm but google it and doesn’t look like the same shape to fit in
*IMPORTANT* Anyone watching this wanting to do this repair. DO NOT torque your guide pins to 30nm + 30 degrees!!!!! Its 30nm only. According to the official Audi repair guide its only 30nm. I torqued mine following this video and overtightened the bolt which now just spins in the thread. Now looking for people to retap the thread in the Wheel bearing housing or worst case scenario it'll be a new wheel bearing housing. Expensive mistake, espcially if you're an ammature who wanted to give changing their brakes a go to save some money. 30nm is absolutely fine DO NOT DO ANY MORE!!
Another thing, the brake disc locator pin (the single screw that goes into the brake disc) has a torque spec of 8nm NOT 13!! Anymore than 8 and you risk overtightening the bolt and you will most definitely have no chance of getting it off again in the future!
One final thing if your brakes are model "1ZA" or "1ZK" (you'll know by checking the vehicle data sticker located under the boot floor and the fact that the brake change is slightly different) the torque spec on the caliper guide pins are 35nm not 30. Any other model (1ZE, 1ZG, 1ZM, 1ZQ, 1ZR, 1ZS) is 30nm
@@PDPPerformance Me too, I have Brilliant Black on my Audi A1 as well. Beautiful color but the paint scratches so easily, so many swirls and circles. 😭How do you deal with it? What wax do you use? Can you make a video about it? Thanks!

Great Video. What size Hex Socket did you use for the front caliper?
Waiting for the answer to this too!
In case anyone else is looking is was an 8mm on 2011 A1
How can you produce a video and not mention the Hex size ?????
7mm
What is the torque setting for the calliper sliding studs please. I couldn't read it on the torque wrench video.
I know its probably too late but on the front caliper sliding pins its 30nm and on the rear the bolts are 35nm
@@restfulbee3762Thank you.
Brilliant made that look real easy👍🏽

Great video! Is your Audi A1 paint color "Brilliant Black" or "Mythos Black"?
BRILLIANT BLACK

In Progress...
It appears to be a H7 hex 7mm allen key socket you need
Hex key for a brake caliper. What were they thinking ??
Cos we've all got allen keys that are long enough for the torque
For the 2011 A1 it was an 8mm for me
Where exactly do you place the axle stand?
What's that brown paste you used for the brake discs?
Copper paste
is it 30 Nm ?
What socket size ?
Great job!! Thank you very much for your help. Do you think opening the brake fluid lid is helpful, or not needed at all?
Sure that’s an additional safety part of the job
So you should open the brake fluid cap when doing this?
