You have a good one there.......so yes, she should have a washing machine to lessen her load.
If you can live without paying rent, you should be able to manage on a smallish budget. We don't have that expense and I put a lot of money into the existing house to get it how we wanted it, because I knew that when my pension became available to me that we could live quite well on that sole income.
Electricity is quite expensive here, so managing that is essential, my bill used to be 5,500 per month, but we have got it down to 4k now. Food can be cheap if you are prepared to eat the Filipino way, but like many Westerners, I like a taste of home, so yes, you are right....it does bump up the shopping bill appreciably.
Medicines can be expensive, I don't have many regular medicines, but antibiotics are very expensive...as I found out when I had an infection.
As you allude to, you can live as cheaply as you wish to.....you just have to downgrade certain things.
Best of luck to both of you :)

I moved here (Metro Cebu) single in Feb 2007 and the least I've ever spent in a month is about P40,000. Fast forward to Sep 2019, with a wife and an 11-year-old, and that minimum is now around P80,000. I do pay rent, but that's only P8,000. We spend at least P10,000 more on grocery, P2,000 more on electricity, and of course an 11-year-old in private school adds at least P6,000 when the smoke clears. Plus we eat out at least twice a week, once fast food and once at a restaurant, for an additional P7,000 or so. Those add up to P32,000 on top of your P36,000. Add monthly allowances for each of us, which is beneficial for all concerned, and welcome to P80,000+.
The Philippines is still cheap compared to the USA. But it's not as cheap as it once was. And incidentals beyond core cost add up. If we lived farther away from Cebu City then expenses would be less. But I have no desire to live that far out. If I can't hail a taxi within a reasonable amount of time, or at all, then I'm too far out :-)

There's also a big difference in product availability. We live in Metro Cebu, south of Cebu City, and somewhat off the beaten path. But HUGE malls, S&R, and Landers are only 25-45 minutes away.

Great Video. Good lady if she cooperates with the family budget (that is arguably why most expats fail). We do great here in South Naga, for a family of 3 for about $1100. Same here for food, some supermarket, some wet market. I need thyroid medicine. We pay mortgage which, other than food, is our greatest expense. For TV we get virtually unlimited programming through Kodi (150 pesos/month, for premium services). You're setting a great example. Thank you!

I will be retiring to Oriental Mindoro, Calapan City as soon as the travel ban is lifted.. My fiancé' and I have a house there and we are in the same category as you, no house payment.. anxious to be in Calapan with my fiancé' again. If you ever “finish” your house, what will you ever do with your time? I think you enjoy working on the house and garden so much. Every house I have owned I worked on as long as I was there. It was a never ending way of life. Perhaps spend more time getting exercise outdoors and tinkering with the landscape.

Comfort food is key. Without my comfort foods from the grocery store I would lose my mind. It seems like you guys have a good budget plan set in place though. Yall should be allset. Also can you get Hulu or Netflix in the Phils? Me an my wife recently dropped cable and got hulu and Netflix and it saved us a tremendous amount. We also have a roku stick so we watch movies on UA-cam all the time. And have you guys ever thought of getting a portable washer machine? They are very cheap and work great and easy to hook up to any water source.
