excellent video.. the frame by frame helped me understand my issue.. ie. you enter the turn low to the water so that the natural rise of the board is accomodated.. 8:20 is where I tend to breach and curse.

Great point! Something I do naturally but really helpful to point out. Thanks for your comment!

Nice,….but if you talk to 5 different people you’ll get 5 different how-to answers. Curious if you do any heelside tacks and stay toeside when you come out, or even carry through with an immediate jibe, as opposed to an immediate switch foot (ala windsurf)? How do you handle your behind-the-back-handle-pass heel side tacks where you’re forced to release the back 😂hand early in the tack and do several extra grab-release combinations off the front handle while you’re coming around? What about leash handle (Walk-the-dog) tacks where you also need to release early (front hand to leash and back released almost at the same time)?
I occasionally do a light leading edge wing push and it never feels like a bandaide at all, even in really choppy overpowered conditions. Also that early release gets me in the same mode of early release for behind-the-backs, both toeside and heelside, Walk-the-dag tacks and tack-360 combinations. A lot of times I’ll jibe or Heinie jibe and just continue to carve around into an immediate tack (essentially a 360) with one hand on the boom, so no late release of the back hand because it’s been released from the start of the jibe. Lots of different ways to achieve the same goal. Cheers!

Agreed that everyone has a slightly different experience which leads to very different techniques. Appreciate the feedback and sounds like you have unlocked a lot more variations! My background is racing foiling catamarans. Moved into wing foiling during Covid and haven’t turned back since! Would probably help for me to clarify that a lot of my learning process is around how to get my gear through a manoeuvre as efficiently as I can, especially in a racing context. Going from this, it makes sense that the wing is only released for a short amount of time to minimise drag and that I like the quick foot switch because it gets you back in a powered up position as fast as possible. Thanks for the comment and let’s keep the conversation going!

hi.. thanks for video.. i have been using hard handles and kind of holding the front handle like a javalin, and gradually working it across and overhead or at least seems like im doing it kind of slow.. it appears that you really hold it in more of a powered sailing position for longer as you carve up wind and then quickly throw it over and grab the other side of the wind with wing. Completely different, mine more of a glide on foil, yours more powered for longer? Having a cup of coffee and if the wind is still blowing this morning in Ketchikan, Alaska, i will get out and practice what you are doing.. i have noticed i seem to be more successful if it is windier.

Thanks for the comment! I think I can picture what you are saying and exactly why I wanted to make this video, great to start a dialogue around different options. Sounds like you probably take a wider arc through the tack and potentially use a bit more of the glide from your foil. I’ll have a play too!

Great help for me thanks. Is it the same principle for a toeside tack? Rolling the wing and looking for the back Handle etc?

You can definitely bring those details across to your toeside tack! I’ll try to put another video together for toeside to go into a bit more detail. Because you exit the toeside tack in a powerful position you can spend less effort on rolling the wing and more on pumping with your feet and wing out of the tack

@@LachieWhite Awesome looking forward to it. I find heelside tacks easier than toeside, which I think is the other way around for most people. I think it's because I can't ride as fast (switch-stance) into the toeside tack.

@@seagullnz I definitely had that too for a while but mine was turning left haha. I could turn left really consistently but turning right was a 50/50 chance of crashing haha
