    Hi Jill, you are the Best Motivator that I watch until now. You have improved me inspiration about what I call English Sound System: intonation, pitch, rhythm, flow and so on. My personal Idea is that when we speak, we play a musical instrument! Foreign people should speak English by ear first of all and then eventually studing grammar. Thank you so match for this interesting youtube channel.

    • @JillDiamond
      @JillDiamond  Рік тому

      I'm so glad you are here and that you like it Pasquale. It is a great school of thought to learn music first by ear and then get into the technical stuff. And the same with English. I think it gives us more freedom, right?

      +Collin Willoughs That makes sense Collin. If I may add a point about integrating learning into new behaviors...it is essential that practice is different from real time conversation. During your practice time, you exaggerate so that a realistic version of emphasis shows up in your speech. I agree 100% that people would wonder about you if you spoke in an inappropriately exaggerated way. Hope this helps and thank you for your observation which is very important.

      Accent Ace English is my native language. I watched this video to find a video explanation of the differences between "Inflection" and "Intonation". But yeah- the "gliding" definitely sounded like she'd was emphasizing "ten" as if I wasn't paying attention of repeating a question. It makes her sound annoyed.

    I'm tremendously surprised with teacher performance. I never saw anybody teach like this teacher. She is an artist I've seen that video maybe 20 times and realized that the presence of a student make the experience even more valuable.

  • @1secondsense

    Well done, what most of the negative commenters do not realise is that the exageration will go away after practice, but teaching the exageration helps the learner remember to make the pitch shift. From another native speaker and teacher thank you!

    Have a real conversation to apply what you’ve learned about intonation is very useful. First, you recognize and tell the difference between different intonations; then, you can use the right intonation when reading; finally, you can have a natural conversation. It’s really challenging!

    I really enjoy the way that you teach your student. There are many English learning videos. But most of them are just finished by teacher alone. Through the communication between you and your student, I can digest the knowledge more naturally. Thx a lot and hope for more videos.

    I liked this video so much as it was clear and energetic! There aren't many real examples in terms of the correction of intonation on youtube, The rest of the videos only introduce the basic patterns, which aren't enough from an ESL student's perspective. And it's just too hard to read a text book without being demonstrated in front of real speech. Nice job! Please keep us posted!
