I loved this movie. I even put it on pause to admire the artwork. Nearly every scene contains a light/dark contrast! And the colours. I saw that young tim was here too, so thankyou too.
This movie is fantastic. The story is cute, animation is incredible, the characters are unique, but colours are brilliant, and the layouts are breathtaking. It's nice to see a brand new take on the medium, and one so beautifully done.
i watched this when i was little and it was such a great movie, i spent years trying to find it and when i did i was so happy! i definitely recommend that you watch this
So many people including many self proclaimed animators I've met don't know of this movies' existence and it baffles me. It's one of the most beautiful looking 2D animated films made in the past 10 years.
I am dying to see this film! It is so wonderful to see that other film companies are keeping the magic of 2D animation alive. This looks absolutely beautiful, and it sort of reminds me of a William Joyce style of artwork.
I watched it last night on Amazon Prime for free (minus the prime account) was Brilliant!! there is another also, really twistedly good , called "Patema Inverted" give it a look, ~cheers
This looks interesting. We need more animation studios other than disney releasing films. Not saying disney animated films are bad, but give someone else a try in the genre too.
Thank you. Especially the films that comes from Japan, Ireland, Brazil, France, and any other country anyone likes to list. For example, I actually want to watch the new Japanese movie that just came out, The Beast and The Boy, but it is selective theaters. Than there are films such as Secret of Kells, where it is only straight to DVD. I really do wish Disney/Pixar, along with Dream-works, would back off a bit (THEY MAKE TOO MUCH MONEY).
I agree, I saw the Triplet film, and the Illusionist. Telling a story with little dialogue is the best way to show than tell. There are films that are good that use dialouge to carry the film pretty well (outside of the USA) such as Ernest & Celestian and Secret of Kells (Which is not a french animated film).
It blows my mind that this would never be released in the U.S. anywhere. I've never even heard mention of it before until I discovered Headless Productions online. This looks like it needs more recognition, even if it isn't a masterpiece or something.
Old animated movies really had it all, amazing soundtracks, good stories and they would dare make things a little dark. Shame they just aren't that profitable
Why does everyone who comments on any non-pixar film have to compare it to pixar and bash the studio?? I just scrolled through the entire comments section and NO ONE is talking about pixar. No one is saying it defines animation. Pixar has only been around for 20 or so years anyway.
i cant wait to see this movie, yeah i know its been 9 years since its been released, but i found the movie at a ARC donation store... found nocturna for $2.99!! hasn't even been open! and at a very stealing price!!!
@Xerosch Oh really? That's good to know! I won't have a problem understanding th English audio track, but the internet said there was only the Spanish or French version with Spanish and French subtitles, nothing else. But I think I'll oder the DVD then. Thank you very much, that helped a lot! =)
@whiteliton I ordered the spanish DVD version and can assure you that it features english, spanish and french audio. No subtitles, though but you can understand the voices really well.
Really cute story,so after watching this I finally have a good excuse for believing in stars and guardian angels, and since I have a cat,I believe he is one of them :D
@CynicofDoom Well, getting the movie is easier than you think ;) I just checked the german and the UK Amazon-website and both offer the DVD. You'll have to pay with a credit card and it will cost you 20 to 30 Euros, but on the other hand there's only an RC2 version of the DVD, so you'll be fine!
@Xerosch where did you buy the DVD? I'm from Denmark, and the network company who ran this movie, doesn't have the ressources to lead me onto a copy of the DVD. In addition to this quest; I need to find the right type of DVD, european type and whatnot! I'd be happy if I can get the english version; with or without subtitles - I don't care!
@MrEromenos I found the trailer just now and I can't seem to find much info on the DVD. Is there and English version at all? If there is, could you please give me a tip where I can get it? I'm from Germany, and I could get the French or Spanish version, but I don't speak either of them and it doesn't seem to have subtitles. Help would be much appreciated!
How in heavens name can I get the DVD for this legally in Canada? I really want to support this amazing movie. And I'd rather watch it legally than download it illegally. Also, the biggest dilemma is whether I can get an english copy that is compatible with DVD players here in Canada. Anyone know of how to help?
Festival of Gkids Films runs through Jan. 2 at the IFC Center, 323 Avenue of the Americas, at Third Street, Greenwich Village; 212-924-7771, ifccenter.com.
Just got this movie. It was beautiful and I enjoyed the animation but was so disappointed in the story and writing. There was so much forced whimsy, the dialogue wasn't convincing, the sentimental bits didn't feel sincere, and The Cat Herder and Moka's motivation make no sense to me. I think everyone's being too generous with this movie because it's animated. I'd love to support and see more 2d animated movies, but I also wan't something more substantial than just pretty pictures.
do you see this hayio miyazaki?that's how good animated movies are suppossed to look like, not like your turds that are all about visuals over substance. seriously if miyazaki was a video game designer his games would be all about graphics over gameplay.
I loved this movie. I even put it on pause to admire the artwork.

This film needs to be recognized worldwide, it's like Spirited Away but about what happens at night! :D
It's stunning and beautiful!
I'm SO glad I got the chance to see this before it got taken off UA-cam, lol. It was a great movie!
This animation style is so amazing!!!!!!

My animation teacher has this film in English.
He let us all take a copy. :D It's so beautiful to look at.
This looks interesting. We need more animation studios other than disney releasing films. Not saying disney animated films are bad, but give someone else a try in the genre too.
+Marcella D I agree. Disney and Pixar have far too much of a hold over the feature animation industry.
Marcella D exactly, Sylvain Chomet's work is amazing too. Animation needs to expand much more.

@CynicofDoom Well, getting the movie is easier than you think ;)

This looks actually like it might be good!
i so wish this could come out in the US.... :(
Mine is English dubbed. I got it in Malaysia, it has English, Chinese and Malay subtitles and the distributor is Innoform Media.
@shanahankai94 I bought the dvd yesterday and it has an english audio track on it so yes. I like the english voices best.
outside spain? i got no idea... ebay? I saw the dvd the other day in a store, which means it´s definitely out, but I don´t know about other countries.
That big guy looks like a mutated version of Tack the cobbler.
I bought the dvd at a video store. You can try amazon or something maybe?
@Xerosch where did you buy the DVD? I'm from Denmark, and the network company who ran this movie, doesn't have the ressources to lead me onto a copy of the DVD. In addition to this quest; I need to find the right type of DVD, european type and whatnot!
