Not necessarily. The decade of the 80s had the social and political economy of AIDS , Reaganomics , and Crack. Yes the music was sort of light hearted and upbeat , but nevertheless you had violence and so forth. No different than any other decade.
I'm almost 52 and I haven't heard this for over 30 years but I still managed to rap along word for word to the first half . I think I had this on a Hip Hop compilation at the time. Great times and positive energy for me as a teen ager 💗
Maaaaaannn these were the best moments of a lifetime. The 80's hiphop era was so D.O.P.E!!! The female that was dancing.....no words just take me back.
Kid and Play were a breath of fresh air. In the late 80s hip hop started going gangster, but they epitomised proper old school hip hop: funky, fun and great story telling. Plus they could dance, and I copied every single one of their moves!
Man I wish I was born in the NYC tri-state area so I could've seen performances like these on a regular basis coming up. Kid N Play, SupaLova Cee and Casanova Rudd, and the JVC Force all had great sets on this show... 🔥🔥🔥
I remember that a lot of people still didn't have cable ( Mtv) in the 80's, so EVERY UHF channel had their own music video program in glorious mono sound!!!
Wow!!! I really miss those days. I remember this video and dance moves like yesterday. We were so FRESH back then. I was a Junior in HS - FB and BB player - we use to have dance contests before most games to get HYPED!
Am from london England was here in 1978 thru Canada i had a ball all over New york went back to canada then london leaving with my family to Brooklyn in 1979 only been back to london twice living in Brownsville meeting Mike Tyson Slap Boxing him a few times we were part of some Diffrent gangs i was supposed to be Rapping but 1 of my partners had to move down south so i decided to just quit tried in the middle 80s as a solo i did hear from my old buddy in 1999 after watching these crazy brothers and how they met i said to myself God works always has a way to put people together everything has a reason
Marauder n the Fury and Daddy Seville's music was the end of the early era of hip hop in terms of lyrics, delivery and production ...Kid n Play was the beginning of the next phase of hip hop ..
That IS an interesting observation, especially since Paul C was in both these phases. I can see how rap was getting more sample-heavy when Kid ‘n Play came out-not just taking two seconds at a time and sprinkling it over an 808 beat, but taking big chunks and loops-so production was definitely changing.
That last night break beat was around for a long time before this, This was the first time I heard someone master this beat rhyming to it... straight classic
Memories to the damn max!!! In 85 I was 10 and in 89 I remember first hearing about these two. I always remembered both of their names where Christopher.
Every so often, I'd look for but couldn't find video of Goldies Hot Tracks (Friday nights/Saturday?!? -right?)... until just now, under kid n play... She wore gold for every show
Old cassettes! Even now when I end a song (whilst rapping old tunes in the shower), I flow right into the next song on the tape -even the 'speaking' part that red alert would throw in btwn songs. (this is Red Alert and I'm here with my man.... DJ Chuck Chill out.... )
All that energy put into a performance on such a low budget tv show...that’s swagger...sheer class...Hip Hop!
I’m 48 and from the Boogie Down so this was my era, oh Gosh I turned 15 when this came out. Good Times.
Me too😀
I'm from BK and was 10. It's dope that we came from that era and are still here.
@@rcole718 indeed, I grew up in Andrew Jackson Projects, 156th and Courtlandt Ave so you know we are lucky son.
1988 I'm 11 doing the dances.
Best
Kid had the perfect 80s rap voice.
Q a a
The 80's were the best decade. It was clean fun & great music.
I'm pretty sure heaven is the 80's and 90's on a loop.
Not necessarily. The decade of the 80s had the social and political economy of AIDS , Reaganomics , and Crack. Yes the music was sort of light hearted and upbeat , but nevertheless you had violence and so forth. No different than any other decade.
Not really Kid n play and fresh prince were the only positive rappers. Ice t and N.W.A was at the top and They always cursed
Indeed
The 90's for me
Aww... Kid n' Play. Their chemistry is something. Brothers forever.

Saw Kid n Play strip down to g-strings during their set on the Straight outta Compton tour. June 1989.

The 80s were the best years. Everyone had money. I mean everyone. I'm from 106 Madison Ave. Believe me we were getting it when this was out. Owwwwww.
The best decade.
Definitely remember this!

I miss old school hip hop
I think I actually remember this show (Channel 31?), not to be confused with New York Hot Tracks which was on Channel 7.
Love seeing this since I never got to see this then. Kid N Play were great , had their tapes and watched all their movies on repeat. So fun
I moved from Long Island to Hayward Ca back in 1988. Yo MTV Raps in the spring came out. These guys exploded and the kids in the Bay Area loved it
Totally forgot about this tune.. When the album this tune's on 1st came out I had it on repeat 24/7... Memories
Straight legendary!!!!!!
No chains and bullshit. Just pure talent.
Every so often, I'd look for but couldn't find video of Goldies Hot Tracks (Friday nights/Saturday?!? -right?)... until just now, under kid n play...

Memories of this song of DJ Red Alert and Mister Magic in 1987-1988 .. NYC memories!
Exactly ! And Red would blend this into Raps Nu Generation after. I have all this stuff taped on old cassettes deep in the crates
