Do we really have to type the javac filename. Java and java filename
Command everytime we run in vs code isn't there any way we could use the run button to run it. I am unable to get the run button to start working. Pls help.

No. Install coderunner if not already installed from Extensions. Then go to settings and search for Run Coderunner in Terminal and tick it. Go back to your program and click on the play button.

File Extension issue. You did not saved your file properly. The extension should be .java
