Love this and it's on me wants list well it's on one o' the tthousands of scraps o' paper i seem to have amassed over the 30 odd years of collecting.........................Little scraps ov paper oh and the odd record n all
This was about two years before Mac Rebbenack became "Dr. John." It's been said that Sonny Bono, who produced "Gris Gris" gave him that name to find his inner "voodoo." Originally it was Dr. John Creaux, then just Dr. John.
Witheredgoogie I first heard this record played by DJ Des Parker almost 20 years ago. The late great DJ Joe Dutton also used to spin it often. It went on to become a massive dancefloor favourite at RnB clubs like No More Doggin Club in Leicestershire and many more similar clubs thought the UK and Europe.
Well on the northern soul scene, theres a scene within a scene.called the rare soul scene, and I've been privileged to have been part of it attending and even djing at some events.and about 4 to 5 years ago this record was massive at certain venues.so it may have missed the Wigan casino era, but to the lovers of rare soul and r'n'b vinyl, this tune knows how to fill a dance floor! It just keeps going round in your head ages after the record has stopped! You can listen to loads of records after, but this beauty keeps coming back!👍🛵
@@TheMonobaby Thanks for the👍 ❤️ for my earlier comment on zu zu man ,you say you 1st heard this played by DJ Des Parker. I know Des well, and what a great guy he is! As well as dj and record dealer .i'd often see him at a rare soul night or all nighter in the corner of the room where the record dealers were.soon as he sor me his face would light up and my wallet would run out the room! Lol, he would shout across, Hay Steve, have I got some tunes for you! lol, he was never wrong! I didn't realise he must have been one of the 1st djs to play this tune? 1st time i heard it was at bidds all nighter in stoke..played by a guy called mace, another great bloke,he ran bidds, sadly no longer a rare soul venue, but the tunes will always be played somewhere.👍🛵
@@stevethmod5387 it must be nearly 20 years since Des played at my soul night called "No More Doggin" in Leicestershire. And yes Mace is a great bloke too and top DJ.
@@TheMonobaby I sure wish I had attended your club in Leicestershire. And glad to hear you know mace as well as Des.i'm wondering if our paths ever crossed at a rare soul All nighter or soul night at some point? Well I have the upmost respect and admiration for people like your self and des and mace and so many others that help to make the rare soul scene what it is today! Hopefully now we're coming out of lockdown things can get back to where thay were a few years ago! 👍🛵
What an ass kicker! I`d like to play this at a packed French Quarter Club in New Orleans on a hot Friday Night at 2 AM & just see what happens! There would be a riot!!

Hi thanks for the comment. Did you see the just ended on Ebay $ 565
This is an almost straight copy of "Watts 103rd st Rhythm Band" Brown Sugar on WB records.
It would be .... except Brown Sugar didn't get released until 2 years after this!!!!! i.e. 1966 v 1968 ...and this is much faster
Thanks for the comment. :-)
Yep, that was me
Just got a copy of this again
does anyone know whether this is expensive-if it is its out the window as am only 12, sort of the same as a one in my northern soul collection- brown sugar by the watts 103rd street rhythm band? but please let me know the price of this KTF
that brown sugar is well worth playing out again in my opinion, in my box on WB import
Am after a copy if anyone wants to sell ...
