  • Renowned guru-musician-story-teller extraordinaire, Bhagavan Das, sits down with Mitchell in A Better World Studio of grass-roots TV in NYC, and tells him of his beatific, Divine encounter with Kali as he was meditating on impermanance at the funeral pyres. Just hold on!
This was the third of three interviews over the a few years in the mid-1990's.
The first was on Nada Yoga, the Sounds of the Chakras. Bhagavan Das and then girlfriend walk us through by intoning the sounds of each--a beautiful experience.
The second, right here, was on Bhagavan Das' taking Harvard psychologist Dr. Richard Alpert on the spiritual adventure of his lifetime---through Nepal, India, pyschedelics, right on up to introducing him to the man who became Alpert's guru and gave him the name he became world-known by, Baba Ram Das, Neem Karoli Baba. It's a story woven by master story-teller Bhagavan Das in a way you don't want to miss.
The third interview of this series, on BD's experience of a vision of Kali Ma at the Funeral Pyres. Hold on to your seat!

Ram Das and his friends set up SEVA, which has been providing free and low cost cataract surgeries in India and Nepal. They've been doing this for decades. So, there is a path of combining inner spirituality and community service.

Bhagvan Das touches the nerve of spiritual practice by focusing on the heart about 40 minutes into the video.

"Extreme longing, devotion" and determination to find someone which nourushed their souls was the way the doors opened to Maharajji. May all beings benefit from the deeper connection to Maharajji, Hanuman, Ram and Siddhi Maa. AUM AUM AUM.

I participated in a kundalini cleansing workshop with Bhagwan Das in 2011 at a home in Encinitas Calif.
Each Chakra received a 1 hour chant-with Bhagwan das as the pointman. When we got to the 3rd chakra I started to feel an intense heat building up in my shoulders. It got so uncomfortable I had to leave the workshop least I burst into flames. Those were my thoughts.

The question is so often asked what is the awakened/ enlightened perspective/ response to the horror and ills of the world. The expectation is that some efforts or special scheme would blossom to remedy these gross difficulties. The truth is nobody can or will ever do anything to dissolve this awful situation. This awful situation is what humans are born into. Liberated beings see no evil, because it’s all a delusional dream to them. That’s how they escape it, by re-asserting their own disbelief.
We especially as westerners project the ideal of a savior onto the enlightened ones. Also we like to take on the mantle of the ones who know best how the world should be managed. That whole approach is silly or mistaken from the enlightened view. It’s none of our business really.

I appreciate what you wrote. "Spiritual activism" sounds a lot like attachment and ego. There isn't something to do any greater than what God is already doing. I feel okay commenting on this, because it is a lesson I also need to learn and constantly attempt to integrate. If my suffering is a pathway to liberation, I would hate someone to come along and righteously free me from it. This can be applied to the collective as well, I believe. I would never attempt to explain or argue this viewpoint with someone who disagrees. It's not something you can be convinced to believe in. I think we get here from personal experiences that stoke faith.

Fun fact, if sound could travel through empty space like air, you would be able to hear it about as loud as being next to a running Harley Davidson. I don't know about staring at it for 10 hours though. Man. Probably did some damage.

Sorry you feel that way. It's set up to be, not a monologue but a dialogue. The name is Mitchell. Out of the 20,000 people who have watched this interview, you are the only one who had such a comment, but so be it. If you actually measure the time BD was speaking and me, the ratio was about 90-10.....get out your time clock!
