Cutting directions... Climb Milling & Conventional. With Climb milling, make sure there isn't any backlash in the axis or direction of cut... lol

I freaking knew something like this would work! adding in a coolant mister should be fairly easy for you actually. They are under 20 on ebay/amazon. Also, there are heaps of local auction sites around like the premier machinery auction in blaine, where you can find all sorts of tooling, vises, etc....What I always tell my kids is, Can't never could til he tried!

The lathe is the machine every other came from.

I really dig the enthusiasm! I subbed based on that alone haha 😄 nice work man, I also had that same reaction being able to "unlock" a new level of productivity on my 12" mini lathe once ordering a simple milling attachment (Amazon deal) lol happy building 👍😁

I'd stay away from climb milling with that particular setup. If you start getting chatter or broken bits that's why. With your mechanical thinking and ability to work your way through any problem I'm actually surprised you're not a machinist! Love your content man, can't wait to see what you cook up next!

The jaws for your vice take measurements of them and make your some aluminum jaws copper plastic steel knurled and not that way you have soft jaws to not mar up your work or steel to bite which will leave marks that you could machine off later maybe but the aluminum copper and plastic are your soft jaws to hold parts but not leave marks at all and you could machine dishes in them to hold cylinder tops like that aluminum disk so you can clamp it down tight with lots of surface area instead of square jaws with minimal contact on your round part I hope that makes sense lol 😂

What your talking about with the direction is climb milling or conventional milling. What your doing is conventional milling, climb cutting is more aggressive and will try and walk the work out of the vice.

Hello there john this video from five hours ago watched most of your videos being a subscriber for a short while have a old vintage sears d44 chainsaw that I had tricked out with big old KTM 500 expansion chamber on it took it places got into some trouble issues still a great running saw was a birthday gift from my mom when before she passed had the carburetor all rebuilt these older saws like that were piston ported so I make sure Iam in a safe location when starting it ever want to see a photo of glad to send you one shawn.

Milling vises have been around since the 70’s and used to be sold by the lathe manufacturers. They figured out they could sell you a mill in addition to the lathe, so they stopped making them.

Yea that's great bro, I know you joke but I get the whole self taught thing and the excitement that comes with getting the ability to do something like you are now. I'm thinking about buying a mini lathe myself cause I feel I could do stuff kinda how your thinking you can do it. It's great you figured this out, definitely a lil jelly about it. Good job brother.

The axis’ are X, Y, and Z. Towards the chuck is Z, X is the cross slide and Y is up and down with the compound rest.

Climb milling leaves a better finish, but you need a super rigid setup to not get chatter, conventional milling is the way to go in your setup.

Anyway I can send a saw to you and you can rebuild, port and tune it? I’ll pay shipping both ways.

Add a set of DRO’s to your lathe, it will get you even more accuracy.

If you get a short set of parallels, it will keep the piece off the seat of the vise where you can drill or mill through anywhere without getting into the vise itself.

John, I really enjoy your content, experience, your expertise, and knowledge. You're a really talented, intelligent dude, and you have a lot of followers that feel the same.
You're right there are a lot of small brained "haters" out there.
I know you're a grown man that clearly can make his own choices and decisions and I respect you a lot. With that said stop giving those "hater" assholes attention. They suck. Leave them in the rear view mirror. 👍🤣
Have a Great rest of your day dude!

Cutting the same direction that your cutter is spinning is referred to as climb cutting.
