Pay attention to the Kinetic chain: hip fires first, initiates the backswing and load up forearm by super nation, then shoulder move forward, upper arm internal rotation, release the energy by pronating the forearm.
Great video, especially explaining the hand position at contact and the pronation. Are you still driving the racket forward through contact while turning your hand over/pronating (windshield wiper movement)? Is there a way to isolate and develop the wiper movement with the SW grip? To develop racket head speed using the body properly. Look forward to more FH videos, tips and tricks to getting more rpms and ball speed, the "heavy ball".
Tommy, thanks for the video (and the Eastern grip video!)! Do you have any tips for wrist consistency using Semi-Western? I find that I have difficulty controlling the angle of the racquet at contact (and, thus, the depth of my shots). I also wonder whether Eastern would be easier to control somehow? Thanks!
Good video. Thoroughly enjoyed it however I have one question after the contact do you extend in the direction of target as some coaches suggest or you immediately come round the body?
Nice if a bit "hitchy swing motion. Your footwork during the swing is also a bit "open" to me - meaning indeterminate; it could be clearer, a semi-open stance and you have the weight in the front foot at the time of the contact? I donno if it is the best way to go for those balls, I use eastern (extreme or not) grip so what do I know about the intricacies of the western side of the grip world... :D - But why not back foot pivot on those shots?
Jack Quinn what are you asking? If you’re talking about stances, they can be hit from any. But generally open if the ball is high or if you don’t have time. Closed if you have time to do so. Open will the most common at the baseline.
@@tommybreakpoint1044 Yeah, but the exact footwork used in the swinging action could be more defined and refined (and varied). Now it seems you are hitting all or most of those balls weight on your front foot during the contact as if from the closed stance´pivoting there as if. It makes your swing look a bit disconnected, stiff or "hitchy"..
@@jackquinnes Since when "open" = intermediate? Lol. All of your observations were wrong and you talked a bunch of gibberish which made absolutely 0 sense. Show us a video of you doing it then 😂 All of his shots started from semi open stance. He's loading off his right leg and shifted his body weight forward onto his leg as he rotated to contact.
These tips have really helped my consistency, getting more spin on the ball and my tennis buddies have said my weight of shot is a lot heavier! I understand you have Injury at the moment so hope your recovery is going well my guy. I'm still struggling with higher put away balls so I find I'm having to leave them drop (giving my opponent time to recover) would love to know your swing thoughts on this topic?
Really great video. Your swing is pristine. Future recommendation : a video on ready stance and grip changes with receiving serve.
Thanks Rahul!
Hey Tommy! Hope all is well! Great vids and tips! Hopefully we'll see you make a return to YT this year!
Excellent recommendation about the hand-racquet not at your side but feel it in front of your shoulders/chest

Its a really good fh but you dont draw the racquet with your elbow like most atp pros. Your thoughts on that?
Looks great, I have a big problem opening the racquet face on contact, any tips for fixing that?
Stick to ping pong

Praveen Bhide I try to extend but that isn’t always possible. So it’ll depend on what ball you get
