Wilson 2020 ProStaff 97 or the RF97? | Racquet Review
follow Instagram @tom_o_thy
Hey guys, i'm testing out the new 2020 wilson prostaff 97 the 315 gram model. I'm comparing it to the RF97 the heavier version at 340 grams. My choice would be the 315 gram 97. I'd put a leather grip which would add about 8 grams to the handle as well as 2 grams of lead tape under the bumper guard. it has a very fast swing weight so I wouldn't be scared of the 11.1 oz weight spec.

How to Hit a forehand with an Eastern grip. Tennis Tips

The "old school" eastern forehand is appearing once again on tour! It is a easy forehand to start with and it develops nicely into more modern forehand variations like Tsitsipas and federer. It also minimizes the risk for a new player to develop an extreme western forehand which can cause problems down the road. Here are some tips to get you started in the right direction. I hope this helps!

    These tips have really helped my consistency, getting more spin on the ball and my tennis buddies have said my weight of shot is a lot heavier! I understand you have Injury at the moment so hope your recovery is going well my guy. I'm still struggling with higher put away balls so I find I'm having to leave them drop (giving my opponent time to recover) would love to know your swing thoughts on this topic?

    You mean continental grip for slice but Eastern backhand grip for topspin. To hit a topspin backhand with a Continental grip is a sure way to get tennis elbow.

    The Budge and Trabert variations on the Eastern backhand grip allow for a bent elbow and less youth and power. If you're over 40 don't even think about learning the one handed topspin ATP backhand.

    This is the way EVERY rec player should hit their forehand. A modest roll. Forget heavy topspin. Your doubles partner will thankyou for keeping the ball in play. You wanna go heavy topspin? Then you're gonna have to hire your lawncare cuz you'll be busy doing groundstroke drills.

      You can’t take your right hand and grip at 12 o’clock and your left hand gripes the at 9 o’clock(which is the eastern grip for the left hand step into shot with straight arms and finish like your paddling so down lower on back swing and up and finish over your right shoulder

    That was a great review for people who actually play tennis. You mentioned that the rf would be fine for ppl who have slower swings. I play with simple strokes like Jimmy Connors. I am 3.5 with 30 years of playing. Would you recommend the rf for my game? Thank you.

    • @tommybreakpoint1044

      Imo, I would try the 97 first. 300-315 gram racquets

    • @Masondurlach
      @Masondurlach 2 роки тому

      The RF is very heavy but if you can handle it it is a great racket with lots of power and still good control, I am myself a user of the PS97, the one that is 11.7 ounces strung and it is PERFECT for me .

    • @alanmarr8529
      @alanmarr8529 2 роки тому

      I watched Tommy's review again. I am one of those ppl who fall into the category of having a slower but smooth swing. In all honesty, I love the 2017 version of the rf racquet which I just bought for 200 can. It is the best racquet that I have played with in my entire 30 years of on again off again recreational tennis which includes the steffi graf ps. I normally hit flatter balls and use granny sticks to take advantage of the equipment and deploy MEP strategies during match play but with the rf model, it brought out all my top spin potential which I had inconsistencies with using other racquets of various thicknesses. I really felt like fed especially on the single handed bh side which this review clearly shows unlike other reviwes which have 2hbh reviewers. I would like to add that I am a physically weaker than average player so the heft of the racquet was a advantage and allowed me to plough through big balls from taller and stronger opponents which my vcore couldn't. I could hold my own while being pinned in the bh corner while my opp ran around his fh, and go from def to off. I did feel sore from using it but i got used to it. My 2017 model weighs about 370 g with old xone strings. Amazing ball pocketing too...

    Nice video! Quick question, since you've had all the generations of these...what's the main differences between the pro staff 97 v12 and v13? And the RF version too. I'd appreciate your insight as I'm about to purchase one

    • @tommybreakpoint1044
      @tommybreakpoint1044 3 роки тому

      For the 97, the v13 keeps the ball in a lot better for me. Denser string layup seems to have helped. V12 feels softer which I wasn’t a big fan of as I prefer the older ones. If you looking for an alternative to v13, I’d go with the pre countervail versions. V10?
