  • Understanding when to Transfer the trauma patient and evaluating the capabilities of your Facility is key to treatment and successful outcomes. As you are preparing for the ATLS 10th Edition protocol and certification exam, a solid knowledge of the Transfer Protocol and factors involved in decision making are extremely helpful in determining the correct answer to the ATLS test questions.
    Transfer to Definitive Care is often necessary option. What Transfer Agreements, Protocol, and Form does your Facility have in place? Use SBAR to aid in making that decision keeping in mind condition of the trauma patient, method - Air or Ground - and of course the weather.
    Many doctors, nurses, PA's, residents, and EMT's that cover the ER (emergency room) in many hospitals are required to learn the ATLS protocol concerning Transfer to Definitive Care and pass the ATLS certification exam.
