  • I just changed the oil on my wife's 2014 BMW X1 2.8 xDrive E84 and made a DIY video of it. At the end I also show you how to reset the service indicator.
    Here is the oil I used:

    Perfect video. I just finished oil change on my bmw x1. Everything went smooth. Only thing to note is drain plug will open with 17mm socket. I didn't have that. So had to run and get that in the middle of oil change. Secondly, after poring 5qts oil, the console doesn't show the oil level till max but half of that. I guess It will take some time before oil heats up and corrects itself.

    So sorry, your vid is excellent! Oddly there is a variant for the X1 2015 that has a plastic T10 Torx bit drain plug. Saw it on another UA-cam. Your did not have this. Will be assisting coaching a young man with his first oil change. Instructing him to get under the car and lower the access to see which drain plug the car has... Your other vid helped with wheel speed sensor issue on F22 and is brilliant. Many thanks!!

    Nice vid I had a different drain plug, has a hex head and plastic. I have a good leak and if anyone else has dealt with this please enlighten me. User a brand new drain plug exact match compared when replaced. My thought, go back to old fashion metal and crusher drain plug.

    Hey Nice tutorial
    I probably would do oil/filter change out somewhere between 3000-5000 miles.
    Have you thought about using a FOMOTO plug
    You would never have to deal with the bolt and washer during oil changes

    Do you have a reference for the amount of oil the 2014 x1 xdrive28i takes? You said 6.1 qts. I don't see it listed in the owners manual? I am used to Infiniti where this information is not hard to find lol.

    You're using mobile 1 full synthetic instead of the mobile 1 euro spec synthetic? I use liqui molly special tec for any German car I own, I'd also recommend liqui Molly mos2 additive every oil change

    • @HelpMeDIY
      @HelpMeDIY  Рік тому +3

      Yes. Everyone has an opinion on oil. Mine is they all work as long as you change it regularly. For example, we sold that car before changing it again so it definitely didn’t matter 😆
