Brilliant analysis of that boiler fault! Another great video, thanks. You should have 100k subscribers, given the excellent content and presentation of your videos!
Do you remember the even older Vaillants with just a few rocker switches behind the front cover? My parents had one installed at their office in 1987 and it lasted for about 15 or 20 years. There used to be a YT video somewhere, fixing the world's oldest combi boiler or something along those lines. At home my parents had a 1977 Junkers-Bosch combi until 2012. Apart from needing a new expansion vessel (ended up fitting a cheap external one instead) in 2008 or so it still worked fine but no longer met emissions standards. That's right, they required people to replace working boilers just because of new emissions regs. That boiler still had a pilot light that you had to light with matches! Occasionally a particularly strong gust of wind down the chimney would blow the pilot out. Two knobs (hot water temperature and flow temperature) and three rocker switches (on/off, heating on/off and heating half/full power if I remember correctly), and a round combi gauge, flow temperature and pressure.
Mate I loved this video, I was literally following you step for step on the Vaillant and when I saw the burner on I cheered out loud 😂 great vid bro 👊🏾🔥
Great video. All those circuit boards on that boiler makes it look like space age, compared to mine! My boiler, from the same company, before VALLIANT bought them out, GLOWORM fuel saver Mk2, fitted 1989. Love your work young man. Cheers.
Dan, if you ever see those grohe buttons, 99% is the Air bellows need changing. You just pop the front cover off and pull out the bellows. You don't need to get to the back 🤓 easy . In and out in 5 minutes. I always keep two in the van. They always go.
Touché pal for not sharing info regarding gas procedures nice work 👍🏼 with the boiler brought back memories proper old world valiant 😂. Ps hope that's the only rim you've split.....keep the great content coming 👍🏼
Haha oh yes mate it definitely is the only one 😂😂 and yeh I do believe sometimes you can show a little too much, but then if I don’t show it. Someone else will so it’s a difficult one!
I'm pretty certain the voltage to the valve is rectified ac. other than s.i.t solenoids , the majority are "VRAC" inc honeywell. Probably a failed relay limited to 100,000 operations . .
Interesting repairs. Keep the button and have a go stripping it down. Make a fun little bonus clip. Can you get that crack repaired or are you looking for a new wheel? 😢
That Vailiants not that old........ I see a 242 circa 1986/7 ish IIRC, every year for service, still going strong. I don't know who will "give up" first, the boiler or the elderly owner! Oldest appliance I service is a AGA cooker from 1950, Its on its 3rd burner/controls, as far as I know the rest of it is OG !
@@Heatking Mid 90's perhaps , I changed a vessel in one a couple of years ago but don't see them that often anymore. I still have a few old Baxi 552 bbu's (various fire fronts) and freestanding Ideal Mexico's , all from the 80's Proper good kit! The original Mexico's are the most reliable boiler ever made IMHO and if you change the thermocouple every couple of services: hardly ever breakdown, even these days when they are getting on for 40 yrs old .
@@Heatking strip it. If you still have the old one try it on that. Just be careful some have a small spring. There fun to find when they fly 😂. Also on the grohe cisterns with them buttons. 9/10 times its the small clear bellow not the button
Would you ever consider ebay for sourcing PCBs? I've had great success with them from there for refurb PCBs. Sometimes £100s of savings compared to sourcing locally. Edit: I think that delivery time and warranty is the issue, getting the boiler back up and giving heat etc. with reliable returns. Ebay sellers are usually 24hr delivery though and the savings are massive.

No better feeling than when the part fits and the boiler fires
You’re right mate, but there’s also no worse feeling when it doesn’t 😂😂😂
@Heatking like me today trying to change a left manifold on a ultracom 30cxi. Possibly the single worst boiler I've ever worked on. Shocking design 😂
