The cover story was that the structure was yet another raydome for the Strategic Defense Radar Network, constructed in the northern wilderness. In actuality, it enclosed our interstellar communications link, the Monolith, provided by The Federation. We just didn't want the public to know what it really was, ... just yet. Most days, it appeared unremarkable, except when it snowed. Our scientist suspected that the shape of snowflakes somehow interacted with the radiation emitted while the Monolith was operating. One could see a faint glow around its surface - the exterior lights adding a reddish hue at the base. Given the time of year, it looked rather cheery. Still, I had to wonder what that unknown radiation was doing to everyone working inside....
The information officer looked up. The face was almost translucent glowing like a crystal lit from within with winter moonlight. I expected the voice would be like ice singing.

I live in a remote area of Wyoming. I have walked in a similar snowy landscape, but without ever seeing a monolith like this. If I did see such an alien artifiact, I'd probably have a heart attack. But the music is so peaceful and relaxing. Thnaks!

The trail led me to an old machine that seem to be on the verge of leaving this planet. Like our Rover on Mars this machine was the same sort but far more advanced. It had been here for millions of years. Its builders are calling to it. And it requests me to get on board before departure.
