So lets get right to the point. I think this song was directed to either peridot or steven. It seems a lot like she's talking about fusion. Now, this is a THEORY. Its just an idea I had while listening to this skng, and i am welcome to arguments or additional theorys. Now here is my reason. "Those funny feelings I had necer felt before i met you". I am not sure if this is directed at steven or peridot, but either way it makes sense. "So many colours i had never even known". Could she perhaps be thinling of a time when she was a fusion? Now, I dont mean malachite, but perhaps peridot? After all, there are only a handful of episondes featuring lapis and peridot on the barn, and we domt really get a view of what happens when steven and the gems arent visiting. The reason I think they have already fused is because theyre such close friends or maybe more but were not sure. Now skip to "then i see the colours fading, gentleness of light escaping, shadows of my fear invading, have i seen this all before?" This sounds a LOT like what she would think whilst in a new fusion after malachite. Think about it. Anyways, youve made it to the end, CONGRATS!

The song is literally about depression.
Lapis is depressed, and she's lonely. And finally after accepting and attempting to overcome her loneliness, trauma and fear forces her back into her loneliness out of fear. This trauma is the terror she speaks of.
She wants to stop being lonely, but she's afraid, and every time she's about to overcome her loneliness and reach her goal she's snapped away by her feelings.

I relate to this song so much it hurts just listening to it, I finally met someone who gave me hope in my life in my final year of school and it was when from joining a sports team for the first time in years. Sadly we only got to hang out about a total 3 times during our games and some more from practice, but it felt like so little time. They showed me genuine kindness and concern for me, which Is something I haven't felt from someone else In a long time. And not only them but other people from there gave me similar feelings and I was finally happy for the first time in a long time, thank you all, I hope I can meet them all again and have happiness again like then.
