I absolutely love this collection. There is something here to delight, to amuse, to honor both Chanel and Lagerfeld, and yet express the motifs and aesthetic of the House in fresh new ways. To me Chanel herself was the embodiment of bohemian chic. Elegant, slyly revolutionary, feminine, yet strong, with her own point of view and the attention to details of a true artist. Virginie Viard carries this magical blend forward so beautifully.
Love this show so much! So elegant with a sense of restraint. Virginie really honoured the life of Madame Chanel and the convent where she lived with these designs. So much depth.
A very light, pure, summery collection, good music, romantic setting, it all matched very well. A very difficult collection in its simplicity and small details, a collection to be admired carefully in detail, in a moment when most of the shows are that 'shows full of bright, sparkling, costumes & disguises'. ** I add after watching it again: so simple that she wants all the attention in the clothes themselves, no hats, no camellias, no handbags, no jewellery, just THE CLOTHES, perfect!
Oh my good God the soundtrack, never thought someone would use Its a fine day, even less Opus III's version, they nailed it with the music, gave the video a spirit and atmosphere. Exquisit.
I love the “simplicity”. Definitely new era for Chanel. Beautiful as always. I love most of the looks. Wearable for sure. Breeze of fresh air for the house. ❤️💐
i dont mean to be offtopic but does any of you know a way to log back into an Instagram account? I was stupid forgot the account password. I would love any tips you can give me!
@Owen Ari i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
This is definitely a style an every day person could wear, some pieces are simple and look super comfortable. Oh, and then you have more choices to wear out at special events, flashy and elegant!
Keeping Virginie’s subdued, minimalist signature in mind, I feel like it’s more important than ever to focus on the tiniest details of the garments that celebrate the know-how of the artisans and to appricitate the strength of Viard’s design philosophy. Her ‘first’ Métiers d’Art show was my favorite in every single aspect.
Ward Jonkman it’s haute couture, we already know the craftsmanship and detail are superb... the collection and show as a whole, is simply disappointing... CHANEL has fallen back into its past cycle of irrelevance... when coco passed away in the 70s the house made the same Chanel suit in a handful of colors, the black lamnskin leather quilted flap bag, and iconic NO.5 perfume... and we see this very similar plateau with Karl Lagerfeld passing away... the problem is Virginie does not have a strong enough point of view...
This collection was inspired by the black and white uniform that the girls from the aubazine convent used to wear and when the aristocratic girls left the convent they wore the most wonderful couture dresses, they have to be simple and chic, congratulations Virginie 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Yes and that is what it evokes, at least for me. A look back, kinda nostalgic and romantic at the same time. The collection has a feeling but not of a haute couture.
Without reading your comment first.. this reminded me a mixture between nuns both ..convent ones and health care ones... especially the last white dress
BRAVO! beautifull collection! beautiful show! beautiful clothes, nice silhouette, and there is something that is clear to me ... it is obvious that the scenography is the backyard of the convent of madmoiselle coco! with the clean white sheets hanging behind. You see the vitrals in the clothes, and the nuns' uniforma. just brilliant
At first, I found this collection to be just flat and unimpressive. I was kind of dissapointed. But after seeing the detailed pictures and watching the video, this collection really grew on me! There is a lot to appreciate here... the craftsmanship of the atelier is everywhere, just open up your eyes! It's fresh, rich and sophisticated. And that leads me to the conclusion that Virginie must find another way to present the collections. The Grand Palais and the big settings are not made for her. People must be able to see her clothes up close in order to fully enjoy them. Let go Karl's grandeur and find a new venture for yourself, Virginie! Don't try to mimic Mr. Lagerfeld, otherwise the feeling of "someting missing" will continue to linger in everyones head.
Actually Chanel had another private presentation after a marketing show like this because their actual or most of their clients do not want to be public or in press. On that show clients will be able to see the details up and close. Many things are actually happening beyond the recorded shows dear.
it'a just another show where virgine proves that she is the right one, maybe she could be a bit more risqué taking but the collection shoes the way Chanel is really well. It's also futuristic, because of the simpleness love it
The best way to see Coco's life in this collection is the best version of life itself, she traced everything that would be her life, and the codes I leave are the best sample of the house.... BRAVO BRAVO BRAVOOOOOOO
Virginie has been designing Chanel for the past + 20 years and Karl was just there to add things, edit, just like he did at Fendi. Don’t get me wrong this collection is beautiful but it’s missing something. It feels flat.
how come that there are so many video online were you can see Karl drawing the collections, and the drawing style of Virginie compare to Karl are different. I have been to Karl's designs studio and photo studio and have seen his drawings and the real dresses so, your information is not 100% true.
Black & White, very Coco, very Aubazine, very CHANEL. And the wedding dress is new Little black dress, but in white. The collection is very simple, but at least we can see the amazing work with fabric and cut. I admire how perfect the fabric fall on the bodies. Amazing as usual
I like it very much. It was different. I also like the music. It's been about a year since the great Karl Lagerfeld has been gone. There will never be another like him. I believe that Virginie Viard was his first and only choice to follow after he was gone. I trust his vision and belief in her. I think we will see CHANEL continue to be a leader among the many fashion houses of Paris and for that matter, the world.
have to say at first I was kind of unimpressed but after a few minutes of watching the outfits were much more couture and I actually really like it. I also loved the music choice
I appreciate Virginie a lot. Seen so much great work of her during the years of following Chanel and I really like her but I have to say this show wasn't what I expect from Chanel and especially Haute Couture. Depressing silhouettes...
It feels very 'now' though. Viard is a good designer ....but I have not seen anything yet that would make me think she is a 'great' designer. Actually, I'm not sure Lagerfeld was a 'great' designer either - although he was a very brilliant stylist with a prodigious knowledge of fashion history, he was not in the 'holy of holies' with St.Laurent, Chanel, Patou, or Balenciaga.
I love Chanel so much and the pieces were gorgeous, I wish it has a little bit of something else to make it seem like it was a couture collection. Still loved it and the makeup was AMAZING
it looks like there is a strong subtil message in this show... the lyrics in the songs, the set... i dont know, it triggers me ... anyone else? It does not bother me that the collection is not THAT SUMMER or THAT COUTURE,... there some new sensibility in it. Strong
Just my personal opinion The music kind of give vibe that’s beginning of mystery/horror movie and I was so excited for the stage when I clicked it I imagined something unexpected/magnificent like 🚂 and the clothes I don’t know I had to check the name again if it’s really spring/summer I did not see any pants short varieties only medium length skirt or long dress
I get what everyone's saying, I also think it looks kind of boring and conservative in a bad way, but there's this *summer afternoon under the rain watching the thunder* color scheme that seems different from what we except for a spring summer collection, and it makes me like it in a way... and the dresses remind me of a bucolic country, which I like a lot, so I don't know how to feel about this collection by the way I really hate those belts😂
Because Haute Couture is for a clientele older and more conservative, apart nowadays the biggest market for haute couture is in Asia and the Middle East. But it was a subdued collection without flashy elements. But beware, the details of Chanel are better seen closely...

Simplicity in couture is rare and with the Chanel codes even rarer, but Virginie does it, minimalism in tweed and chiffon
Indubitably.

The spirit of Chanel still continues
