Kylie is Kylie and she’s a queen. No matter what. She’s one of the few high profile stars who you see no one saying bad things about her as an “star” or a “diva”. She’s grounded and I just adore her.
She’s not the most amazing vocalist out there, but she is consistent and she sings live… something that many of the so called vocal powerhouses don’t do.
Jake Shears said recently - When you hear Kylie's voice in the "cans" ie headphones in a studio- Her voice is unbelievable, she already has a chorus of Kylie's inbuilt- ( like a layered version already) her voice was made for pop singing.

Look I´m not the biggest Kylie fan or anything. But baby, this lady has just released two AMAZING back to back albums at the age os what, 55 years old or so? After what, more than 3 decades? And still this successful and in touch? It is unbelievable. I´m in love with her last album.

I think a lot of people who are dismissive of Kylie's vocals think to be a "good" singer you need to sound like Whitney, Celine, Beyonce, Mariah etc.

Yes. Just like back in 90s, a lot of people dismiss other singers can’t sing like Mariah, when she burst onto the scene. But I’m glad that Kylie, Janet & Madonna countinue to evolve & bring something fresh till now, while the so called 90s powerhouse just rehashing their old hits over and over.

Kylie still sounds like that I think because she took the choice after the PWL years to always keep her vocals moderate so she could always deliver live. She sang more powerfully back then, plenty of live performances prove that. After PWL she had alot of training and her range and technique improved alot but she rarely belted from then, especially live.

Yes I agree. I'm sure I've read an interview where she said she enjoys working with song writers who understand that songs need to be performed by her. So she's definitely had that in mind when working on songs, especially singles, they need to be performable.

In the show, they are Voltares house dancers. It’s an immersive experience. They also have acrobatic and entertainment before and after the show and interludes (costume changes ) during the show.

My favorite song from Tension is You Still Get Me High. I know there's a hype from fans about some high notes at the end of the song, which are awesome, but the Laura Branigan vibes of it is what I love. Things We Do For Love and Just Imagine are highlights for me as well.

I don't care that Kylie doesn't sing like Mariah or Whitney or Adele....her voice is sublime and not irritating like those who sing high notes or try to sound 'big'.....Kylie always gives good vibes and energy, always so positive and fun!! Can't wait for the world tour next year!!

Your Disco Needs You was written by Robbie Williams and recorded by Kylie back in 2000. It was never released as single despite its obvious hit potential. The track was a MASSIVE hit in the Gay Clubs back in the day. There is no doubt that Kylie is a superb performer with tons of charisma and delivers a real show. her vocals like most pop stars are nothing special. Performing "live" means something very different in 2023 from what it did 40 or 50 years ago. Few pop performers (and even rock stars) deliver a pure live vocal without assistance from technical enhancements. This would've been career ending back in the day when "live" meant "live". The very idea that you would attend a concert and the artists would be lip syncing for even a part of the show just would not have been tolerated. Far more emphasis is placed on the spectacle now that in the past- for good or bad. Adopting new technology has shifted how artists perform and what audiences are willing to accept. The introduction of electric microphones resulted in a different singing style- "crooning" back in the late 1930s and 40s. There has been a shift too since 2000 with a very unique singing style that can clearly identified as being from the early 21st century.

There are only fan filmed videos, but it is just Kylie sat singing, one of the guys from abba playing piano, and an orchestra. No tricks, no backing singers, just a beautiful moment 💙 thanks 🙂

About the dancers in Vegas I don’t know but the difference between the dancers in her videos or tours and the
Vegas ones seems to be the hight. These dancers are like giants compared to the dancers she usually has around her.
I thought that too- they are actually a bit too big for the stage.

Great reaction. You can try to watch Tension (since you like the song) but I don't like how it sounds live - a huge part of it is just a studio version playing and Kylie doing very simple 'choreo'.

I don't know where all the dancers came from, but I do know that she did use the resident performers for Voltaire in her show, called Belle de Nuit. They're like a Cirque Du Soleil type group.

The dancers question: good observation, the dancers are actually from Vegas, they appear in the pre show, Belle of the Night.
Oh, and btw, seems that they are in house dancers and not from her production team. And I believe that as well since would be a lot demanding and expensive for Voltaire to bring so many people to US together with Kylie when talking about contacts.

Just to point out Georgina she also has a live band and backing vocalists (the two wearing black standing at the back) in this show. I’m sure one could be also be singing parts of the song in unison with Kylie’s lead vocal.
That could be why her vocal tone changes during parts of the show.

Funny you should ask about how Kylie selects her dancers because about 13 or 15 years or so ago, I had a friend who was a dancer (we lived in Dublin and these events happened in Dublin) and he was on a reality tv show where the prize was dancing for Kylie at one of her shows. He did not win. I can't remember what it was called, I did find a clip on you tube of her meeting the two winners, though.

Completely agree with you. Her voice is great and she's very much still got it! I really feel like her "critics" on here just want to say something controversial for the sake of saying something controversial, and for attention of course because god forbid the world doesn't revolve around them for five seconds. That attitude seems to be the same all over social media and on every topic under the sun. It's getting really old REALLY fast.

The dancers are chosen by the venue I believe. They are the same dancers Christina Aguilera is using for her residency at this same venue. Some of the dancers are also part of a Burlesque type group called Belle en Nuit who also now have a residency at the venue which is called Voltaire.

I love Kylie so much, I would like to see any reaction of her songs. I also love the song Tension. I must confess I am in love with Heavenly Body and Heartbreak City lately. My two favorite girls in this moment right now are Kylie and Jessie Ware. Jessie Ware is a phenomena! She sings sooooo sooo good, her last couple albums What's Your Pleasure and That! Feels Good are some of my top10 albums of my life!

The thing is, ever since her start in the PWL / Stock, Aitken & Waterman days her vocal was always heavily dubbed. She would sing the leadvocal multiple times and they'd be layered on top of each other. The reason why the verse of "Your Disco Needs You" sounds different is because her leadvocal is solo, and she's also putting on a little bit of nasal twang. During the chorus her dubs come into play again. Like Madonna, you don't really look to Kylie for Celine Dion belts. Kylie makes great pop music. She's not the best singer, but she's also not bad and she's improved a lot over the years. More importantly, her vocal is very, VERY unique and instantly recognisable which I think is one of the signature things that labels look for in an artist and it's what cemented her into all of our brains. By the way, the weird dancers in the background looking like morticians (lol) aren't dancers, they're the backingvocalists. If you look closely, you'll see their mic-stands.

The dancers are American for the most part. I've noticed some of Mariah's, Ariana's, and Beyoncé's former dancers.

People say Kylie can't sing because she sounds nasal. It's partly because of her small stature, but that slightly nasal tone is what makes her instantly identifiable. Most pop singers have a unique sound. They should not be compared to musical theatre singers.

I've loved Kylie since I was a teen. Especially for you/All I wanna do is make you mine was my first vinyl 12" single! Actually it was the B side All I wanna do which was the better song IMO. You should check that out. Now what i would never accuse Kylie of having was a great voice, tuneful yes, but not strong. Productions hide the fact and always have and of course the era of Top of the Pops and miming was prevalent in sowing the seeds of doubt that any of the singers of the time could actually really sing. I years later saw her unplugged, sort of, live and she sang. And she simply does not have the strongest voice, shes no Leah Michelle. But still her talent for picking a great tune is everlasting. As a vocal coach, how can you not see this?

I think the dancers are from Vegas, they are not regular Kylie dancers and actually some of them seem not as good as previous ones she has worked with. However the choreography is done by her regular choreographer.
Kylie was amazing and love the gold dress. The dancers and choreography as well as the song were not my favorite of this performance. Hope the next song and choreography was better than this one.
