Casual flex of Brandon having the course record at Tobacco Road. That's impressive.
That and being a national champ. Ud assume he played professionally for a period as well
A freaking 60???
Dude's a stud, looks and sounds more like a D1 second baseman than golfer. Tobacco Road is a wild course, tons of sand and tiered greens. If you come thinking you'll hack your way through, you'll walk away with 100+. It rewards the prepared, disciplined golfer who has got their numbers dialed in and knows how to plan each hole back from the green.
"I think you think I'm better than I am, which I appreciate". My favorite line.
To be fair, Eric has claimed to be a 4 handicap for years now and I have never seen him post a video where he plays remotely close to that number.
Tough situation when the player goes more on feel/flow and the caddy is very precise and analytical. Makes it hard to gel and get in a groove.
@@christopherseymour5210 I feel a lot of the tracks he plays aren't like what you and I play
@@christopherseymour5210I’ve played with erik. He is a easily a solid TRAVELLING 4 handicap the way he strikes all his shots. Travelling 4 handicap is like a home course 0-1 handicap.
Kapalua video 👀
shout out to the videographer full out sprinting at 20:39 . Your hard work doesn't go unnoticed. 👏
That's our guy Charl! Hardest working Green Cam in the business
After playing this course twice in 2023, it makes this so much more fun to watch. I shot 98 both times and this makes me feel great about it
Hell yeah!
@@RandomGolfClubFilms but 98 from 1000 yards in front of you haha
I played it in 2019; such a difficult track. Those pine needle beds are something you pretty much never get to practice with if you aren't in North Carolina. I went out with a really conservative approach, sacrificed distance and hit almost every fairway which is huge on any course in Pinehurst or Southern Pines. Laid up a lot and didn't worry about greens in regulation. I set myself up for 30-50yd wedges into the greens, so I could stick 'em where they needed to be for a two putt and not be chasing all over. It wasn't sexy but for a mid-handicap hacker, it was a course management strategy that worked. Pine Needles is another course in that area that is awesome and not as expensive as #2, also designed by Donald Ross.
@@silvermediastudio what did you shoot?
@@troyoobrien A "casual rules" 88 - didn't hit from terrible lies, a little relief allowed to keep it fun, and two mulligans if I recall correctly. If I was playing it strict USGA rules, would have probably been mid 90s. And we played from the whites which was just over 6000yd.
You know @EAL - I hope you never give up this breaking series.
I am sure it's frustrating to have a blow up hole or two published on the Internet for all to see, but please know that we don't watch this content for how far under par you are going to shoot, but because of you.
You embody so much about what is good about golf - passion, love of a fickle game that is so ridiculously arbitrary.
I will always watch your content for as long as you love the game enough to tackle it day in and day out. After all, this is what life is. Some days are good, some days are bad, but as long as we can end another day having tried our best we can hang up the sticks happy... and try again tomorrow. Cheers
EAL’s stuff is the most honest depiction of golf on youtube- if not media in general ❤
There aren’t enough videos like this out there. Golf is hard
Golf is hard!!
I feel like the lack of post-commentary or walkthrough is a sign of misery and not wanting to relive an experience so soon after it
The worst round of golf is when you have practiced and think you are hitting it well.
Oh God yes... Expectations eclipsing ability makes for a long long day
However…as my Dad used to tell me: “The worst day at golf is better than the best day at work.”
That is the truth. You need some misses mixed in your warm up session
That’s why I go straight to the Tee 1😅😊
Maybe you can talk the team at Arccos into a Canadian subscription (for 6 months). For someone that can only golf 5-6 months, it’s hard to justify the annual subscription.
Paying like 250$ for 6 months is insane. I feel you.
6 months? Lucky. I get maybe 4
You said you didn't "want to play this course again for another 10 years," but I appreciate you playing it with me a few short weeks later. Pinehurst is a hell of a course and I'll never forget the experience. Preciate it RGC and EAL. "The ball has already landed."
Enjoyed the round! You never backed down and faced the challenge with courage and resolve, that’s how golf becomes “a pleasure, not a penance”. Golf is the greatest game because each round challenges us to reveal our character and improve ourselves in the process. HSFS, my guy!
28:17 did they omit a bad shot from the video? Caddie: “Okay that’s a little better. We’ll play that one.” You can see a topped divot from another shot right next to him. And EAL gives him the look of death like why did you say that.
Yeah that’s so interesting… 😅 But you would think if that was the case they would edit out the talking from the caddie after the shot. And you’re right that is a death stare if I’ve ever seen one lol.
@@adj1776 maybe didn’t catch it when editing or didn’t have a choice…they needed the shot. You can def tell EAL wasn’t expecting him to slip that nugget. Probably topped the hell out of his wood and was already kinda pissed, so hit another to try and not kill the video that early.
@@besticandogolf5901 yeah it totally makes sense. And it’s not a competition, he’s doing it for entertainment, who the heck doesn’t rehit one or 2 when you’re just playing for fun (I know I do)…. Ok I lied… it’s usually a few more than 1 or 2 lol.
@@adj1776 in a breaking series it defeats the entire purpose if it’s not authentic. My .02
To be honest bro I don’t think editing a single bad shot would have really changed the trajectory of this video 😂
Love these videos. Keep up the great work. I have the case of frozen shoulder and it's killing me that I can't swing a club. I'll never complain about anything on the course again once I'm able to play again. Such a blessing to be able to play whether it's good or bad.
Caddies are always the coolest dudes in the world. I need to be friends with more of them. Great video Eric. Place looks stunning. Can't wait to see it this weekend!
Not only does Brandon seems like a great caddie, he also has a sick sneaker game, as well! Even those shoelaces are on point!
Was just wondering the same thing, anyone know what sort of sneaker he's sporting there?
Does anyone know the brand / model?
Altra Lone Peak Mid
Cheers man! @@rockrugbyref
@@davidcampbell3219 I thought it was the lone peak mid as well but looked closer and I think it's actually the Altra Olympus 5 Hike Mid GTX (since it has a vibram outsole)
Such a stunning course. Long af par 4s out there! Shout out to the camera/editing crew for this gem. 👏👏👏
Pinehurst is going to play at the same yardages as it did in the 2014 US Open and Martin Kaymer won at -9. Now *that* is crazy.
EAL got a case of the rights...
And the shanks
The orange shafted Wilson driver was working so well. He was a great driver of the ball. Why change....
@@lukex4924 $$
This is my favorite series you do and it’s best when you’re playing the course! Keep it up! Love the caddie here!! Makes me enjoy and appreciate the majors so much more!
Thanks man, appreciate you
The guy mowing the green while your putt was rolling was insane. Lol.
No matter what I shoot on any given day, I just love being on a golf course. Thank you for the video.
32:05 - Came here for the fox squirrel, stayed for the golf
Such a beautiful course and it looks like it was an ideal morning for a round!
It's so easy to get in your head - particularly when your misses are different than normal. Even more so when an ncaa champion is your caddy....
Love these breaking series videos! Keep it up!
What happened to this guy? I started watching youtube golf because of his content when he was a fun guy with a fun attitude, fun mismatched clubs, and fun clothes going to fun locations and not even keeping score. Now he's another mediocre golfer who takes himself way too seriously, is sponsored by arccos, and gets angry at the grounds crew and everyone else for disturbing his concentration as they are trying to prepare for the US Open. No wonder I haven't checked in on his content for about a year. I doubt I'll be back. Sad to see.
So relatable. It’s so easy to lose focus on a hole and add two or more strokes because you’re annoyed. That hole blows up my card every time.
Eric, it was nice to meet you at Pinehurst. My friends and I were sitting at the Deuce on 18 watching you finish. Hybrid on 18 off cart path is not easy! Even when you try it a second time! I enjoy your content.
Thanks man!
Videos like this are perfect. Showing what an above average golfer would do on these pro courses at their distance. Hope I get to be apart of one of these videos one day
First of all, I love the gray pants EAL.
Secondly, in my short time watching this channel, I feel like you have incredible chemistry with Francis. Watching your break 90 episodes in Austin and in Brookline were some of the most entertaining and the most uplifting.
EAL was so mad at the grounds crew for doing their job 😂😂
I’ve never been at a course where you’re putting and they drive up onto the green while you’re putting
@@mickeyward1878 You're saying you haven't played a US Open Venue as they're making final preparations to get it in shape? I was lucky enough to play Torrey South about 7 weeks before the last Open...They let you know the grounds crew are going to be busy, some areas roped off etc. It's part of the deal.
They could have waited 2 mins. Erik brings in a ton of viewers. That was just disrespectful.
@@cscheatum You think Pinehurst #2 needs EAL to "bring viewers?" No dude, just no.
“I’m not intimidated at all by this course”
Grounds crew- “hold my beer”
Had the same thing going for a while (the rights). Tried to really focus on turning my wrists over at impact (right hand turning door knob left) and it helped a lot…
Likewise!
Since watching this channel my vibes while golfing have gotten so much better
3-4 holes in and it feels like Brandon is playing Xbox golf where Erik is the avatar and B can't figure out how to use the controller
Enjoyed the video. Don't sweat it, some days you're the bug and some days you're the windshield.
Haha so true
I don't know what it is to be a golfer. What I do know is this crew does a phenomenal job of showing it for what it is.
Tune in for next weeks episode in which Erik has an appointment with Bob Rotella.
It’s a good time playing for Jordan 💙 Glad to see my neck of the woods back on an RGC vid.
EAL figured out why he was able to get his tee time lol
I feel like EAL isn't good enough to get as mad as he does. Did he hit 10 good shots in this whole round?
He needs the way of the playa.
40 years ago I used to dream of playing Pinehurst #2. It's fun to finally kind of do it.
Being a Tacoma guy EAL needs to bring waddaplaya golf on a breaking 90 series. He could be your Sherpa. Learn the way of the playa.
Do You mean Matty , golf sidekick ? That would be good
Great content .... I've played there and that course is so dam humbling . It test your patience and your ego...around the green my caddie kept just handing me my putter. He removed the temptation and I enjoyed the round far more than some of my more talented playing partners :)
Number 8 was my only birdie all day. It was a par 5 that day. Approach shot right of green, putt to the flag from the bottom of the turtle shell for eagle, and the putt comes all the way back to my feet. Hit the putt just a tiny bit harder and drain it from 60 feet for a 4. It was fun playing No 2.
The course is difficult, no doubt. But you were "leaking" right all day and straight works on every course.
That was a tough one for our pal EAL. I know he prefers to sit these out a lot of the time, and I don't think this experience would change that. Would be great to have the breaking episode with the 3 or 4 varying handicaps, but I guess for some reason that couldn't be done this time. Keep grinding man, enjoy the process!😜
Angriest I've seen EAL. Also most relatable lol
Driving me crazy not aiming a bit left. You missed right the whole round 😂. Beautiful course though can’t wait to play it.
You know what happens when you aim left...perfect shot
Nice Job EAL. As long as they let you do these, Please Keep doing it. Breaking 90 is always fun.
As always, a journey. That was great. Thanks
Great vid. Great bird on 14! A happy moment for all of us.
Eric ...golf is hard. Loved the vid as we do all your work. Thanks for keeping it real .
Man, I'm not 100% I even want to play #2 after watching, haha. Looks like a great course to get your mind's teeth kicked in.
Same. Just don't play from the tips. That's suicide.
Might be the best intro yet lol great job staying in the bit EAL 😂
That caddie was cool, the course fantastic, but the real MVPs were the squirrels.
I get the ground crew had a job to do but yeesssh, was that some bs with the mowing and sprinklers at times.
more slices than a loaf of bread bro 😭
Banana city 🍌
No way he hit his drive on 12 343yds. NO. WAY. 33:30
Man I’m a big fan of yours, love your channel and your content. I am seriously not a hater, but bro you may want to do a deep dive on WITB. I just switched to an easier friendly set of irons and dropped 5 strokes off my handicap in less than a month while on standby for hip replacement surgery and back to a single digit. It just seems you were frustrated here. And yes I get it, the game giveth and taketh away… many props to you brother
Pretty good round for someone who's obviously self taught and is new to the game. I wouldn't want to play pinehurst number 2 if I was a 20 marker especially off the back tees, hat's off to you.
I cant imagine what I would shoot on this course lol. Wow !!!! Great video as usual.
I don’t know about the ping driver, you were hitting the Wilson clean
Just got a coffee, perfect time to watch
That swing change got you pushing everything right. I know the feeling.
What is amazing to me is that a 4 handy cap (Erik) who hits the ball pure and long shoots 95 because this PGA US open tour level course is so difficult with lightning fast greens so how skilled these tour players are to shoot in the 60s , They just are from another planet , Thanks .
I was shouting "go go go" or "stop stop stop" on almost every shot around the greens 😆
Mowing the green whilst you're putting is wild.
Between the sprinklers and the greens crew....that was a good 6. Oof.
@32:58 did I hear a reference to the way of the playa?? EAL/Baus collaboration in our futures??
Plant feathers
Matty's spirit lives in the middle of the fairway on every hole. Hit it to Texas and you'll hear @golfsidekick whisper in your ear.
What an amazing job you all did .
Been waiting on this one 😎
I'm a 12 hdcp and you made me feel better about my 101 on #2 a month ago. Whew! It'll beat you up.
Eal playing the back 9 for me???? Thats so nice of you man!
Ive been fortunate to play #2. Its freaking hard. The cameras don't capture how hard those greens are and the fear off tight lies of coming up short and the ball rolling back or hitting it too hard and rolling off the back. From those yardages hitting long irons and woods into those greens is a nightmare. If you play there, Id recommend moving up a tee box.
What sunglasses are those ? Been looking for a pair exactly like these one for golf
Seemed like EAL was considering leaving after the first few holes. As a long time viewer of this show, I am disappointed with this one. Seemed very quick and EAL seemed very interested after a few holes. Very little communication compared to most videos. Probably the worse break 90 yet. 😢
Man, I thought I was crazy, I was thinking exactly the same. I get that it's work for EAL now, but this course is bucket list for so many people, at least try enjoy it 😂
Same. You know when you finally get to go to that super special golf track you have been dreaming of.... you practice and play a lot leading up to that round.... you are so ampted up when you get there.... And then you precede to sh$t the bed? I feel EAL forgot to have fun on this one and it really shows in post production.
To me it seems like they had planned to do the video, got the permission to play the course, but when they showed up to a closed course the maintenance staff became perturbed. Kinda loke he was trying to get loose and have a good time, but had to walk on eggshells, and deal with a course that was closed that day.
Scorecard graphic was wrong the entire video. It has the back 9 as par 36…should be 35. Drove me crazy. Loved the video though. Would love to play No. 2 someday.
Where is Michael Pena? Probably one of the best golf YT videos I seen the last few years
Luv these videos. Keep it up EAL
I played here with my old man two years ago... brings back good memories
brutal. yo EAL, you tried closing the left shoulder a bit at address? i dunno, just looks like ya set up for the right miss... love your work
Was rooting for that last putt on 18 off the fringe. Well done sir. Loved the birdie on 14!! LFG!! When will the “randos” start breaking again?
What shoes is Eric wearing? Side note Brandon’s Altra boots are the ultimate caddie shoe.
I thank you for keeping it real… I’ll see you in Minneapolis
Totally forgot this was loading today. What a nice surprise. Just cracked a pepsi for it
God made water for a reason. ;)
Great video as always RGC!! I have to say though, I'm not a fan of Arccos' advertisement strategy though. It's little things, like showing that graphic with the ball flying in real time like it is able to track the ball (it's not) and intentionally being vague about the need of sensors for every club or a subscription in addition to the link. The strategy is hoping that people make a relatively small investment at first to then realize it is useless without investing more. Just not my style, that's all
I'm curious what you changed to create the pushes/fades? Backswing or downswing or both?
It's how the club hits the ball.
I would have thought you would have made a few more pars than 3..... it was a good video to watch for sure
I can’t get over the opening scene of the waitress asking Erik if he’s alright as he is just staring forward saying nothing 😂
Wasn't this supposed to be with a member of RGC? Austin from Atlanta?
Was just listening to the U.S. Open commentators say, "There's NO CHANCE a 2 handicap could break 100 playing from these tees and putting out... no chance." 😂 Congrats on the 95 Erik.
Such an emotional roller coaster in this one 😃
Be kind to grounds staff folks, they work hard so you can play.
Whats the point of making videos like this if you only gonna walk around and being grumpy? Managed to get through 10 minutes then it got unwatchable
Yeah 😢
Playing at a great course and pouting his whole way through the round lol
I kept hoping Eric would eventually learn to aim further left. Nah. Awesome course. Looks a lot like a Melbourne sand belt course, but with different trees. I can’t see the US Open winning score being more than 8 under.
So jealous! I live 90 minutes away and I'm dying to play there in the Open conditions.
Got bout 500 to spend lol
That was painful at best. The lesson here is play the right tee for yourself and have some fun. Pinehurst #2 is a tough course.
The long grass bushes looks like it could also save shots from going in to trees
The fox squirls are so bold & fearless...you can't leave any food out in a golf cart. They will climb in and carry it away when you hitting your shot.
That ball looks way back in your stance with driver! Might be as simple as a set up thing causing the open face slice
11:47 the most low key gangster response haha
Erik, I have a proposal for you. How about we settle the Head of Marketing position at Random Golf Club with an 18-hole match play?
Here’s the deal: we play a round of golf and chat about the role along the way. If I win, I get the job. If I lose, I work for free. It’s a win-win for RGC! And don’t worry, I’m absolutely qualified for the position. I’ve got the experience, the skills, and a passion for golf that matches RGC’s mission perfectly.
What do you say? Let’s hit the fairways and make this the most fun and memorable job interview ever!!
We’re looking into this and reviewing your resume. If your LinkedIn handicap is on par with your golf handicap, we’ll reach out to schedule a match.
“Don’t wanna start with birdie, I hear that’s the kiss of death.”
Immediately liked the video 😂
