Originally from Denver this 454 Big Block Chevy Monte Carlo was auctioned at Mecum and brought to a dealership in Chicago where Darrin bought it from back in 2016. As he owned a Monte Carlo in high school, Darrin just couldn't resist when he saw this beauty was looking for a new home.
The factory 350 motor of the 1976 Chevy Monte Carlo was replaced by a high performance 454 Big Block V8 by the previous owner and enhanced with aluminum intake and new headers. The engine is mounted to TH350 transmission with shift kit and 10-bolt posi rear end.
Darrin has lowered the 454 Big Block Chevy Monte Carlo with 2-inches in the front using spindles and put on 15x8 Rally wheels wrapped in 235/60 tires in the front and 15x10 in the back with 275/60 tires. The car has power windows and locks, A/C, cruise, rear defrost, and tilt wheel.

I love the 1st and 2nd gen monte Carlos
One of my favorite Chevys as well. Glad you enjoyed it
Freakin LOVE the Monte Carlo! I'd love to have a '76, an '80 and an '84 in my collection.
That is a beauty!! I bought a new 1976 Monte Carlo with a 305 when I was 19. Wish I would have kept it and stored. I now own a 1974 Monte Carlo with a 400cu. I love the style!!
They are gorgeous cars, and you don't get to see them as often as Camaros and Chevelles. How often do you drive yours?
Hot American Cars, I drive it once a week. Mostly to the car shows. It stays in the garage during the winter months.
Great Monte I bought a 76 myself in high school days 1989 with 36,000 miles on it !! I still own it and love driving that land yacht 😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏
Great job for keeping it around. Is it in good shape?
Yes I drive it from Mid April to NovemberI try to keep it out of the winter Salt .I put dual exhaust with 3 inch outlets on it with Flowmasters.Rebuilt tranny once,Added a modern Car Audio Pioneer unit with DSP modes with various speakers hidden in dash and rear deck and 2 Subs I updated the AC to newer gas ❄️ Bilstein shocks Like riding on a cloud 👍I live around Pittsburgh Pennsylvania area Take Care 🇺🇸😎
That was my first car ever and I miss the hell out of it. I want another soooo bad.
My first car was a 1980 silver landau with the blue vinyl roof. God, I wish I still had it. LOVED that car!
That's a Beautiful monty. I Have a 76monty with a 350 2bbl. Great car!😊
Perfect stance. Darrin should be proud.
He sure is and loves the 454 BBC he threw in as well. You also own a Monte?
I’m glad I have a 76 Monte Carlo myself it’s a beauty
Got to love these gangsta rides :)
The look, the power, she's got it all....Nice ride Darrin
Chevy Nation for sure one of the cleanest I’ve seen
Your Monte is beautiful. Love the BB! I had a 76 in 1980. Loved the style but couldn't get out of its own way.
I purchased a 77 twenty years ago because I had a fantasy which turned into a labor of love.
383 stroker 480 HP 482 TQ 700-R-4 shift kit, 373-posi.
Hedman hedders, Quick-Fuel 750 double pumper. Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers. Replaced idiot lights for Auto Gauges.
16" American Racing torque-thrust chrome wheels with 255's in the rear.
0-60 in 5.5 seconds getting about 20-MPG. Power windows, cruise control, factory sky roof, factory R-12 AC, factory grid rear defroster.
Red basecoat/clearcoat with white interior & white Landau top, swivel buckets, My fantasy came true, a Monte with balls!
Total sleeper, especially with the bench seat/column shift combo. I have a 76 Landau that I will have owned for 20 years this June.
A monte is no sleeper...🤣🤣🤣they move...i have a 73 350 4 bolt main..and i have walked mustangs🇺🇸💪🤣🤣
It does move, specially with that 454, but the look of it is a sleeper
Cool, what are you plans for it?
@@thatman4853 73-75 not really a sleeper because the round headlights and slanted tail lights still give them a muscle car appearance. The 76/77 are more of a sleeper because they look more like a luxury car with the dual stacked rectangular headlights and the flat tail lights.
@@HotAmericanCars She needs some rust repair (vinyl top car) and a paint job. Not sure which way to go with the engine. I had a 350 crate engine in it for almost 10 years, which now resides in my 86 Grand Prix. I was pulling mid to high 14s in the quarter mile with street tires (vids on my page) (14.45 @ 92.03 mph best time).
Just did the 2" drop spindles on my 77. Installed 17" American Racing
Torque Thrust Chrome wheels on the front & 18s on the back.
The stance is amazing now.
Me want. How I miss my 76 MC.
I hear you. These are great cars
Beautiful,a dream car of mine, the wheels look best painted silver in my opinion 😏
I see you watched quite a few of our stories. That Monte is certainly one of my favorites. Stay well
Simply...gorgeous!
Simply agree :)
I had a 76 Monte as my 1st car. Bought in 1980. Looked exactly like this one. Valiums and whiskey helped me wrap it around a tree in 1982. Sure wish I'd taken better care of it. The super long hood probably saved my life.
That's a lesson, thank you for sharing it with us
Damn that’s BEAUTIFUL 😍👍🏽❤️
That car looks so damn good looks like it was the old school movies love it
Gangsta ride, glad you enjoyed it
That is a beautiful car. I'm going to check out one that is for sale this weekend. All I know it's been garage kept on Jack stands for a few years. I wasn't told how long but I was told it's in good shape.
Gabe Lopez glad you like it and good luck with your future purchase
Very nicely executed.
Got myself a ‘77 I’m going to be working on.
Looking for an Allison 10 speed auto to go with a fuel injected 454 in mine.
Glad you enjoyed the video Henrick. I'm sure it was motivating for you. How far are you with your build?
I’ve been building for a while, usually everyone else’s car.
So I got a little burnt out after almost 16 years.
Seeing someone else doing almost exactly what I wanted was definitely motivating.
I’m pretty far along.
Got the gen 6 454 with the MPFI system-almost got that done, and picked up the Allison 10 speed and aftermarket controller.
All in all? I’m about 70-75% done.
The remaining bulk is from the fact that I need to modify the rear of the chassis and body for an IRS system from a newer 2015 camaro.
@@lordsilvis1048 Nice brother. You're almost there. Give us a shout when you're ready to show it off. I would love to do a nice video story and a little write up on our website covering your build. What do you think?
Very elegant and powerful Chevy.
Yup, she has the style, the comfort and the power
I'LL DRIVE THIS CAR AND SHOW IT OFF. LIKE IF IT WAS MINE
I would be happy to ride with you 😎
THANK YOU GUYS
Someday I will get another one love them
You had one back in the day I suppose.
King Cameron of Pierson,Manitoba had a car like that
He must have been a Gangsta...lol
Absolutely beautiful. Love it.
Nice car! I too had a 76 with the 305....and get this, my name is Darin
Get your Monte back, I would love to have another Darin's car story on our channel :)
Just needs buckets and center console but it's an absolute beast of a car!
Some interior enhancements are definitely needed, but yeah, she is a gorgeous beast. Thanks for checking it out
Personally, it looks great(inside)just as it is. Putting in buckets/console is a pain in the ass. In addition, the floor bolt patterns(for installing buckets)require additional drilling for the extra bolts that will be needed. Not a job for any "rookie" car person. And...good luck finding even decent buckets & console from a donor.. The best Monte's...already come quipped with that set-up. Leave what you have factory...be.
ONE OF CHEVROLET"S FINEST!!!
No doubt, Glad you like that beautiful classic
Hey. I love this. What is the wheel and tire combo?
As mentioned in the video description ;) 15x8 Rally wheels wrapped in 235/60 tires in the front and 15x10 in the back with 275/60 tires.
You cant beat a good Monte!
Big fan, aren't you ;)
@@HotAmericanCars does it show that much? Lol
@@montesgarage3981 Nah, just a guess :)))
That's a black Beauty there clean sharp been a long time since I've seen one of those especially with a big block.
Yeah, the car is very stylish, but the 454 adds a lot of value to it...Darrin said he didn't think twice when he saw she had a big block in it
@@HotAmericanCars I don't blame hom he got himself a beautiful car there
@@petemedina8446 No doubt about that, i'm very happy for having it on the channel.
Clean!!! Love it!!!💪👍
and a 454 under the hood too
I know its been a couple of years, but would love to know if this car is for sale?
Not that I'm aware of Joe. To be honest I don't think he will ever sell it
What speakers and mounting option did you use for the front speakers in the kick panels?
Hey, sorry but we didn't get any info on that from Darrin when we did the Monte Carlo video
Hopefully...he didn't butcher up the front panels to put in speakers; some-times, it's better to just have rear speakers &...that's it.
sweet i had a 77 but no 454 for sure
Them big boats need big blocks. I'm sure you'll agree on that as a former owner
I wish I could buy but I have no money I had a 73 monte carrot
Hp/torque?
i have a 1976 monte carlo myself i am trying to put a 454 in it because mine came with a 350 but i want a little more power do you mind telling me what mounts you use for the engine
All you really should have to do is buy 1973-1975 Monte Carlo big block motor mounts.
Don't have any idea, we feature our followers cars and all details are in the description.Try at any of the Chevy forums
What size s as are the wheels and tires?
15x8 Rally wheels wrapped in 235/60 tires in the front and 15x10 in the back with 275/60 tires....Just a heads up: You can always find additional info in the video descriptions
Is it for sale?
Nope, no cars for sale on our channel brother. Just sharing nice hot rod stories
Would you sell it ?
Hi, I doubt it he would sell his baby
Ok if he ever does I’m interested
@@kennpierce43 Of course, I'll keep that in mind. Good luck!
Chevy stopped 454 Monte after 75. This must be custom. My mom also had a 76 with 305. 350 was optional. First year with stacked headlights. 77 has a hood ornament. 76 has the emblem on the grill like this one.
Yes, you're correct, not a factory 454 car. Darrin always wanted a 454 Big Block in it and the rest you see in the video
Put chrome American Racing Torque Thrust wheels on her. Trust me!
anyone else notice the plate is uncovered in the beginning of the video then it's covered in the end? #whoops
Nice Monte. If your interested in replacing the missing inserts for the Monte carlo crests on your tail lights you can find them at mikesmontes.com
Good tip, I hope Darrin will see that comment. Thanks
Nice car bad job at covering the plate up🤣
Yeah, I’m not sure why he did that in one of the videos he sent, and not in the rest of them 🤷♂️
