Brother, your accent is truly something to behold. I usually get bored in the first 20 minutes of these types of videos but your particular way of speaking kept me through the whole 5 hours of it.
I'm doing my third and fourth playthroughs. For the first time, I've talked some friends into playing, so I'm doing way more co-op than ever before, and giving them the level of guidance I think I would have appreciated. It's been a totally new experience, and makes me appreciate the game so much more than I did before.
Same here, that guy took me hours. I developed a strategy to take him down, by throwing magic items to trigger his black flame ball, then I got close and hit him with a charged heavy of my colossal sword. Months after that I got him first try in the house of a friend, hype af.
@facundovera3227 Haha that's awesome dude! The last couple of times I played the game I also destroyed him on my 1st try. I realized you have.to be right up in his face attacking him, instead of hanging back and waiting for openings
I wonder if Faram Azula used to be a very blue place. Sure, Azula could just be referring to the sky, but I think before it was locked away outside of time, it was probably very blue. That's a pretty common trope in Japanese art, clean blue grass set off by bright red leaves. I think that the absence of blue in its current state suggests that something integral to the kindgom, possibly even sacred, has been severed by the sealing away. It remains, but only in ruins.
I Often Wonder What Crumbling Farum Azula Was Like In Its Prime, Before The You Know, Crumbling Part. 😂😂😂 I Look At It, And Am Amazed With The Architecture.
Damn, no shout out to Lady Tanith's voice actress who was excellent and also played Yara Greyjoy in Game of Thrones. I do like how you shout out voice performers at all.
I watched all of your other Elden Ring videos as they came out. Now, I'm watching this in its entirety. Your editing, insights and narration are just completely awesome to me. I'm extremely glad I stumbled across your channel, man. Great stuff!
Loving your content! Probably my favourite channel for Elden Ring content. Just completed the frenzied flame ending for the first time. . And I feel a tad guilty 😅. I also share your love of spectacle bosses with cool, if not, drastic second phases (fire giant etc). Thank you for hours of incredible content!!
I was hoping that you would make a video for the complete review. Now I have something to keep me busy listening to for many days at work. Thank you very much
hey man, just wanted to let you know ur videos are amazing and make my days at work so much better. I truely believe your videos are something special and one day you’ll blow up i’m sure, keep at it man!!!
Aw, thanks so much man. it really makes me happy when I see comments like this. If I didn't have people like you liking my stuff, I'd have stopped making videos months go, for real.
I don’t give a fuck bro. You cover everything in this game and I’ll listen. I love hearing this game being discussed despite all the times it’s fucked me with no vaseline
sick video mate, had to finally finish the game before allowing myself to watch this. had a hard gulp moment when you brought up the poison mist cheese haha
Watched all of your soulsborne retrospective videos over the past few weeks and honestly i dont know how you dont have more views than you do. Keep up the good work man, amazing content 👏
I like elden ring not giving quest markers but it's a Lil annoying that people praise it for that but then get upset that it's hard to locate npcs and do quests. Like yeah, that's what you wanted lmao
Also brother, you get so upset about missing questlines or bosses, while in the same breath talking about how much optional content is in the game and blah blah. I can't get behind you lambasting the game when it's your FIRST playthrough, of course you missed shit. And you're blaming the game for stuff you heard like radahn being in a certain place? All of this to say, I'm enjoying the fuck out of this review but you're a tiny bit hypocritical in how you go about it. Which is fine I suppose, given that it seems more like you're just talking off the cuff about a game you enjoy instead of a standard critique. Just irks me a tiny bit that in your opinion the game is good because it doesn't hold your hand, is bad because it doesn't hold your hand when it comes to npc quest lines, is good because it has so much optional content and such a large world, is bad because it has so much optional content and such a large world that you miss certain things on your FIRST PLAYTHROUGH. Anyways keep up the great work my dude. I'm just here to shit out my two cents, even though I'm enjoying the hell out of the video!
To be honest UA-cam, having a simple dislike, and like button doesn’t do justice to some of these videos, I mean it in a sense of pressing a massive thumbs up/like/love/appreciate/cool/hilarious/informative/nostalgic button that I would give for a video of this magnitude, quality, quality of commentary, and joy.
Only found your channel last night and watched your Bloodborne video, it was excellent and I'm currently really enjoying this Elden Ring video! I can tell you and your channel are going to go far, keep up the awesome work! Also nice to see a fellow Scot with such great content! 😁😁
Just a little thank you from me for praising roderikas accent as its my own. Its a Midlands accent that some would wrongly claim is from Birmingham, however it is far more common as muck than that and is affectionately called 'yam yam'. Think Wolverhampton, walsall, cannock or west brom areas. Thanks again for hearing it as adorable. We usually just get the piss taken for it 😂
Another great video. Happy to have found you when I did. You are just pumping out great content at incredible speeds. Hope to see you get more recognition, because I think you deserve it. Don’t overdo it though! I want to see content from you for years to come, and hope you don’t burn yourself out! Also, I love long videos on the soulsbourne games, because I’m too much of wimp to take them on myself. They just give me major anxiety, but I love experiencing them through long video essays!
I’m still early into this video, but I’m really enjoying it. I’d love to hear your thoughts on Dragon’s Dogma if you’ve played it before, and if you haven’t I can easily recommend it. It’s not similar to souls games in any significant way, but I’ve noticed a lot of souls fans really enjoy it. It’s one of those games that truly has its own unique identity.
My first memorable experience with this game is getting trolled by picking Vagabond and having a fat roll without noticing until the grafted spider was already hounding me. 10/10
6:08 "perhaps cause I'm just not overly great at these games" It doesn't matter how "good" you are... there is no consistently safe window to damage the Grafted Scion. 😢 I've been playing these games at level 1 since 2018, adding in further challenges like no rolling/no parrying. It took me 4 hours of reloads to beat Scion "normally" The only save for this boss is that it's parryable. Using only parrys and critical attacks, it takes about six or seven to win. Try and throw a cheeky melee attack in somewhere and you are "flipping a coin" essentially. Any window that feels ok will eventually backfire and you'll get smacked earlier than expected. Bosses in these games are like a chess match, find a good spot to position yourself and bait out a couple attacks, figure out which are pawns and which are queens; which attacks you can punish or which ones to avoid. Good bosses that are fun to fight have a punish for virtually every attack they can do. Not Scion 😅 it will bait you in with a pawn but instantly change it to a queen, whenever it wants. It only took me 2 hours on day 2 to beat Scion at Rune level 1 without rolling/parrying/jumping. But that is only because I got "lucky" for 9 minutes in a row and was "allowed" to attack Scion without him choosing to fuq me... If there's a difference in positions where I'm safe to attack versus the enemy swings again, it's so pixel-precise it's a moot point to say to a human. I like it when the tutorial boss kills me quick, but I also enjoy the possibility of learning how to beat that boss and "besting the challenge." It seems Fromsoft just wanted to give us the middle finger 🥺 This game has many of what would be considered in Bloodborne a 'Chalice Dungeon boss' as mini bosses and Catacombs bosses throughout the world. These bosses in Bloodborne were otherwise unfinished or unrefined; with often bad hitboxes or bad windows to attack like above. Those were hidden away in an optional seperate game mode. While I don't mind their existence in the video game, it seems rather lazy to put one of these at the very beginning of a game as the "you're gonna die anyway so who cares if it's fair or good" argument, which is assuming the 'middle finger' narrative is false. Scions hitboxes are precise and he's a complex enemy, so either it's simply a flawed masterpiece or it's an intentional 'eff you' but that would mean any amount of time they spent trying to make the boss decent was wasted.😅 Perhaps some lowly dev wanted to make that the best fight ever and someone higher up said "nah, let's give the player an aneurysm" TL;DR: instructions unclear, 9/10 game, but now have brain rot. 🤢
The mohg damage is technically avoidable. You just have to use a specific item before entering the boss room (I think it's called a "chain of mohg.") If you enter the boss room after doing this, mohg will be completely "frozen," and you just widdle his health down until he dies. You have to wait between attacks, though, because if you do enough damage to "stagger" him, he will start attacking (do 2 or 3 hits, wait a few seconds, do 2 or 3 hits, rinse, repeat...)
holy FUCK my man. I just watched your bloodborne vid last night and it was great. bb is one of my favorite games of all time and i loved your takes. the random dry humor amused me too. keep it up. cheers. subscribed!!
i love your videos man, and your voice is great to listen to while I'm painting or coding, very relaxing! P.S. Have you ever played Outer Wilds? I'd love to see you make a commentary on that game!!!
Haha, thanks very much, lots of folk seem to like listening to my vids when working on stuff and that's really cool! And yep, I played Outer Wilds a few years ago but never quite finished it, and nor have I tried the DLC. I was pretty blown away by that game though, and I remember being scared shitless by that black hole thing in the middle of Brittle Hollow. I may revisit it at some point in the future to see it through to the end and maybe even do a vid on it!
Man, I honestly wish I'd have liked the game enough to talk about it for 5 hours. Wow. Props for that. As it stands, I was so done with the game by the time I reached Farum Azula that I openly welcomed the Frenzied Flame ending. I had tried playing a dragon fire/pyromancy build and got thoroughly flattened by the fact dragon incantations are just shit for the ridiculous pace of the later game bosses, so by the end, it was just exhausting. I liked the previous titles well enough, but the absurd amount of health/second phases/obscuring the screen for the sake of spectacle only to get killed in 2 hits (yes I had 60 Vigor) honestly just made me feel like they had gone too far for the sake of difficulty. The Frenzied Flame ending was the most satisfying conclusion I could have gotten; I really was this fed up with the game. That said, I know first playthroughs can be miserable when you don't know what you're doing (and my obsession with fire magic was definitely that) so I've been contemplating to replay it against my better judgment. I'm certainly getting the itch thanks to this video.
Aw man, sounds like you had a remarkably similar experience to me. I too got super fatigued by the game around about the time where I fought Maliketh, and I was straight-up not even enjoying it from then on. But then I came back for a second playthrough two or three months later and honestly, it made for one of the most enjoyable playthroughs of any game I've ever had and I came away with it with a significantly higher opinion than I had the first time round. I did a no spirit ash run with a focus on Dex and Arcade and it was a blast, and I even found myself more in tune with the overall difficulty level. I really would recommend returning for another around.
Yeah, I wrote that comment around the part of the video with the Fire Giant and realized just a bit later how similar our experiences seemed to be in regards to fatigue. I'm actually currently on my second playthrough of Dark Souls 2 (I beat SotFS for the first time recently and am now doing a comparative run in Vanilla) and really noticing how much of a difference in enjoyment a second run can make. In Elden Ring, the fact I tried to make dragon incantations work on a first playthrough made me fall completely on my face, so I'm hoping going with a simpler setup (STR or Quality) will help my enjoyment. I was truly underpowered by the end - just looking at your footage, I was averaging 450 damage per hit or so, which is much less than your dual wield. Pretty much tells me I just majorly messed up and am just not great at magic builds (in DS2 something very similar happened) I also have a bit of a gripe with the absurdity of combo chains, but I feel like that's just me being stuck in the past for now (I really love the slow and simple pace of DS1 and 2)
I have watched dozens, if not hundreds of excellent Elden Ring / Souls videos on UA-cam and this one is my absolute favorite thus far! No other video has captured that feel of The first play through of this amazing game the way this does. I feel the same way about so many of your takes on the experience. I hope that you’ll do similar deep dives on all From games if you haven’t already.
I REVILE that Serpent Hunter doesn't have modified wind attacks in the rest of the world. Or at least that it could be buffable and let you change the ash of war. Made a kick ass Nameless King build. Just wish I could put lightning or storm/vacuum slice buffs/ashes of war on SH.
The weapon upgraded are tedious if you want to test out a lot of weapons. I would like it more, if there would be less weapon variety or more upgrade materials (yes, you can buy the stones, but they are not exactly cheap), or if you could switch the upgrades between weapons like ashes. You could have one or two fully upgraded weapons, but not being stuck to a specific one, just transfering the upgrades from one weapon to another.
My biggest issue with elden ring is bosses doing attacks that make no sense logically just for the sake of roll catching (for instance Godfrey’s long wind up, it makes literally no sense to stand there for 4 seconds screaming). A close second is needing insane vigor (upwards of 50 at MINIMUM) to take more than 3 hits Just makes the fights feel artificial and also more annoying when you can’t use actual logic to learn attacks and have to muscle memory timings. Sekiro has some similarities to that but the deflect system is much more forgiving with learning timing since you don’t take full damage if you block too early to deflect
3:27:20 Iji himself actually does inform you of this but you have to talk to him after Nokron, the rationale being that when Blaidd never showed up at Nokron, maybe Iji would know where he was, at which point when you ask Iji he asks you don’t disturb blaidd and understand his imprisonment is for his own good, and I believe you can even tell him you let blaidd out, I can 100% understand your point on quests, as this itself is easy to miss, just thought it was worth pointing out it does exist
1:33:00 didn't DS 1 have something similar? it worked for low and mid level enemies, where they would get stunned from a shield block, and you would be able to counter attack
There is a counter to Golden Land. There's a sorcery that will suck up all casted projectiles. I've gotten lucky a few different ways and staggered them out of casting Golden Land before. The big fire pots, big volcano pots, and charged R2s have staggered them for me. Also, and I haven't tried this, but couldn't you jump on Torent and dodge on horseback?
I’ve just gotta say I’ve seen a lot of critiques on elden ring and from soft games, at the time of leaving this comment I’m at 2:34:22, and I’ve gotta say this is probably the best one I’ve seen, all the complaints feel valid, willing to admit when something may be a personal skill issue (scion) honest and fair critiques of repeats (like the siofra Ainsel stuff) (lansiaxx fortisaxx) and I love the way you cover it all, cheers
Good work man! Think you made some great points (especially about the late game), but don’t agree with them all. Regardless, thanks for taking the time to put this whole thing together.
Here's how to beat Moongram....get on the elevator and let him fall. Also, am I only one that think Caelid is a gorgeous place they'd like to settle down in?
Not to talk shit or degrade you or anyone, but I play games in a very thorough way and I found and did like a majority of all the quests and met every npc but my first play through took over 150 hours. So idk I think its quite possible to find all these things.
Kill any merchant will NOT AGRO ALL MERCHANTS 12:30 that’s not how that works, you can kill every merchant individually, there is a ( might be wrong ) mechanic where for every bell bearing you have a single boss will be buffed due to this. ( once more might be false there ) Honestly there is tons of tons of misinformation or incorrect lore references in this, it’s cool to see someone play the game but like the major lack of fact checks is pretty brutal.
It feels like Elden Ring sacrificed identity and cohesion for freedom and vastness. The Soulsborne games were long and varied, but your singular quest tied it all together. It was call interconnected in one way or another. Elden Ring feels like 3 different games in the same space to me. It's not a bad game, not by a long shot, but it's missing what I love from Dark Souls and Bloodborne.
Only reason I found Bleid in the Ever jail (so I can't spell sue me) is cause I didn't use the markers and was going back to each jail to see if I beat them and when I came across Bleid locked up in a jail (My main man) like what why and I let him out only for him to attack me later really confused me til Iji told me what happened to him
Wait you said you didn't see him in the jail but he still attacked you wait I thought he only got out because us letting him out if you didn't set him free then how exactly did he get out of the jail.......yet another unsolved mystery
Yeah, it's really odd that Blaidd gets out of the Evergaol regardless of whether we let him out or not! If you go to Iji after fighting Blaidd, then he just says something like, "How on earth did he escape his jail...", and says nor more about it lol.
Ah, I actually did put up a Patreon at the weekend but took it down after just a few hours cos I was kinda embarrassed and felt like a bit of jackass lmao. I might publish it again at some point but just didn't feel quite right yet. Thanks a lot for the bucks though man; I appreciate it!
Just kinda curious if you ever tried the game Door Kickers: Action Squad yet... I mentioned it to you before but you probably didn't see it due to all your new subscribers n such... it's definitely an underground game but a real Gem (in my opinion only, brother)
Yeah, I remember you mentioning it haha, but nah, haven't tried it yet mate. Tbh, it's been about 6 months since I've played any games just for the fun of it! Pretty much the only games I've played for a while now have been ones I'm doing videos on. There are a bunch of games I'd like to play at some point though when I get a bit of breathing room financially, including Door Kickers, and other stuff like Armored Core 6, Blasphemous 2, etc.
i have binged your entire channel in 2 days
Ok, its time to rewatch again before the Shadow of the Erdtree commentary. Keep it up the great work, lad!
This is the most underated video ever ngl
Brother, your accent is truly something to behold. I usually get bored in the first 20 minutes of these types of videos but your particular way of speaking kept me through the whole 5 hours of it.
"It's my sleepover I get to choose the movie"
Can’t explain it but I love this video. Great job man keep it up, sat through the whole thing and it was a fun ride
Thanks buddy, glad ya liked it!

I Love Long Form Analysis Videos.
You Certainly Didn’t Disappoint.
Me 1.5 years after release and EASILY 1000 hours of gameplay:
Oh good, another hours long ER commentary video. F*** yeah imma watch that!
This is either the ‘Galaxy Brain’ part of that particular meme, or the ‘Vince McMahon losing his mind’ part of that particular meme 😅
I don't get it

Will you be making another video on Elden Ring now that the dlc is out? Really interested in what your opinion is on it.

I gotta put this on the shelf until I finish the game but I will be back!
Holy moly over 5 hours!
Looking forward for what's next!
Aw, dude. Thank you so much for this!
I found my new favorite youtuber from across the big lake.
My first memorable experience with this game is getting trolled by picking Vagabond and having a fat roll without noticing until the grafted spider was already hounding me. 10/10
I’m late but I’ve been watching your videos at work! And they’re amazing!
This video was amazing. +1 for memories and waves of light
you need way more subs. Amazing videos plus a twangy accent that's smooth as eggs lol
love yr narration. can never get enough souls content..
Will there be a part 4?
Hope so!

Many attacks require jumping dodges. The first that come to mind are all the ground stops from the dragon knights
i love your videos man, and your voice is great to listen to while I'm painting or coding, very relaxing!
Hey man just so you know, if you run to left or right, you'll completely avoid the erdtree avatars projectile attack. Great video by the way 👌
Man, I honestly wish I'd have liked the game enough to talk about it for 5 hours.
Pretty much tells me I just majorly messed up and am just not great at magic builds (in DS2 something very similar happened)
I also have a bit of a gripe with the absurdity of combo chains, but I feel like that's just me being stuck in the past for now (I really love the slow and simple pace of DS1 and 2)
Ok i like how the vid started and I'm hearing the title theme of 10-2
Prelate Charger can first be encountered near Mount Gelmir so even that enemy is reused in Mountaintops.
Bro, who kills the merchants? Probably the same lowlifes who killed Oscar in DS...
Ah yes another wonderful scottish man video to listen to while i work today
You are an absolute madlad
Hundreds of hours in elden ring and i never knew about blaidd being in the evergaol lol
The Weeping Penninsula looks like Limgrave because it's part of South Limgrave.
1:33:00 didn't DS 1 have something similar? it worked for low and mid level enemies, where they would get stunned from a shield block, and you would be able to counter attack
Great channel!! ❤ amazing works ❤
Thank you so much!
A 5 hour elden ring video?
I'm gunna need to touch grace
Same thing happened to me with Boc on my 1st playthrough. I'm like "where is this person at??" I didn't look up a guide so i just carried on.
4:14:19 thanks for doing your part
46:20 that’s exactly why they’re called legacy dungeons
You should probably go to weeping pennisula first. I didnt find it for a long time but it feels like the actual tutorial area.
thumbs up for memories in lightwaves alone.
( once more might be false there )
Honestly there is tons of tons of misinformation or incorrect lore references in this, it’s cool to see someone play the game but like the major lack of fact checks is pretty brutal.
Aaaaaaahhhh yeeeaaaaah. Here we go
Cyclonic Draconic Parade could also be a great band. Put them in front of Dream Theater or Rush.
I too have to gradualy releasy my "something too big and long" for someone to take.
I was actually looking for a Patreon link to support your channel man. You should make one.
Ah, I actually did put up a Patreon at the weekend but took it down after just a few hours cos I was kinda embarrassed and felt like a bit of jackass lmao. I might publish it again at some point but just didn't feel quite right yet. Thanks a lot for the bucks though man; I appreciate it!
everyone misses that monkey lol
NPC quests aren't quests, they are just secrets :]]
Watching while playing Elden Ring 😆
@@candletype1a447 absolutely understood, my friend... Absolutely understood
What's the background music from the start of the video from? It's so familiar but I can't put my finger on where from
It's Eternity: Memory of Lightwaves from the Final Fantasy 10-2 soundtrack.
@@candletype1a447 Thank you! That's what it is!
Whats the name of the song at the beginning of the video?
There you go:
Final Fantasy X-2 - Eternity - Memory of lightwaves
I swear ever Scottish person loves this game
I don't really agree about blaidds voice. The contrast between the sophistication of his voice and his animalistic design is just perfect.
26:15 The 'f' sounded really frustrating.
this absolute unit. trotting to and fro lmao
good video from a small channel :)
7:29 Rick :’)
