  • Quick run thru on a simple method of advancing the injection pump timing from 11.5 to 16 degrees for a 4BT's P7100 "P Pump".
~ PART#5 in a project dubbed "Nanuuq" to swap out my lifted Land Rover Discovery 2's blown 4.0L V8 & boring ZF auto for a Cummins 4BT 3.9L turbo (Holset Super HX30W) diesel 4-cylinder engine (Bosch P7100 pump) with an NV4500 5-speed manual transmission. The AWD 4x4 will remain with the LT230 transfer case divorced behind it all, & plenty of Dodge 6BT parts too. Another big phase of my custom DIY build to create a do-just-about-anything off-road / overland rig. Did I mention it's a camper too?

Thanks & yeah I don't do that near enough in these clips. But for the wheel I just printed one the size I wanted & cut it out.

You should consider a fluid dampener 4bt’s Are not balanced and are very shaky as you probably are you now hello Deborah’s help with this

      Fluid dampeners help with this

No doubt they are shakey buggers compared to the buttery smooth 6BT. I know a damper on the crank pulley is critical on an auto trans, but with a manual like mine supposedly the heavy flywheel & clutch should damp a lot of it. BUT I'm still thinking about it, can't hurt right?

Tinker ill be testing the difference Aswell. I just bought the pully. My ati. Damp sat to far back and hit the oilpan. Aera. And if ya use an afternarket. Gear case it also rubed. I need a spacer made. To get it all to line up.

When the pump you mount is bigger than the engine in your wifes car.....

It kinda blew my mind when I first got into these mechanical Cummins engines & found out the injection pump is like it's own little engine with a psuedo crankshaft, pistons, cams, etc

Tinker i said the same thing. Its fascinating.

Rotate your engine by the flywheel, never the timing gears.

For fear that a gear slips on it's shaft...?

@@Tinker1837 Nope, for fear that there is to much leverage on the gear tooth. Do what you are comfortable with 😏
