I am a beginner and the progressions you described is so helpful. My coach just suggested, no knees and now use the rig and a barbell. I'm 62 and 9 months into crossfit and love your videos. I can watch them over and over to really get the idea then move it to the box. So helpful. Thank you
My # 1 most disliked mistake has got to be the basketball push-up. I’ll see people pump out 50,60, or even 100 of those and every time I’m just like “zero, zero, zero”
These are great progressions, and they're exactly what I used to be able to do a push-up again after having six babies and gaining 70 lb. While working on my diet to reduce my weight, I also worked on push-ups with excellent form, slowly scaling horizontally like these videos show. Another key progression for me was the negative. Every morning I got out of bed, got on the floor at the top of the push-up position, and did a slow negative to the floor. I did that until I could also push off for one time and do one push up. Then every day I did one push-up until I could do two. Then every day I did two push-ups until I could do three. By the time I could do 10:00, I was able to do sets of three throughout the day, and then sets of four, and then sets of five. I'm now a 45-year-old female who, at 170 lb, can do 50 push-ups in 2 to 3 minutes.
I am not a beginner but I’m glad I watch this video my coach never corrected me and I believe I am doing the tea push-up I need to keep my elbows in more thanks for the tip
I'm new to crossfit and tried four times of Barbara in last month, I took a lot of rest time during the pushup session, almost 4 mins to finish the 30 pushups (especially in the 4th & 5th sessions), just because have to do it in perfect form... But, costed me over an hour to finish Barbara.
I used steps going up into my house to serve as my pushup progression tool. It worked well. Plus, you can use them to put your feet on to add difficulty.
I still make that cobra form most times when I push up; the bench press reminder to arch when benching really makes the form tweak kinda hard to switch when it's time to push up between WODs lol
If you haven’t already! Pls do a proper squat form video with a PT. I used to squat 90kg pre corona but now if I use any weight my back hurts after a few reps. I want to know the safest way to squat to minimise pain and injury!
The problem is that some athletes get stuck doing knee push-ups and never move on to regular push-ups. The progression he explains allows you to gradually scale up the movement with good form.
I see the cobra most often and it drives me crazy. There’s nothing worse during a WoD with push-ups than to be dying from fatigue doing strict form while the person next to you is snaking them and calling their score Rx. 😫
I called the last one The Mascot Pushup. "Your team has just scored its 7th touchdown, and every time it scores, you have to do one push-up for every point on the scoreboard, so give me the least effort push-ups you can possibly give with a 30 lb fuzzy helmet on!"

That's awesome, welcome to CrossFit!
#6. Drives me nuts as a coach. Love the progressions.

5:38 All those people who say they can do "100 pushups" are really doing the basketball pushup.

What muscles are engaged as you are trying to hold that straight position ?
The good old push-up. I am not a beginner, but still enough tips for me too 😆😁
Haha yeah for sure - it probably applies to more than just beginners to be fair!
Hey there. I didn’t hear where you said using your knees to modify is bad. Why is that a bad method to use? Thanks..

Yeah it's a common one for sure! And way easier than a proper push up!
#GUILTY 🙌
I am 45 and all i ever dream of a workout is being able to do a good/correct push up and pull-ups....and i can't do both of them until now 😭
the basketball pushup drives me crazy, they go fast. Even in local comps they do it and are not called out on it.-

Top 🔝🙏💪
Not the butterflies 😩 definitely not with the "teenager" 😂😂
😂
Basketball push-ups. I see guys in the military do this all the time. Makes me crazy
My dream is to become as strong as the girl that demonstrates push ups ❤
The basketball push-up is the most ridiculous sight
We call the "dog" the "dog dish". It's like they are eating from a dog dish.
I call them Cop Push-up, you call them the basketball push-ups. Drives me crazy. I work out with a lot of cops and they all do these type.
Haha, seem to be a common theme...
Basketball Push-ups 🤮
