    The man I work for, when he was a teenager, allowed his cousin to jump up on a tractor as he worked so they could talk as he continued to bale hay. No big deal, it seemed, until he hit a hornet's nest. In the frenzied attack, his cousin lost his grip and fell into the machinery. You don't get over something like that, ever. There is a reason huge numbers of injuries occur with agricultural equipment.

      I worked on a farm years ago and the farmer's son was running a 2 row corn picker and saw a cob rolling around in the shucking Rollers he went to flick it and one of the shucking teeth caught his glove and pulled his arm in the machine and he now has 1 arm and he was in the field caught in the machine running for about 3 hours by himself he almost died. Luckily his dad went to check on him when he was late coming in from the field another 15 minutes and he wouldn't have made it. I was sucked into a gravity wagon full of corn once but I wasn't in any danger just had to wait for the wagon to empty. Had it been a grain bin I wouldn't have made it.

      @@hkguitar1984 This is one of the most relatable comment treads I've seen on this channel. MACHINERY KILLS. A few months back, a family friend almost lost his whole arm in a machine while working on walnut trees. His father and brothers were right next to him, too. Thank God they had a tourniquet. My great grandfather damn near lost his hand coupling up a disc plow. And that man's brother fell off a ladder and died while picking cherries! SAFETY FIRST!!!

    • @spokebloke1
      @spokebloke1 4 роки тому +3

      @@michaelwolters3592 yep. We're on acreage and not actually farming, so I don't have any large machinery. But one tool I haven't trained my boys to use is a chainsaw. I thought about it long and hard, and the reality is that none of them have ever expressed an interest in continuing to live in the country or take on physical careers (they're all geeks). I ended up deciding that a little knowledge could be dangerous. I do all the saw work when we need to fell a tree or cut rounds for firewood. They certainly get out there and help me, but as someone who worked around aircraft for a good deal of my life, I know just how quickly a little complacency can turn a great day into tragedy.

    We had a simpler way to pull fence posts with tractor and the chain growing up. With the chain dangling down from the end loader we wrapped it around the fence post once then brought the tail between the chain and post. Pull the chain just tight enough just to have a little tension on it. Then pull straight up with the end loader. The chain will pinch itself to the post as you pull up and act like a slip not. Sometimes the chain will slip off a post, but if you keep the length of chain from the tractor to post short and the tail long it doesn't whip around much

    My Grandma had a mean rooster. When I was 7 years old that thing came up behind me when I was playing with some kittens her old barn cat had and he got me good. He put a huge gash is the back of my neck, he scratched my arms, back and legs and the top of my head. I ran to the house just bawling my eyes out. We had homemade chicken noodle soup the next day. I can't think of any reason anyone would want a mean rooster, especially if they have children.

    I may be a freshly-minted adult, and nowhere close to a safety sally, but I learned very early that if you can see the bush hog chains (if you’ve got em), you’re too close and on the wrong side. Been hit by flying debris before. Not many pieces of equipment scare me, but anything that hooks up to the PTO and spins can kill someone even on my beaten up Allis Chalmers. Not even the dogs are allowed near it.

    Longer chain, pull up with implement, ground man take chain and wrap 360 around the fence post, and step on the overlapping tail as the operator lifts.
    The chain grabs itself, and the pole, with that foot pressure. Easy and fast.
    CAUSION: NOT FOR BUMBLEFUCKS. Ground man should have a hand on the top-ish of the pole as it's being lifted out.

    5:55 the best way to let pressure off it by turning the key on (not starting it) and using the 3rd service and it will take the pressure off.

    That Dewalt chainsaw would be nearly perfect for light-duty if the auto-oiler worked correctly. I'm on my second one because I had to return the first one because it just stopped oiling the bar and chain, with a full tank of bar oil. I've heard it's a common problem with that model. I love Dewalt, and have most of their 20V hand tools, so my experience with the chainsaw was a bummer.

    Yeah, roosters are supposed to be a bit aggressive (they'll protect the hens from some intruders), but some take their job a little too seriously.

    King Durian sounds like a royal stench. I once watched a friend's homestead while his family was on vacation and that included feeding a pack of dogs, two rabbits, two tortoises, four cats, one canary and a full coup of chickens. I don't know what breed it was, but the main rooster stood about three hens high; probably 5x the size of yours and was he mean. I didn't take him seriously until he made my shin bleed through my jeans. It happened so fast I don't know if it was his beak or his spurs because he jumped off the ground to hit me with both. Every day I had to coral him to feed the hens, so I cut down a hardwood sapling and poked it at the ground in front of him so he would attack it and not me while I worked. Bird-brain. He got past it once and charged me, so I gave him a swift kick that sent him backward, but he took it in stride and came back 😆. I had to fend him off with my stick. He wasn't mine, so I couldn't hurt it, but I fantasized about a big rotisserie a time or two.

    Mrs. W, get that phone away from your booby. That is not a place to store a phone. Even for short periods of time. That tissue is so susceptible to radiation. I would hate to hear bad news from Cody concerning a family health issue. You and your family deserve the longest and healthiest lives!

    Hey cody, i want to thank Ms. W for the cool childhood flashback, when i was little we had a leghorn that would chase after me. He terrorized me one too many times and i came running and crying inside to my dad. Dad grabbed his 12 Ga. shotgun and brought me outside to watch as he threw out a handfull of chicken scratch. old larry the mean rooster came and pecked his last kernel just as dad blasted his head off. I liked larry a lot more for dinner than i did as a barnyard buddy.
