Santorini Caldera Hike - Fira to Oia - Detailed Trail Guide

The Fira to Oia hike along the caldera rim trail in Santorini, Greece is totally incredible santorinidave.com/fira-oia-hike. The entire hike takes between 3-5 hours depending on how fast you walk, how often you stop, and can be done in either direction. Overall, the hike begins in the densely packed area of Fira, where you pass through lots of commerce, before ascending up and over a hill and through Firostefani, which is also filled with a variety of restaurants and shops. There's a slight uphill climb out of Firostefani en route to Imerovigli, which is mostly flat. Leaving Imerovigli is where it becomes more of a hike, with fewer hotels and businesses, and more open and dramatic caldera views, before eventually finishing in Oia. The side hike off of Imerovigli around Skaros Rock will add an additional hour or so to your hike, and is also fantastic. If you've got the time and energy to include it, it's definitely worth it. Some suggestions: bring a bottle of water, wear sunscreen, depart early on hot days, an umbrella is a great idea on hot days, sturdy shoes - no flip flops.

Last year, 2023, we went to hike Skaros Rock and afterwards decided to hike Imerovigli to OIa. Wow! So fantastic, we met such nice people along the hike. We did at end of May and was still quite warm.

Is there a reason why Fira to Oia seems to be the most popular as we plan to go Oia to Fira. We were thinking of driving from Kamari to Fira and parking hire car. Then catching bus to Oia and basically walking back to car

Either direction is fine. I do like getting the transportation out of the way and then doing the walk in the opposite direction.
