- Paramhansa Yogananda’s arrival in Boston 100 years ago in 1920 marked the beginning of a new wave of spiritual consciousness in America and throughout the world. His mission was one of world peace and brotherhood, as well as individual Self-realization, both of which he said could be achieved through the practice of transformative meditation techniques such as Kriya Yoga, which he referred to as “the airplane route to God.”
When he published his now famous Autobiography of a Yogi in 1946, it was soon after the close of the second World War, a conflict which he prayed would never be repeated. The book had tremendous influence and inspired spiritual leaders in the growing counter-culture movement which blossomed over a decade later. Through his books, teachings, and practices of meditation and yoga, Yogananda helped to usher in the sweeping increase in interest in peace, consciousness, and self-transformation. For this he is often known today as the “father of yoga in the West.”
Now, as we honor the 100th anniversary of his arrival in Boston - and the birth of his world mission - we celebrate the change of consciousness that began in the 20th century and continues today. In it lies one of our greatest hopes for the future.

ABOUT PARAMHANSA YOGANANDA
Paramhansa Yogananda, born in 1893, was the first yoga master of India to take up permanent residence in the West.
Yogananda arrived in America in 1920, and proceeded to travel throughout the United States on what he called his “spiritual campaigns.”
Hundreds of thousands filled the largest halls in major American cities to see the yoga master from India. Yogananda continued to lecture and write up to his passing in 1952.
Paramhansa Yogananda’s initial impact on the western culture was truly impressive. But his lasting spiritual legacy has been even greater. His *Autobiography of a Yogi*, first published in 1946, helped launch a spiritual revolution in the West. Yogananda brought the path of Self-realization and universal spirituality for daily life.
“Self-realization is the knowing in all parts of body, mind, and soul that you are now in possession of the kingdom of God; that you do not have to pray that it come to you; that God’s omnipresence is your omnipresence; and that all that you need to do is improve your knowing.
As the means of attaining this exalted spiritual state Yogananda initiated his followers into the ancient technique of Kriya Yoga, which he called the “jet-airplane route to God.”

I read his book and became a Hare Krishna devotee. Iam 72 years old and look like 35. Simple living high thinking. I chant the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra, the king "Raja" of Mantras. I eat simple vegetarian food offered to the Lord and read the Bhagavad Gita, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam and other books by my Spiritual Master Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and Iam more then happy despite living through many of life's upheavals. How can someone read the autobiography and become an ISKCON devotee? Beats me. ISKCONIANS condemn all other forms of worship except Hare Krishna Mantra. Whereas Yogananda was very broad minded. He taught Kriya Yoga. He worshipped the Divine mother as much as the Divine father. He never called other Masters rascals like Prabhupada

I came across this book accidentally when I was a student in higher school...i had gone to a science centre in Mumbai and there i saw this book in a showcase...i cannot took my eyes from the pic as it was calling me...finally I had gone there for fun but came out with this book but unfortunately forgot that book in the bandstand while roaming...i couldn't sleep that night and after 2 days again i went there and came with book..that night after dinner i started reading the book for time pass but after 2 or 3 pages it was like my life changed..my country India is full of supernatural saints and yoganandji is one of them...
He did mention in his book that India is the most spiritually advanced nation in the world. Taiwan has the highest percentage of light bearers in it's population. That is the hidden reason the CCP wants to control Taiwan, as the CCP is the greatest focus of darkness on the planet today.
I have just finished reading his astonishing autobiography, so I was fascinated to see this. Thanks for posting it

It's an amazing book I agree. Interesting note about "Autobiography of a yogi" is that it was a book that Steve Jobs read once or twice each year and when he transitioned he had it arranged that those in attendance at his funeral would each receive a copy of the book, he felt so strongly that it was life changing for him.
If you've read his amazing book, you would have no Doubt that he's really doing it!

Philip Goldberg's book The Life of Yogananda is a wonderful companion book to The Autobiography of a Yogi. It really fills in the more earthly details. I found my respect for Yogananda went way up after reading this book. He accomplished an astonishing amount in his lifetime. He also seemed to suffer from the hardships of his earthly experience--the racism and prejudice of the West, economic difficulties, betrayal of some in his inner circle, etc. He looked so tired and worn out in Mexico. No wonder he passed so young. He accomplished more than 10 men put together could. Philip Goldberg's book brought it down to earth for me and I greatly appreciate that.
He accomplished his mission, fulfilled his dharma and made his Ascension after this lifetime.
Autobiography of a yogi is a gift to the world - but also thank you to all those people who filmed him and post his videos as it is pure bliss seeing him and hearing his words.

@@veritas1176 yes absolutely true because Hindu's scriptures say not to commit Sin's. Of Sin's arr committed you will B punished. There is no wore for forgiveness here. Test of them Say's that god forgives you which is not true. So im the same manner here scriptures says about Yoga, spirituality, samadhi ETV etc which others don't even have the clue.

Every human being is endowed with the same divine potencials, India's history does not interfere at the slightest with that.
