As long as you are directly involved in the encounter/conversation, you only need one party's consent to record (your consent counts as one party) so you were perfectly legal. Also by them blocking your way they are basically holding you captive like you said. They are basically glorified security guards and as a security guard myself, we are not allowed to detain people, only cops can do that. You could civilly sue him.
First off I live nearby that spot on the American side of the border and walk on the boardwalks right across from that spot people are always taking pictures every day of the river the bridge the boats. I personally have been part of a wedding party that had photos professionally taken on the river and if you look in the far background you see this very place you were. Border patrol and police are all over down there and I have never seen or heard of any one being told no pictures.

Rads and Rems and i have been saying the same thing in every comment so you must have read it wrong, i am a lawyer and i know what im talking about, had they actually detained pug then they would have been commiting a crime but they didnt detain him at all, they stood in front of his truck while pug just mouthed off and again watch the video again and at no time did pug ask them to move out of the way even 1 time besidez at the very end when he did finally ask if he could leave and they said yes.

Thats not true I worked next to this place and even went over to their yard to help them once or twice, took plenty of photos and filmed something everyday. Plenty of ships unloading, heli’s looking for bridge jumpers etc. And I’ve never had a problem
