I'm happy that I found your channel this morning. As you note, there's a dearth of Pippa info that isn't in German out there. My German isn't bad, but.....I've had mine since early 2019 . I mainly use it for espresso w/ the occasional milk drink. The only thing I dislike is that it runs too hot, even for lighter, more modern roasts. It might be valuable to add in videos of the descaling and back flushing routines kif those aren't in the cleaning video, haven't watched that one yet). Great job. I'm glad you're around and making vids
Thanks, that review was helpful. I want a small espresso machine for the office and currently I'm looking both at the Rancilio Silvia and the Quickmill Pippa. Leaning towards the Pippa, and after having watched your video, a bit more.
@@espressomyself At home we had a single boiler machine for 20 years (an Isomac Giada). During that time we had to exchange the pump 2 times and the heater once. Other than that it was a neat little machine. When it gave up the ghost 3 years ago again we finally went for a dual boiler machine (a Bezzera Magica). That one is really great. But for the office a dual boiler is a bit too big and also a bit too expensive. So I'm searching something similar to the Isomac.
My brother and I have been enjoying our Quick Mill Pippa for the most part. I mostly agree with the review. The mirror finish doesn't really apply for the most part for us, since the version we're using is the matte black version with wooden accents; we also did find a bottomless portafilter, the one by Pesado, where you can easily unscrew the wooden handle from the original portafilter and swap it into the bottomless portafilter since the screw threading matches. The two other downsides that I'd mention are as follows: 1. The space between the drip tray and group head feels small in normal use; even when I use a Black Mirror Nano scale and a bottomless portafilter, there's clearance but it can still be hard to see underneath to look at the portafilter - good luck with a spouted portafilter unless you have a much slimmer scale or don't use one at all. 2. More of a convenience thing than anything else, but a part of me kinda wishes there was a drip indicator on the Pippa, just to know when I need to dump out the drip tray water before it gets too high.
I just got mine a few weeks ago. It’s so fun!! I’m deep diving into all the different parts of home brewing! Thank you for these videos as I’ve had some questions answered here! 🎉
Thanks for putting these videos together. I’ve been looking at buying a Pippa, there is a gorgeous white one with timber bits now. I have a couple of questions if you’re around and don’t mind answering… The top switch that you flick to the left to fill the boiler, does that process need to happen every time you turn it on? I will using my machine multiple times throughout the day. So wondering if that is going to be a process that annoys me in a hurry😂 and after pouring a shot, how long does it take to heat up for the steam function?
Hey! You don’t have to fill the boiler every time. I do out of habit because it makes no difference to the timing and it keeps the boiler theoretically a bit safer in the long run. I think you’d do it if you were doing a shot and steaming or hot water or multiple shots ie emptying the boiler. To heat to steaming is about 30 seconds. Really quick!
Thank you very much for your videos, very useful and detailed! Could you write, how much space is there between drip tray and portafilter spout (not bottomless portafilter)? In other words: what is the maximum height of the cups that can be used with this machine with the standard portafilter?
I was so happy when I stumbled upon your channel. It helped me a great deal when figuring out if I wanted to buy a Pippa. Ended up getting one but saving a lot by getting one that had a few minor dents on the outside but was brand new. Still waiting on a grinder... Maybe Black Friday will produce something
Had mine for 7 months now and still really happy with it. You must have been one of the first few people to do a review and demonstration. Certainly helped me make my decision.
Nice review, interestingly I've got the same set up, eureka mignon with Pippa (in black finish though), I think if you're not into light-med roast brewing then not having PID control is not a big miss, however I wished the machine had some form of control over pre-infusion, in fact it seems it doesn't have any pre-infusion as the pump reaches to 9 bar pretty much as soon as you engage the pump, have you considered adding a dimmer switch to the pump circuit? seems it's a 5min job, thoughts? cheers
I recently purchased this machine and I have a couple of questions that the instructions don't address....maybe you've figured it out 1) can you do shots back to back? if so, do you wait in between shots? Is it necessary to refill the boiler between shots? 2) I always start in position 1 and run the machine for a few seconds before turning it off and switching to position 2. Is this step necessary between shots or just when the machine is first heating up? Any help is appreciated..
Hey Marcelo, I tend to make one big shot for my partner and I in the triple basket but have definitely made back to back shots. 1) I’d say you could go either way. The boiler is 450ml which is more than sufficient provided it’s full when you pull the first shot. Alternatively, you could flick the “hot water” switch for a few seconds whilst the machine is in setting 1 which will help the boiler refill. It then shouldn’t take much longer than you preparing your next round of beans and completing puck prep. 2) I think you could go either way because the 450ml boiler is so big. I tend to make sure the boiler is fill per step 1 just in case and for machine maintenance but it’s probably unnecessary!
@@espressomyself Thanks. I didn't realize turning on the hot water switch would refill the boiler. To be clear, you just turn on the hot water switch and wait for the 3 light to turn off?
Yep. If you read the manual in another part it actually lists the hot water switch as a way to refill the boiler. I found it a couple of months in. If you do it the first time you turn on the machine you can see it take water from the tank!
Has anyone else found that doing back to back shots is a problem with their pippa? 90% of the time my machine will extract perfectly the first time and then not at all the second time, this all being without changing anything. Wondering if it’s just a problem with my machine

I was in the same position! Decided to take the leap with Pippa despite limited info and don’t regret it!

Hey Jake could be a problem with just your machine as I’ve never had this happen!
