      Knowing how physically addictive oxymetazoline is when used as a decongestant I would be very reluctant to use it in my eyes.. Would be interesting to know if a similar product cold be made using xylometazoline which is just as effective but doesn't have the same horrible addictive cycle..
      (By addictive cycle I mean that the body builds tolerance so that more is needed to get the same constrictive effect and when usage is stopped the underlying condition becomes far more severe for a period of 24-72 hours)
      Long term use in the sinuses (including xylometazoline) has also been linked to tissue necrosis and nerve damage due to reduced capillary flow which can lead to loss of smell and it has also been linked to the development of nasal polyps..
      Nope, not going to be putting this stuff in my eyes any time soon.

      @@fLaMePr0oF Oxymetazoline also found in some visine drops, and visine can be an addictive eye drop as well, or at least cause a rebound redness with long-term use. The dose of oxymetazoline in upneeq was FDA approved for long-term use however. But you are right, I am always hesitant with any long-term use of drops, a lot of things to consider. Thanks for the comment.

    I recently started using these eyedrops and love them. They work so fast. Within 5 minutes, the eyelid is completely raised. I have one eye that has ptosis, but when I put it in that eye, I noticed that the other eye, which I didn't think had ptosis, looked more droopy compared to the eyelid that was lifted by the drop. So I think I have minor ptosis in the other eye and it made it more obvious by using the eye drop in the other eye. So now I use it in both eyes and it works wonderfully. I'm so happy they came out with this. My question to you is could these drops help strengthen the Muller muscle so that eventually over time, the eyelid may not need these drops and may resolve on its own?

    I know when using Afrin, it is very addicting and after using it for a short time it begins to be ineffective. If upneeq is similar to Afrin in it's mechanism of action then one could expect to have the same experience with UpNeeq and eventually it becomes ineffective and can even make the droop worse, as Afrin can actually make the stuffy nose worse. I had that experience with Afrin, even being monitored by an MD in it's use.

    Hi Dr. EyeGuy, Upneeq definitely can make people look better! Is there any association between use of Upneeq and retinal vascular diseases (e.g. disorders related to restricted blood circulation in the eye)? You mentioned that Upneeq constricts blood vessels. Would it cause retinopathy, like what is caused by diabetes or hypertension? Would it cause wet macular degeneration? Does Upneeq have long term studies to support its safety? Thanks.

    • @DrEyeGuy
      @DrEyeGuy  3 роки тому +5

      You are asking the very important questions. - No known association between upneeq and retinal vascular diseases.....not causing retinopathy, also not causing wet macular degeneration. Vessel constriction mainly affects front of the eye vessels. The big question, about long term studies is the same question I have. The FDA has approved Upneeq for long-term use, but with the eye drop being so new, I don't see any very long studies done. I have a phone call planned tomorrow with my rep for Upneeq. I have asked him these questions before, but just wanted to clarify more with him. I'll let you know if I find out more specifics. Thanks for the questions.

    Just took my 1st drops this morning, and WOW!!! Within 5 minutes, my eyesight completely changed. No more squinting or overdramatically emphasizing the opening of my eyes in order to read my morning newspaper. This was given to me as a sample to try yesterday by my eye specialist (surgeon). He said that if they worked, he would send in for a script; which I did. I have now watched your video (great BTW), and am wondering if it will be out of pocket. I HAD been through a field test, and was ready for surgery (which I would really love to avoid), but this particular surgeon wasn't in my coverage plan. Nobody mentioned anything out of pocket, so now I am wondering if there will be a surprise once the prescription is fulfilled by Express Scripts?! I have to see a specialist late October for possible cranial nerve palsy. I got a second opinion. My new Doctor agreed with the previous . I think. But I don’t. Looking back at photos I can see this eye looks lazy. My husband says he’s noticed for years lol. Never told me. I just thought since I am 53 now it’s wrinkled. Except it’s only one eye. This has been two years now. Waiting to get some answers. Not just being told I have astigmatism and giving me a new script. Which obviously didn’t work. I feel very strongly that it’s saggy eye lid. In fact Tina Rutar, the specialist I’ll be seeing, wrote a paper on the connection with saggy eye lid and strabismus. When I look at myself or others look at me my pupils don’t look misaligned. They feel like they are though. It’s slight they say but my question is this, can all of this vision issue and dizziness for a few years and tilting my head back to see clear when I drive, be just saggy eye? Like I’ve read ? I mean is this common? I have had trauma to this eye that I feel could have weakened it so one wrinkle was all it took to make it go faster than the other. Uhg. I’m very depressed over this. It’s been life changing. My quality of life has diminished. I can’t do my normal activities as well because I feel so off balance. I cry a-lot. It’s so emotionally and physically draining to be me for the last couple years. No one understands how hard life is for me right now. So I just take one for the team but I finally told my husband I should NOT be driving anymore. I know I’m not safe on the road. .

    I was doing some eye exercises and stuff that they tell you to do to fix this like the tape and all that but then I started looking closer.
    I realized that there’s just more skin on that eyelid than there is on the other. When I close one eye, you could see there’s more skin than on the other eye. so no matter how many exercises you do the skin or the eyelid will droop a little more because there’s more skin letting it fall down. So I would say the only way to really fix this is to actually have some type of surgery where they actually have to cut some of the skin or shrink some of the skin somehow.
    And I’m guessing this eyedrop’s tightens or shrinks your skin for a short period of time kind of like where that product takes away wrinkles for old people

At time I suffered from dry eyes, but then I developed irritation my eyes were blood shot very dry & itchy, I spoke one of Dr couldn’t put his finger on causing it, I thought maybe I might need steroid eye drops to calm them down. I thought sitting in front of the computer all long did help.I got some steroid eye drops but it only made my eyes worse. One morning getting ready for work I accidentally picked up my nose drops instead of my dry eye drops & put them in my eyes. Suddenly I realised what had done and I thought OMG what have I done! Suddenly my the eye redness disappeared my eyes felt such a relief I was absolutely blown away! Then thought it’s only antihistamine which known to be used eyes & nose. The nose drops had only 0.05% oxymetazoline & your upneeq has 0.1% oxymetazoline. This is cheapest nose drops on the market. At time I thought I should dilute oxymetazoline into dry eye drops, so I put 3 parts dry eye solution to 1 part oxymetazoline & I have been using this the for last 2yrs only a small drop in morning in each eye to rid dryness & redness for a pennies of the cost considering the price of upneez is astronomical 480 dollars for 45 vials, lasting you 45days how ridiculous is that!!! for such a cheap antihistamine drug. Mind you I’ve never looked if it is giving me eye lift but then it’s extremely diluted dose I use. Go get yourself some cheap nose drops & do 50/50 into each bottle & you have 2 bottles which last one year or even more! I hope that helps 😊🤔😆

      Hi Alex! Great question. Most doctors that have a license to prescribe medication will be able to give you a prescription for it. It's fairly new right now, so likely your best bet would be an optometrist or ophthalmologist. Either one would be great, and they would be able rule out any other causes for the ptosis as well.
