I think it's fair to say that nobody did with voice what Mariah Carey did. There might be arguments over who the greatest voice is, but come on, I've never heard vocal harmonies and vocal parts like on her records. The creative aspect of it is mindblowing.
John Edwards that’s what makes her successful she’s been relevant since the 90s up to the 2010s and her 18 number one was when she was already 18 years into her career. Who’s going to do that now a Days no one . Her singing technique keeps her on top that’s why she scored her 19 number one hit last year . People don’t tired of her voice !
@John Edwards Agreed. I appreciate her artistry a lot, she has her own thing for sure but there are times when I hear her sing and just go like, "You know what, this would sound better if she wasn't doing all these runs or singing 150 different notes for one syllable", know what I mean? Sometimes less truly is more, and we're not just talking about the musical backdrop, but also the singing.
@John Edwards My gripe with popular figures has always been how they're seemingly above criticism even if it's actually valid or justified. True, there's a lot of biased, unfounded criticism that devolves into plain hate, but often times there's this mentality that because someone has a certain reputation, they're only ever faultless. I'm very much against that school of thought. By the same token, I will not hesitate praising someone for something that they're indeed great at - giving credit where it's due is also essential. But anyway, yes. If you look at younger singers like Billie Eilish who employs this whispery type of singing and also leaves a lot of space in her songs to really highlight her vocals, I find that truly endearing. Not comparing Billie to Mariah at all, because they're two completely different artists, but I was just giving an example there. Mariah has written many amazing songs, true. Her songwriting is indisputable, but a lot of times her, idk, Ariesness maybe gets the best of her and really makes her do all these actually uncalled for runs and harmonies... "One Sweet Day" is a prime example. Beautiful song, but she literally sings every other syllable in 10 different notes that it just takes away from the actual songcraft.
@John Edwards mmm not really, caution sounds a bit different not because she got worse but it's overall a more modern album especially for mariah. She musically evolves but she stuck with a technique she can't maintain with her fragile voice. That technique worked for her, and never failed her. It's the style>the technique for her because she's an artist like that.
OH MY GAAAAAAWDDDD!!! This is the version of Honey I heard FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!!! It was on World Radio and I had my tape recorder ready to tape it because I was waiting for the premiere!!! I listened to the song on repeat for 24h after that! 😂 THE SYNTHS!! They gave me LIFE!! And the vocals, the BGVs, her little laughter, EVERYTHING!! I guess that was one of the most exciting moments in my boring little teen life! 😂😂😂
This was really my favorite version of HONEY, heard it on radio in the 90s, twice or thrice...This was sent to Pop Jazzy radio stations in our area (those who doesn't play tracks with rappers)
Honey it's never enough when you think she's done. She come out with even more surprises! Love her vocals on here super amazing! Luv ya! Mariah !❤️ Ain't it over!
i've listened to this version so many times and the drums are so smooth!!! got so used to it it makes the snare hit on the radio mix sounds so harshhhhh lmao
Wow just when I thought I've heard everything that M has done. Well I was wrong. This woman never ceases to amaze me. I swear mariah is in her own lane. Her talents are unreal. Only SHE can produce music like this. Mariah status (a term used when it's beyond legendary or out of this world, something i coined)

The faint sound of the rap vocal removal is kind of jarring. I had the cassette version of this song back in the day. It’s cool to hear it again though. ❤️
Is this the Q-Tip produced version that was talked about on Questlove Supreme by any chance? They said the drums were harder on the demo and this kinda sounds like that

@John Edwards She wouldn't be herself if she did it another way. The business has a lot of great voices but not a lot stand out.

When I thought I'd heard Mimi's entire catalogue... I'm simply amazed. Love this version!
I’ve heard she had like maybe 11 versions of this song lol. I’m happy she released this :)
Agreed, except for at 3:50. Must've been a demo.

Cledyston Dos Santos Mine too!!! Nostalgia.
What is the difference between the album version and the Smooth version?
@@edwinadrianta6343 I think softer instrumentals, no rap/male vocals and I guess louder, more prominent Mariah vocals.
The voice, the hair, the body, the vídeo, everything was absolutely perfect in this ERA🎶🎶🎶
My niece who is 8 years old, loves this song 😀 I taught her well 😂
This guurl sings like Minnie Ripperton. Like a songbird. Yaaaaas!!
Mariah voice is as smooth as Honey! This is a classic and this Remix is pure 🔥

Yes! They played this version without the intro though. Tuned into FM radio just to hear it🎶💙
The version that was #1 on the hot 100 was her solo but with extra production added, although rappers featured in the MV
Her voice is truely instrument itself.
1997 was one of my favorite years 🍯😎
It's like different to original one. The instruments are more vibrant. And the adlibs are used in live performances
Closer to the song she sampled. I love this
This just in: they took the original version down in the 🇺🇸
