    Your leatherwork is extraordinary
No one else is doing what you do.
Don't quit just take a break.
Your unique artistic vision is awesome. It's okay being different.

I am over 50, and I still don't fit in. Don't get caught up with what people think and how you think life should be. I didn't fit in with my peers. I came to realize people are more concerned with their lives than yours. I invited a bunch of my high school friends to my wedding. Some came, but I was never invited to one of theirs. They took a trip to Canada, who wasn't asked to go? Me. We all got invited to a college party, they decided to take me back to my car so I wouldn't go. You have to be the mature one and go your own way. Don't worry about what other leather crafters think. Be cordial, but stay your course. I listen to opinions but don't care about negative peoples opinions. I was at a point in my life when I had to make a drastic change. I am glad i did and didn't listen to other people. Keep on keeping on. I also do leather work. Just not at your level of expertise.

I'm here because I'm trying to get into leatherwork because of people like you.
You are great at what you do. I'm watching with tears welling in my eyes, listening to your story.
I pray things get better for you.

You inspired me in going further in my crafting journey (hobby for myself mainly) instead of staying on the same comfortable spot

I use my leather work for my mental health. It forces me to slow down and focus. I have a similar social background as you, from the East Coast. I've learned that contrast is always best. I don't want to fit a narrative or label, and if I have to in order to be included, I'm fine walking away. I'd rather be around differing opinions and culture cause being around that contrast makes you better. Putting yourself in an echo chamber makes you lose sight of the bigger picture and ultimately yourself.

      Spoken beautifully
Yeah, I don’t really have an artistic escape lol I have to stay on track with deadlines and stuff like that but I do find time with the art that I do for a living to try and slow down embrace it
Honestly, making videos with her it’s for a UA-cam or my social media is kind of my artistic escape now
Although I have to “do them“ I really don’t have to be on any kind of deadline or make anybody happy with the Contant that I make

I was searching for your leathering blogs. I wanted to teach grand kids leathering. You dont realize that your art work is beautiful. The last four years have done so much to our kids, that this type of interest needs to come back. You would make a great leathering teacher in High School. Plenty of opportunities. I found your blog on Tandys and wantd to see more. Ty..

My brother, I feel all of this so hard, I’m in the same place. Fitting in isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. I’ve never fit in anywhere, def don’t in the Leathercraft community. People like you and me were meant to stand out and stand apart. We are artists, leather is secondary. Do what you gotta do. Much respect.

Bro, in all seriousness, your style and creativity has been my biggest influence with leather crafting. The work is truly great, but what has influenced me the most is the idea and freedom of developing my own style. Seeing your work and understanding that that’s your style is soo fucking badass and motivating. It’s helped me not give two shits if someone doesn’t like the style I do my work. Over the past almost 2 years now I’ve really started to develop a style that is truly mine and I owe you great thanks for that motivation and influence brotha. In my opinion, in the world of art, there ain’t ever gonna be a norm. Those that think there is, are self indulgent ignorant scum bags. Fuck the haters! Your work is badass! Keep up the great things you do for all us that 😮don’t fit the “norm”.

I am a former business owner...sold businesses and went to work for the phone/data provider. It was my best move ever. Retired early and now mess around with leather, I make cool stuff and give it away. Go into the data field, make 6 figures, leave work at work and create in your free time. Do what pleases your brain... Just my humble opinion...

30 years ago I worked at doing stained glass work. Like any real craft it did not take long to learn that virtually no one wants to pay what the work is worth. Leather work, quilt making, stained glass and painting art, being an author seldom if ever pay any bills. Thanks for sharing your story. All of us carry some issues that make us who we are. Stay focused on your needs to express yourself through your creative drive. You are not here to satisfy others with what you can create. Your output should remain "your work." Just do you... you will be fine! When a stone cutter scratches out a statue he is alone in ways that few understand. If he makes money that is a blessing. With money or not it is something he has to do ... he has to let it out. You are not alone in the isolated life you work through. Stay strong. I draw, build things out of wood, write for a blog, create videos, burnish the edge of leather, and sing a song once in a while... for me there is something I have to let out. I am 77 and will die one day with plans, dreams and unfinished projects. Life is still an adventure... and I have always felt alone.

You’ve got to be you, you can’t be anyone else, so from one demon tortured misfit to another, be proud of who you are, what you’ve achieved, earned and overcome and F the people who want to try and pigeonhole you into fitting in their stereotype box or those that belittle you for not doing so - you weren’t meant to live in a box dude, a box is where you put people when they’re dead. You’re too vital and alive for that - squash those box stereotypes and carry on shining your own brand of creativity, whatever form that takes. Art is art my friend, in whatever form it takes. ✌️❤

While I do wear jeans, I very much focus more on blending the western style with macabre/occult/punk/rock. Having people appreciate the uniqueness of your art is key in driving us forward as individuals. I don't tend to find many that have similar stories and similar styles, but you're not alone and do fit in. The crowd you fit in just isn't as represented. We don't have many of us out there, so keep it up.
You're not a leather crafter. You're an artist that uses leather as a medium (I just heard you say this as I was typing it). Being able to make wild art with function as well as form is why people don't feel you from the niche. You're out of their box. Boxes suck. Stack the boxes and create a leather mural to hang on them. Have a good week, friend.

While it may not hold much weight, I’d like to say that you definitely inspire me. As someone who’s struggled with mental health my whole life I’ve somewhat come to realize that nothing is WRONG with me. I’m not alone in what I’m going through and people have gone through it before. I’m also a loner who doesn’t fit in with a lot of people and that can be extremely lonely at times as I get really bad panic attacks around traveling and people now

    I'm 65. I am who I am because I don't fit in!
I used to think I was a failure and I had failed my wife and my children. Then they threw me a birthday party for my 60 th birthday. Dude, people literally flew in from all points of the country for that party. People I hadn't seen in years. Everyone had something nice to say. The overwhelming thing people said was that I was an individual, a unique person, a true character! So that's my thing, I'm different! BTW,I started watching your channel because you're different! I'm never going to be rich making things out of leather but strangely enough, all my friends want me to make them something out of leather. As far as your mental health? Somebody said to me once when I was about your age, "nothing that happens today will matter in a hundred years. If anybody remembers you years from now, it's because you were a real person."
    Keep it real bro!
Trust me when I tell you
    I've seen it all!
It's ok to be a little selfish to. Make yourself something cool. Take a trip, buy a tool. You deserve it!

It's common for artists to not fit in! In fact most artists would claim the same thing. Artists are always going to be artists and to be an artist you have to just not give a crap about what group you do or don't fit into. You fit into a group of people that really appreciate your art, your work and your candor. Let that alone be the reason you get up in the morning. .

First Vid Why I am quitting ... I was ready for giving a lecture 3/4 way thru off went 2nd vid and after 6 vids and seeing your work I came across Leather Crafting Dying right in front of us and that really explained your video build up today. Your work should be the envy of many. You time and your work is to levels lots never make it to. The Grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence but the view is different once you are there. I did go back and finished the first video. Your feeling in this is part of human emotions, You are where you can make choices and I could go on. Dude,, I just found your channel and your work is blowing me away.. especially your skulls.. don't give up and quit.. take a step back and a deep breath.. maybe a break.. re think your approach..
I am a Vet.. and my mental health was music for dealing with my moments..
I just found out how much I LOVE working with leather..
    I just started, and I'm 62..
We all have moments of doubt and question what we are doing..
Shit happens for a reason, ALWAYS...
As a artist you get blank page syndrome a lot..
    Happens to me with music..
Take a step back and think about what it is that's making you NOT want to do this anymore, and the why...
and make sure it's the real reason.. and not just a I can't deal with it anymore because I'm in a shitty day mood.
    As to fitting.. WHO DOES?
    I don't..
    I'm me,

Thank you for being so fucking vulnerable, the world needs more of that. And I totally get where you’re coming from. I constantly have to try to “fit in” at my day job and leather has been my therapy. Your videos basically gave me a permission slip to be imperfect and break all the damn rules!!
So it’s tough. You are an artist and a brilliant one at that. And in those moments when you feel a little (or a lot) crazy, just remember that we’re all a little mad here 😊

But the difference between me and you is where we live, i live in a 3rd world country, isolated, hard to get out of, difficult to make money here. I'm new to leathercraft it's been a year since i started. I don't tool leather cause i'm bad with drawing. So, i just subbed and i feel like i might be out of place for my opinion because most dont care. I hear alot of my past struggles and opinions in your testimony. I quit Tattooing, airbrushing and illustration and digital design and felt the same way( now i do my own thing with leather and it is my own niche, i dont really care about and think about what everyone else is doing because i only do what i want. If someone likes it cool. No one cares anyway so why wait for them. Put yourself first. If you want to go do a reboot just take a deep breath and shrug your shoulders dude. Whatever you decide is cool. It's not going to leave your history of who you are if you stop for a while. Art is art. Doesn't matter what medium you choose. Just one thing, you are not wrong. You seem like a chill guy. If your people make you feel like your wrong and dont fit in they are not your people. I walked away from everyone and everything as soon as i realized i was not getting any support and love. Not even my wife cares enough to encourage me in doing anything i dream. I dont care at all anymore. I can not make them see the truth or intent of my struggles and no one walked with me on my journey. I will never let anyone say shit to me anymore. One life one love. If they arent down then they cant be there when i get to where i told them I'd be going all those years ago. Be true to that and let your heart guide you. No matter, you are talented and worth alot more than any one's opinion. When your doing good most people will knock you down to feel better about themselves. Dont give them an audience. Take the power away. We are artists that use one of the worlds oldest mediums, if anything we need something new to grow. Most of leather working is redundant and tired. Im not doing what everyone else is just out of boredom. Let them talk.

Brother you do awesome art and seem a really cool and smart dude. You do fit in with the many who don't fit into the places we found ourselves. Do your things that make you happiest and ignore the conformity crowd. We have different cultures and personalities.

Best of luck to you whatever you decide to pursue. Try and take the good things you learned and experienced with you, and try and leave as much as possible of the negative stuff behind. You will draw on your business experience in the future in ways you might not realize. May not seem so to you, but you are quite young and there will be plenty challenges and successes for you in the future. Buddhists embrace the idea that the past cannot hurt you. While I dont completely agree with this, you have demonstrated that you have learned from your past and adjusted. Many, many people cannot or will not go through that process. Just saying you have a lot of promise and capability. There are plenty of people that you definitely could fit in with, just because you are not around them now doesnt mean they dont exist.
Just also pointing out that you fit in with 3.54K people to a degree that they subscribed to your channel.

    Hey mate ... just my 2 bob's worth ...
We humans are creatures of habit & tend to accumulate lots of emotional baggage as we attempt to navigate life ... which brings about the need to de-clutter as a matter of periodic maintenance when it starts to feel heavy ... as always ... what do we keep & what do we get rid of ... obvious answer is getting rid of the stuff that is no longer relevant in our lives & or has become a burden ... some things are hard to let go of ... but a practical culling is needed in order to move forward ... simplicity is the key word ... being an individual is unique & requires no permit to fit in anywhere ... I've never thought of having a destination ... I've just always created my journey & where I end up is anyone's guess ... expectation is a dirty word in my books ... setting one's self up for a fall ... be kind to yourself & embrace the journey that lay ahead ...
That aside ... you are a very talented & creative individual no matter what you turn your hand to ...
    Cheers mate ...

Good thing that fitting in with the leather crafting…”community”isn’t what pays your bills and doing stuff like they do it would be boring as hell. There are enough people carving the same ol old-man Sheridan flowers n crap. I was ready to take all my stamps off my bench n throw them in a drawer…or throw them away just out of frustration because I can’t draw to save my ass. I And it gets frustrating and I don’t do well with things that I don’t do well… I’m about as far at the other end of the “artist spectrum” from you as could be. I showed a friend of mine something I’d just finished up making one day and she called me an artist. I laughed at her and said no, I’m a lot of things, but artist isn’t one of them. She told me to shut up and to look at this piece she’s holding in her hand….she said, “look at it, this used to be the skin off a big ol dead cow…but it’s not that anymore….it’s beautiful…and you made it beautiful… out of a cow’s ass cheek. You’re an artist.” she says again. Well, you’re a cantaloupe… (nvm, shout out to Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken). So I kind of started looking at things a little differently. But I was still frustrated and bored with carving that I don’t like and can’t do well. When I came across your channel, the departure from the same ol crap everybody does was enough to not give up on it. It reminds me of traditional tattoos. And tattoos are cool, unlike the same ol flowers and weird swirly things. So I haven’t given up yet. Thanks.
And btw, feeling like you don’t fit in at 30 ain’t nothing…wait till you look up one day and realize that somehow you’re 50 already and you still don’t fit in, or know where your place in the universe is supposed to be… But it’s not that bad because you don’t really give a damn anymore when you’re 50. Lol!

There is a "void" in the middle of us all that cannot be filled with ANYTHING but what is meant to be there......God. People try to fill this hole with everything imaginable - cars, houses, hobbies, jobs, travel, sports, food, drugs, alcohol, pornography, politics, etc., etc., etc. Pick your poison. Really what we are all searching for is peace, joy and belonging. You know peace and joy are missing when thoughts of suicide enter into your mind. The reason people do this to themselves is because they are either unaware or unwilling to fill this void with what is supposed to be there. It is like trying to fit the round or square peg into a star shaped hole. Only the star shaped peg is meant to be there. Most everything we do on this earth is just that......earthly or worldly. The majority of the things we do on a day to day basis won't make us feel whole and happy until we find our purpose and direction. I would encourage you to explore the simple truths of the life of Christ and mimic Him. He is the ONLY source of peace and joy. When you feel like crap, go serve someone else. Works EVERY time. You will quickly find belonging. Give it a shot, what do you have to loose? Christ served EVERYONE. Not just His people......EVERYONE. Turns out his own people killed Him. He understands what it means to not belong. I struggle with bi-polar issues and thought it would be much easier if I were gone. Truth is, that's a lie. Sorry for the long winded sermon. I'm sure I will get blasted for it. If so.....I'm ok with it. There are a lot of people who struggle with the Truth.

Bro hear me out. I just came across ur video and unfortunately it was ur last video as a leathercrafter but it doesnt have to be. Im in no position to judge or handbout advice. But just humour my comment for the hell of it. Go premium. Dont work for pennies. Keep crafting but at YOUR PACE and COMFORT AND PEACE OF MIND. charge $1000 dollars for a tiny card holder and you will realize there are people who will still pay who care for and recognize real talent. Which you OBVIOUSLY have an abundance of. You're an artist. Treat urself like an artist and ur art....and others will do too.

You seem to be a very honest individual and very open. If you want peace in your life. It can only be found through Jesus Christ..
    Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭NLT‬‬
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

Slightly off subject but maybe I came across somebody who actually knows. Would you happen to know any information about reclaiming leather off things like furniture. My idea is to cut the leather off these couches. I see out on the curb every single day in my area, clean it and buff it and resell it in square foot sheets...... I've been trying to find information on this and quite honestly it's not been very easy to find any good information on if that's a good idea or not..... I can see reasons it might not be. But in some cases you're talking like 1500 per couch for reselling that leather if it is indeed resellable and reusable. Some of it may not be. But some of it is.
So what are your thoughts on trying to do something like that and if it's worth it at all? Keep in mind they're really is a leather couch every single day, many of them actually, but we'll just say one every single day on the side of the curb I have access to.

Have you thought about using your craft to glorify Jesus? The things you are suffering from are things that we as people have been struggling with since the fall of man. I struggled with all these things too. Then Jesus came and turned my world upside down. I thought I could overcome these problems of the world by learning from people around the world who also have these problems. But the truth is 1john 5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God. I'll be praying for you.
