Our local police department says they are encrypted. However I would like to have a scanner not only to use locally but as we travel in our RV. Do you have a recommendation?

Like my sds100 but hate how the volume is blasting out on one end of conversation and the other end is extremely low in some instances.
I came in late to the show so I couldn't comment live, but I was surprised to find out that my TRX-1 couldn't do NXDN trunking. I guess nobody told the radio either since it has been working my local NXDN trunked system without a problem for several years now. 😂
I'll never pay that much. But let me know if the s d s one hundred actually has full lower mid sound, plz ty

Question: NC is on a Viper cell phone trunking set up. In different zones... ( Kenwood TK 5410 portable is a radio compatible with the new phase)...
Will this radio pick up sheriff & city police or do I have to have the radio submitted to their network using a key code????
Just asking because they're running off cell phone frequency and all scanners are set up not to pick them up....
But : how do I get the same radio they use and listen in on a transceiver?????

Ive got the SDS100 i use with a Vent mount in the car, works great. I have a HP0-2 on my nightstand by the bed, works great,
I am a baby to all of this, brand new. I need advice on what to get. I like to listen to police, ems, choppers here in Fairfield Township. I also attend Indy 500 every year and would like to hear the crews and drivers. That's basically all I want. Handheld. Bluetooth for headphones so not everyone has to hear it. I just don't understand digital vs analog...phase 1 phase 2...trunking...HELP!!!

Can you answer this question in a future show? When sending a update on Sentinel software back to the SDS 200 scanner, do you check one box to erase the existing Favorite Lists and the box to transfer updated Lists from the software or just the one box for transfer from software. When I check only the transfer box, I get more questions which I don't understand. If I check both boxes, I erase the settings I have put into the scanner directly from the scanner controls.
I wouldn’t erase the existing favorites lists unless you really want to. I will do another Sentinel show again soon.

I live by OHare airport in 60056 Mt Prospect, IL Keep it simple - I want a scanner just to hear local activity for fun. I ordered Uniden BC125AT. Bought it from Amazon. Will I be able to listen to Police activity?????? I can't see spending > $400 for digital scanners. Help me please.

What good is a scanner if everything is encrypted?
The only hope for scanners for encryption is if proposed legislation to require PD dispatch channels to be in the clear, gets traction and passes.
@@3henry214 I live in the Washington DC area. Metropolitan Police U.S Capitol Police Metro Transit Va. State Police all encrypted.

Great show Jonathan thank you so much for doing the show. I am sticking with Whistler and hoping they come up with some new upgrades and products soon sooner rather than later, and I would hope that Uniden and Whistler would come up with a radio that would have voice modulation on it and voice prompts for visually impaired users as they do on baofang and expensive radios. I wonder if you can do that with a inexpensive handheld HTY not with a expensive mobile or portable, handheld scanner inquiring minds want to know. As for the prices, I wonder if this trend to more and more encryption continues with uniden and Whistler lower their prices because why buy a expensive scanner that does trunking and you can’t pick up anything because of his foolish encryption anyway, thanks again Jonathan for doing this show.
The Big-E has really limited my scanner listening. I've loved listening to law enforcement since I was a kid. Unfortunately, there's not much for me to listen to in my area. I have to admit though the new scanners have some really cool features. However, I can't justify spending so much money on a new scanner that doesn't let me listen to what I want to hear. 😞
@@crayh5o exactly the way I feel too much big E out there and why spend $600 plus on the scanner that can’t pick up big E so they should lower the prices on the scanners well, fortunately we have a good pretty good mix of Trump and conventional frequencies out here in the Bay Area would just stay small percentage with full encryption, but hopefully senate bill 1000 will gain some traction and get past out here to limit full-time encryption just Gotta keep hoping

Our service in the U.K. is encrypted so no device will work. There is a back door through their encryption but only the service provider will know how to use it in case of system failure or unlikely hack. I think it was in 1996 that all emergency services, military and government entities that communicate via radio. Our system is like a hybrid between a mobile phone and a radio, with an encryption key. No more public spying on Big Brother anymore. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Programmable software is not an advantage if you own a Mac. It pays emphasize that.

Whisler ws1040 sucks I have one it's not very loud and I can barely pic up anything and don't really charge batterys I have it program for the type of rechargeable battery and the battery is almost new
Hour + long video, time stamps would be nice.
Does sds 100 need DMR unlocked to get foreign or American shortwave radio stations? Would the Eton elite 750 be better for shortwave?
Yes. It will not decode ANY dmr without the dmr key purchased

@@stevek4449 no not for shortwave itself no. Dmr is only for digital mobile radio. Which is like Mototrbo. All analog frequencies can be listened into without any paid upgrades.
@Yourdonefor aahh very helpful thanks. Was wondering as manual says 25.9999mhz was I think the bottom end but seems shortwave seems In lower kHz range. That's why I thought DMR could go down that range. Might need eton for that then? Anyway can still get lots of use with the sds 100 otherwise so no loss it seemd.

I HAD A GREAT OLD REALISTIC SCANNER. BUT NOW I CAN NO LONGER LISTEN TO MY PD AND FD BECAUSE OF P25, AND BECAUSE THEY ARE SCRAMBLING THE SIGNAL. WILL THESE SCANNERS HELP?
P25 can usually be listened to on digital scanners. Digital encrypted unfortunately can’t be scanned.

Why do some people like to listen to railroad chatter? Honestly curious. My grandfather drove U.P. locomotives, but I can't imagine what's interesting about what they talk about on the radio.

If you want police action I suggest you just put a “Police scanner” app on your cell phone.
They’re FREE and they work great. You got the whole America’s police in your hands.
Love to hear cops in the Deep South. Louisiana, Texas. Also Chicago and New York.

Do not buy a uniden scanner if you enjoy good sound quality, clarity and volume. Using external speaker or amplification won't help. external speakers Make no difference when your processing equipment is a $1 Purchase by uniden.
One of the main compliments Motorola gets on there 2 way portable handheld radios. They're loud, clear, easy to understand.
The loud is necessary but not the most important of those. You're in a den cheaper scanners, at least, have none of these. And would you want to buy one? That's built a little better from the same company. When they don't have a clear warning that the cheaper ones are crap? thank you guys
