I found out Columbus right about when the pandemic began, and ordered the blu-ray. Watching it was a tipping point for me. Everything I looked at changed after it. Thanks for putting this appreciation together!

Max: I can't wait for a video dissecting Kagonada's work on the breathtaking PACHINKO. Your scholarship is impressive. That said, the world needs a more scholarly video essay on the underrated sophistication of the standout film of 2022, RRR.

i just watched after Yang and I was fascinated by the sense of place he created with color grading and environment. I’m very excited to watch pachinko which has been on my list a while and now columbus!

This was a really insightful and thoughtful review. You can see how Kogonada used his knowledge and practice of analyzing films to create a gentle masterpiece in Columbus. The scene of where he has John Cho and Haley Lu Richardson are talking in front of the bank when he gets her to open up about what really moved her about the bank, to me, was a subtle homage to when Ozu cuts to a vase. You don't get to hear what exactly they say in the next scene but as a viewer you don't need to hear it- you see them and know it's more meaningful than the "tour guide description" of the building she gives when you see their backs. Because sometimes what is important or meaningful can't always be seen or put into exact words.
Your channel deserves more subscribers. Keep up the amazing work.
