  • Yay, this video is finally out! This should have been out 5 days ago! Anyway, this is of my most recent trip to the SF MUNI metro. The five stations that are in this video are the only stations where all 6-7 lines transfer. They are Embarcadero, Montgomery, Powell, Civic Center, and Van Ness. Special sightings in this video were the Not in Service train with an "H" (which is not a line that exists), a K-line train with an F-Line rollsign, a T-line train with a rollsign scrolled to white, a T-line train with a broken destination rollsign, and a shuttle train.
    Something I want to note that I doubt you guys have noticed: I made the bullets for the MUNI trains in the thumbnail in Neue Haas Grotesk, because the rollsigns are in that font (like the NYC Subway). My ending screen have the bullets in Universe, because that's the font that the signs use in the MUNI.
    Another note, this was supposed to be uploaded four hours ago, but UA-cam was being broken :(

    I miss San Francisco! I love the Muni AND BART! Next time I'm in The City I'm gonna video riding on each line!!

    Oh man, it's so weird to remember this era when Muni ran single-car trains in the Market Street subway. It was wasteful as hell and caused constant subway backups.

      I'm not from San Francisco, so don't mind me if this question is stupid, but are MUNI stations outside of the downtown core (for instance the ones on the outskirts of Judah Street) even long enough multiple car trains?

    • @MrEricSir
      @MrEricSir 2 роки тому +1

      @@Absolute_Zero7 All lines support two car trains at least with the exception of the J-Church, which has very limited space and can only run one car trains. The T line, which is the newest may be able to support longer trains.

      @@Absolute_Zero7 6 months late but I have some info. Current subway stations support up to 4-car trains but as of now only have 2-car trains running through. That's because the above-ground lightrail stations that funnel in and out of the subway only support 2 cars. The new central subway extensions line yet to be opened (8 years in the making), only supports 2-car trains but that's likely because the T line runs above ground for most of its journey. The M line is being considered for a brand new subway that would be fully underground the entire route. That would then allow the M line to be the first line to run 4-car trains.

      @@anthonysnyder1152 One other thing to mention is that there are three-car S Shuttle Muni Metro trains that do run in the Market street subway. These only run from Embarcadero to West Portal, strictly in the subway with no street running. Those could technically be upgraded to four cars. But this is expensive and not considered a priority due to sufficient capacity on the S Shuttle. There are also rumblings about blocking some select intersections to make three-car trains possible on a couple more lines, but those are very early conversations. They will also no doubt encounter a ton of "neighborhood opposition" due to some street closures.
      Also, the Central Subway does technically have enough room for three car trains in some distant future. This would be a pretty tight fit (the first and last doors will only have a pretty narrow strip of platform). Again, this is technically possible, but not considered a priority currently. It would also require broader street reconfigurations elsewhere on the T. The T isn't even remotely close to carrying enough riders to even overcome its current capacity. So this would only become a concern a decade or two from now and after they max out the T's frequency.

    3:14 H Wtf. There was no H Line on muni at all. Maybe in the 1930's but why do the bredas have them as a roll sign???

    • @SomeTrainEnthusiast
      @SomeTrainEnthusiast  6 років тому +2

      That was an LCD, not a rollsign. I'm guessing that they have the whole alphabet in the program, and that something triggered when was taken out of service, causing an H to show up.

    Why do trains share a rollsign car and a digital display?

    • @SomeTrainEnthusiast
      @SomeTrainEnthusiast  6 років тому +1

      I have no clue. For whatever reason, the amount of LCDs to Rollsigns seems to be 1:1, and they're completely randomly distributed.
