Yeah, exactly. It was _going to be_ a Gamecube exclusive, part of the Capcom 5. I myself originally played it on PS2 back in the day, but back when I was collecting for Gamecube, I wanted to collect the entire Capcom 4 on Gamecube (since #5, Dead Phoenix, never released). The only one of the bunch that remained exclusive to GC in the end was P.N. 03 I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to collect Killer 7 on Gamecube with that mindset, and that's probably why it commands a higher price. I’ve cashed in on a couple of 3rd party GameCube games thanks to these videos. As much as I love the GameCube, I don’t have a problem playing those games on the PS2. Thanks!
I think the amount of copies of each game out there was a major factor in the lower prices on ps2 since the install base on the system was enormous compared to gamecube

You guys forgot to add the Dreamcast as part of the 6th generation. It shared a bunch of games with those consoles. All 4 consoles even had capcom vs snk 2 as well
Oh we didn't forget. We talk briefly about the Dreamcast in the video prior to this one and said that these videos were going to focus on the big 3 from Gen 6. Huge Dreamcast fans btw. Cheers!
Great video as always! I’ll have show my appreciation to the HD Retrovision cables for the ps2. I retro game on a crt and I was blown away. I think if you have the official ps2 or monster component cables you’re set, but if you’re looking for cables currently being made they’re highly recommended!
One thing I look for is if the GC version supports progressive scan. I'd rather have that version for use on modern TVs. If the GC version isn't progressive scan I get it on PS2.
I also highly reccomend HD Retrovision Component cables for PS2 or any console for that matter. Definitely the best currently produced option and I would dare to say better than the Sony or Monster cables. If you already have high quality cables then I wouldn't worry, but if you need any component cables in the future I'd definitely reccomend them.
Beyond Good and Evil is the game that made me stop collecting GameCube only and collect (save) on PS2. After that, collecting PS2 was so much easier. Great video as always guys
Well they are a bunch of ps2 consoles and games out there in the wild thats why they are so cheap and easy to find. If anything people are trying to get rid of them. After all, they are 140 million ps2's out there in the world compared to 21 million Gamecubes.
I honestly feel Killer 7 is preferable on GameCube due to the controller working well with the oddball control scheme of the game. But price difference certainly makes that very negligible.
I kind of get Killer 7. It's the first version of the first Suda51 game. The guy who brought us No More Heroes, Shadows of the Damned and Lollipop Chainsaw among others. So that one being pricey I almost get as most of his games are pricey on every system with the PS2 version of Killer 7 being an exception which just confuses me why that one is so much cheaper than every version of every Suda51 game.
I had 3 ps2s growing up, 2 ps2 fats and 1 ps2 slim. All 3 of them stopped working and just recently my ps2 slim died. I had the GameCube since 2001 and still play it today, the GameCube never failed me. . To me the GameCube is much more reliable and that’s why I prefer getting the GC version of games

Great video as always! I love the subtle wrestling references too!Perhaps a 3rd installment of PS2 vs Xbox?!? There are some that go each way where one is more expensive than the other. Cheers
I prefer GameCube Nintendo titles over most cross-platform games, because of the short load times, me wanting consistency, usually, the GCN version has the superior graphics/frame rate, I love those small, hard-to-scratch disc used for the Cube, and I like the controller better minus the extremely small d-pad and the lack of a ZL button. I have a health collection of games for the GCN, PS2, and XBOX, so I am good on my collection…mostly.
GameCube games in general are rapidly increasing in value more than their Xbox and PS2 counterparts. Simpsons Hit And Run is definitely a prime example of this as I have found PS2 version for £1 in one of my local charity shops before (and the PC version for 50p a few weeks back). I tend to stick with Mario, Zelda, Pokemon and other Nintendo exclusive games for GameCube but I will pick up others for the correct price.
may be wrong but i think gamecube also supports progressive scan better which results in a better image. Have you guys tried xbox games that are 720p capable? even their progressive scan games are sooo much better than the other consoles.
An advance congrats on the impending 15k subs boys. Well earned and about damn time! Also checked some of the price differences on my PAL region versions and sometimes the price difference is even worse. Still, I need to get a Gamecube to complete my console collection but these prices... Damn.
I think the completionists are really raising the prices for GC. Smaller print runs for a lot of titles doesn't help either. There are exclusive titles that aren't great and still commanding high prices.
This video is uncanny for me: I recently bought NHL Hitz 2003 because of your recent GameCube video, however, when I saw that the PS2 version was less than a dollar, I knew it wasn’t worth paying over $10 for the GameCube one. So glad I was right!
It is wild for sure. We love this entire generation but totally on the same page as you. You will enjoy Hitz just as much on the PS2. We've played the hell out of it on both consoles. Great either way. Cheers!
I can vouch for Simpsons Hit and Run, I have played both versions recently and there's definitely not enough difference to pay that price of the GC release.
Before Surge was re-released a few years back people were paying $100 for a can of it from 2000/2001 .....and they lived. You'll be fine with the juice box, and if not I'll send flowers
A possible contributing factor With Killer 7 could be that it was initlally meant to be a Gamecube exclusive. As with Resient Evil 4 amd a few others games, Capcom first announced it and developed it soley for GC. But since they wanted to actually make money, Capcom later chose to port the games to the vastly more successful PS2. I could see some collectors wanting to own those titles for the format they were originally intended for. Be that as it may, I fully agree with you that it is rather silly to pay drastically more for what is essentially the exact same game.
Lots of 3rd party games ran better on GameCube & in 480p, the list of 480p compatible titles on PS2 is minuscule compared to the GameCube. The GameCube also sold way less than PS2 so the games are ostensibly rarer. Another factor is it’s really easy to play GameCube games with an HDMI adapter & along with the 480p they look super clean on modern TV’s, unless you have a scaler like the Tink5X or OSSC the PS2 is always going to look worse.
It's more copies of ps2 games Also on serious Sam Two players can complete the campaign cooperatively in a local split-screen mode. There are three versus modes: "Deathmatch", "Pass the Bomb", and "Hold the Flag". On the PlayStation 2, these can be played one-on-one in split-screen or with up to eight players online, while up to four local players can compete via split-screen on the GameCube. 4player split screen gc
That has some impact but I think there’s a large nostalgia factor at work as well. PS2 outsold the XBOX by a mile but has a ton of games that are a lot more expensive than the Xbox versions. I think nostalgia drives the market and Nintendo die hards lead the way, then Sony fans then Microsoft. Is but it’s fun stuff to discuss. Cheers!
Personally the GameCube is just so much more highly sought after BY FAR. PS2 is similiar to how your Grandma had a Wii. Your sister that didn’t even play video games bought a PS2 for the DVD player and five games, and those people aren’t into collecting. And still today, Nintendo products are highly more sought after. Especially with that generation, how many collectors want or are going for a whole collection? Now how many are going for that with the PS2? Supply and demand still working itself out with 20 year old products.
Love your videos. Would you make videos with the topic which games run better on PS2 (vs. XBox) and better on PS3 (vs. XBox 360)? Would be interesting.
I got The Simpson's Hit & Run for my Wii for 13 bucks at a flea market. And a fun fact that Killer 7 was made by the same people who made No More Heroes. And if you're ever in my neck of the woods you can come on by and we'll knock out that Zatch Bell game because I have it for the PlayStation 2
Hey Wes! I'd be interested in checking out your Ebay store. It could be another way of supporting the channel :) How can I find it? Lol at the juice segment
Didn’t expect to see a sequel to the xbox vs gamecube prices video Anyway I already wrote in the previous video my opinion so i got a suggestion for you guys. How about a video comparing ps2/gamecube/xbox prices but comparing pal versions vs ntsc-u versions? I know a lot of Americans really hate pal releases but most of the 6th gan games in pal countries but some games have an option to select the game to run on 60hz than the 50hz that everyone hates. Also here my suggestions: Futurama (ps2 pal) is cheaper than the ntsc-u version. Persona 3 fes (ps2 ntsc-u) is cheaper than the pal version Mario strikers (gamecube pal) is cheaper than the ntsc-u version Castlevania Curse Of Darkness (og xbox ntsc-u) is cheaper than the pal version.
The only reason for getting the GameCube is if you are a complete set collector, or possibly you could argue that if you wanted to resell it later it may be a safer flip.
We love the Game Cube but try to stick mostly to exclusive titles for it due to the insane prices. We love every console from gen 6. Good times. Cheers!
Some reasons are every body and there dog had a PS2 back then. Also you have to consider that a Wii plays GameCube games and can upgrade the graphics a little. I bought a GameCube at launch lol. GameCube will always be more rare to find a game you want compared to PS2. Good vid!
Ya there is definitely some supply and demand going on for sure. But where things get interesting is comparing the PS2 and OG XBox. XBox sold relatively close to the Game Cube and far less than the PS2. Yet PS2 games tends to be more expensive (Video coming soon). So it really has us thinking that the strongest factor is nostalgia. Nintendo reigns supreme in the nostalgia category. It seems the PS2 second and XBox 3rd as far as nostalgia goes. The pricing in Gen 6 is very interesting across the board. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
People are getting back into retro gaming since the RetroTINK-5X came out. Nintendo owners are kinda more faithful when it comes to Nintendo consoles. So, any copies on "ANY" Nintendo consoles version is going to be higher than other consoles.
If they ever make the PS5 backwards compatible with PS2 disks (which is possible) you can except a general rise in all PS2 game prices and in 50 years likely cost more than gamecube games. But than again, with Jim Ryan in charge of Sony, that probably wont happen. I would literally pay $1000 scalpers prices for a PS5 with full PS1-5 backwards compatibility. It would be a dream come true.
@@diegokasady Yeah, I have the PS3 that uses software emulation to play PS2 games. Only half of PS2 games work well...the other's lag or don't play at all. I could splurge on the early PS3 model that has a built in PS2 but with the continual repairs you would need to do with heat-sinc gel and hardrive and optical disk reader replacements its just too expensive and a headache. It's cheaper and easier to just use an original PS2. But give me a fresh PS5 with backwards compatibility and I'd be willing to pay. I think there is more of a market for BC PS5's than Sony thinks there is. Sony's excuse is that "it's a much requested feature that nobody uses". My reply: So what?! People would buy it. People buy things all the time that they "don't use".
Reminds me of time splitter games on GameCube. I’m sure they are more expensive than ps2 or Xbox but control is terrible playing those on a GameCube. The aiming on a c stick is way to sensitive
Ive only got the games exclusive to Gamecube. All the multiplats I have for Xbox and some doubled up on PS2. Most of them I got for a couple of bucks. Its just not worth having them on the Gamecube as well.
The reason why gamecube and its games are more expensive than ps2 is because of the name, Nintendo. Nintendo. will always be more valuable and rare than any console. Lets also not forget another major factor is that they aren't many gamecube consoles and games out there. The Cube only sold 21 million worldwide so logically the rarer the system the more of a price hike and the more common the cheaper it'll be
Definitely both things you mention are huge contributing factors indeed. The XBox and Game Cube comparison video we did is a little more unique due to the similar install base for each console. Gen 6 market is very interesting to say the least.
Nintendo as a name brand might be why, but Xbox did outsell the Gamecube, not by much though. Great effort by MS as it was their first gaming console and outsold the mighty pioneer Nintendo.
@@hepwo91222 very true sir, Nintendo was in their feelings that Gen. They were frustrsted and thats when they shift their whole marketing with the wii and they got lucky and sold sime consoles but at a cost to their image and quality when it use to be the opposite. If they had made the wii HD or at least on par between the 360 and ps3 it wouldve sold way more than 100. Still though, the gamecube was an amazing system with very good games and was Nintendo's last Hardcore system. They made some mistskes with the Cube that cost them. We're living in age now where u dont need a blueray player to sell consoles. It would be nice if the old farts at Nintendo made way for some younger bloods with forward thinking decisions and make a powerful console evwryone likes so they can get the sane games other consoles are getting
@@redcrimson1028 Nintendo up until the Wii was always focused on making somewhat powerful or cutting edge consoles. NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube were all somewhat impressive hardware wise when they launched. Wii, Wii U, Switch not so much. Although with the Switch they had good reason as its a hybrid console. I guess Sony and MS continue with the powerful gaming consolearms race where Nintendo kind of gave up on that after the Gamecube. Gamecube was a beast in its day.
I have the Xbox n ps2 and I’ve been picking the cheapest of the two games wise. My wii I got can play game cube games but I don’t own any cuz in the uk there way out of my budget. Great video thanks 😊
With all going on would you guys consider helping some(me) or others that want to live off grid also? I believe in living self sufficiently while enjoying every amenity one would choose
What was said about the out of the box standard PS2 output is true, but back in the day thats how I played it and out of the box, I feel Gamecube looked usually as good sometimes even better than Xbox and almost always better than PS2. But I never saw them with better composite outputs you had to pay for to add on. Gamecube was a beast with its custom made hardware. I agree with this video though, many games I am not paying $40-80 more for a Gamecube version of anything
These series are weird because the reason the value is so much higher has nothing to do with how it plays but rather supply and demand. You can find the games for ps2 a lot more commonly than the gamecube counterpart.
Try playing Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex on PS2, those loading times are the drizzlin shitz! Possibly the worst ever. On XBOX it’s so much better, not sure about the GC version. But whatever those versions cost it’s worth it! Another great video guys!
It doesn't even have to do with performence, PS2 was the worse in image quality on all this generation, most of the games won't run in progressive mode, and even worsen, in Europe they were so lazy we were stuck at 50Hz. If I have a choose, I'll take any other console (Dreamcast, Xbox, Gamecube) over PS2, were most of the games can output 480p 60Hz.
yeah, Gamecube games usually looked noticeable better on standard outputs on CRTV. I wasn't about which would look better it would be how much better would the Gamecube look over the PS2 version. It often wasn't close.
@@quibquatch3975 I think they were downplaying how good gamecube looked next to PS2 back in the day. It usually wasn't close. ALso Gamecube games often looked as good sometimes even better than the Xbox. I would agree, I don't think paying through the nose for the same game is worth it, but Gamecube versions of games almost always looked and played better than PS2, I mean RE4 was just embarassing.
@@hepwo91222 Sure, the Gamecube looks better. So what. I would think anyone who is actually having fun with the game would care less either way, unless it looks like total shit it's really distracting or something. I mean let's be real here, most people (with too much money to blow) nowadays buy retro games to get off on the feeling of virgin lair mega dork elitist superiority for simply owning the Gamecube version vs. other ports. Gamecube is the game collector hotness right now, and paying hundreds to thousands of dollars for the bottom line of showing off fucking *video games* to other dungeon masters on Reddit or UA-cam etc. is obviously worth all that money. I bet they're getting so much tail with showing off their collection bro! I swear now it has as little to do with actually playing the game, and has to do with every other shitty shallow reason instead. When money is involved it ruins everything.
@@quibquatch3975 I never understood why the PS2 was the most popular? It had the biggest library of the time and was the first to have a DVD player in a gaming console, but I always thought its exclusives that gen were easily the weakest and the games usually looked nowhere near as good as XBox or Gamecube.
I’ve been enjoying the cheaper games and extra power of the XBOX. I assume Gamecube prices have something to do with more people must have these games as Nintendo collectors tend to collect more complete libraries than the other systems. There is less games on GC than PS2 to collect also. More achievable to get all the good GC games than all the good PS2 games. Therefore the demand is higher and prices are higher. Hitz Pro and Wayne Gretzky 3D Hockey 98 best hockey games ever. Smokes NHL 94 imo. Brick wall nets in WG 98 is is so fun when it blocks your couch coop buddy. 98 fixed some of the easy scoring glitch and balance issues of the original.
Some GameCube players are to crazy like true crime New York City and the need for speed games and auto modelista is slightly better so ps2 has beat GameCubes in multiplates before but everyone acts like GameCube is 10 times power and is a generation more power. It’s hilarious how much people I’ve seen like this also the ps2 tmnt 2003 game even beat the Xbox version which is very very rare. Also I think people act like this to ps2 because it’s the highest selling console and PlayStation 2 had a ton of underrated masterpieces but because Sony targeted normies as well many great games got overshadowed even the games that is well known today on ps2 used to be really underrated like shadow of the colossus had less sales then shrek 2
LoL I have like two full packs of Ecto Cooler juice boxes, and two packs of the cans of it. Might be something like 24 cans per pack. I have a metric ton of SURGE. I also have a handful of 20oz Crystal Pepsis. Expired SURGE is still good, I don't think I'd drink the Ecto Cooler lol. The Crystal Pepsi is awful expired. Have to ask, where did you get the Ecto Coolest though? Locally?
Partially but......one would think the XBOX would be stupid expensive. Similar install base as the Cube and like you mention performs the best in most cases. It's fascinating stuff. Thanks for watching. Cheers!

Get the Gamecube for the Nintendo exclusives, some really good ones on there, 3rd party cross platform is too expensive get some other console version.
PS2 is just a lower quality system. I remember watching my friend play Splinter Cell on his Xbox and when it released on PS2 and I could play it at home, it was not nearly as good. If you just want to play for cheap on real hardware, then I get it... but meh. I will always play Resident Evil: Code Veronica on Dreamcast, for example, where it belongs. I actually just purchased the original RE2 on the DC as well, even though I had it on the PSX and the Nintendo versions are half the price. Better graphics, 60 FPS, the VMU screen, it's just the best version imo... and that's a game that *matters* to me in my game collection, so it's worth the cash.
Has anyone else notice that the silent hill games well 2 and 4 on the ps2 are more expensive Thant the XBOX versions despite the fact the XBOX versions are far superior than the underpowered ps2
Some of the games that have 4 player multiplayer can maybe be justified, in a case you own 4 gamecube controllers and not 4 ps2 controllers with a multitap.

Before Surge was re-released a few years back people were paying $100 for a can of it from 2000/2001 .....and they lived. You'll be fine with the juice box, and if not I'll send flowers
I got Simpsons Hit and Run on the gamecube with GameCube for 15 bucks at a yard sale! Thanks your video made me feel lucky.
That was a good deal just for the GameCube alone
@@redcrimson1028 It also came with wave bird, 5 games and its a ditgal out too. My wife saw it so really it's on her..I love her a lot.
Hell ya dude! That is a killer deal for sure. Well done. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid Thanks!
Wes, you're nuts.....Robert, you need a pony tail. Great stuff....
We love you guys
A possible contributing factor With Killer 7 could be that it was initlally meant to be a Gamecube exclusive. As with Resient Evil 4 amd a few others games, Capcom first announced it and developed it soley for GC. But since they wanted to actually make money, Capcom later chose to port the games to the vastly more successful PS2. I could see some collectors wanting to own those titles for the format they were originally intended for. Be that as it may, I fully agree with you that it is rather silly to pay drastically more for what is essentially the exact same game.
Great video guys. Surely this must just come down to supply and demand.
It's more copies of ps2 games
Also on serious Sam
Two players can complete the campaign cooperatively in a local split-screen mode.
Where can i order some of that Ecto goodness to be delivered?
I'm not sure about that. It's from a small brewery in Iowa called "Barn Town Brewing." Most of their stuff is limited runs unfortunately. Cheers!
Love the vids guys
I got The Simpson's Hit & Run for my Wii for 13 bucks at a flea market. And a fun fact that Killer 7 was made by the same people who made No More Heroes. And if you're ever in my neck of the woods you can come on by and we'll knock out that Zatch Bell game because I have it for the PlayStation 2
GameCube game pricing is just absolutely ridiculous to be honest
The GameCube emblem on the game adds like $50 minimum
Hey Wes! I'd be interested in checking out your Ebay store. It could be another way of supporting the channel :) How can I find it?
Lol at the juice segment

Do you think the Wii version of Call of Duty is going to be more expensive than the PS3/Xbox 360 versions?? That would be hilarious! 😋
Still rocking my Monster PS2 cables. Not sure about that beer, though. Cheers!
Didn’t expect to see a sequel to the xbox vs gamecube prices video
Anyway I already wrote in the previous video my opinion so i got a suggestion for you guys.
Also here my suggestions:
Futurama (ps2 pal) is cheaper than the ntsc-u version.
Persona 3 fes (ps2 ntsc-u) is cheaper than the pal version
Mario strikers (gamecube pal) is cheaper than the ntsc-u version
Castlevania Curse Of Darkness (og xbox ntsc-u) is cheaper than the pal version.
Love the channel! And since when did the hell did killer 7 exist on the Ps2????
Thanks a ton! I totally know where you are coming from. I always thought it was a Game Cube exclusive until recently. Cheers!
The HD Retrovision cable for PS2/PS3 is a great option because it’s cheap. I use them for my PS2 with my Retrotink.
The only reason for getting the GameCube is if you are a complete set collector, or possibly you could argue that if you wanted to resell it later it may be a safer flip.
The only reason for me is that it was a great console with some very good and interesting games.
Cheers!
Good for me as i rather have them on the Ps2 so i can play them on my oled tv via my ps3 that’s backwards compatible. Plus it upscales the games ++
Glad I still got my CIB copy of hit and run for the GameCube I bought like 4 years ago for like $13 lol
These videos are awesome! I need that ecto coolest in my life.
Thanks a ton! Very interesting beer for sure. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid shame to hear it's more of a wine-cooler.
People are getting back into retro gaming since the RetroTINK-5X came out. Nintendo owners are kinda more faithful when it comes to Nintendo consoles. So, any copies on "ANY" Nintendo consoles version is going to be higher than other consoles.
Yup, sure is. A poor frame rate completely ruins any game- for my-self at least.
Love these videos, has made me a smarter ebayer but even without watching this video first I always avoided buying third party games on the GameCube
Get the og ps3 that plays all 3 I use it everyday
@@antiquecardboard just enjoy the machine I’m gonna buy like three more backups put a 500gb hard drive in and ur good! Just keep it nice and cool
Low install base with Nintendo name. That pretty much sums it up
For sure. We understand why it's like that but what we don't understand is why folks are willing to pay the difference lol. Cheers!
DOES AUTO MODELISTA HAVE PROGRESSIVE SCAN O THE GAMECUBE? 🤔
@@hepwo91222 i said that already smh
Oh man, I was a huge Digimon mark but never knew about this game. I’m all about a Digimon smash game, even if it’s probably not that great
I don't know but its seems like Wes just wake up
I actually bought Simpsons hit and run on the ps2 because it was so much cheaper. Its getting to the point that the price difference is too much.
It doesn't even have to do with performence, PS2 was the worse in image quality on all this generation,
most of the games won't run in progressive mode, and even worsen, in Europe they were so lazy we were stuck at 50Hz.
480i vs. 480p, wow bro, totally worth THOUSANDS of dollars for the exact same games.
I learned today that Killer 7 is on Ps2.
Same goes for the PS3 vs the 360

Hell ya! Much appreciated dude. Cheers!

Shhhhh.....We have 2 more of these filmed. Don't let the cat out of the bag :). Cheers!
Where do we buy this beer?
GameCube sold 30m units ps2 sold 152m. For me that explains it. Xbox og out performs them both.
Partially but......one would think the XBOX would be stupid expensive. Similar install base as the Cube and like you mention performs the best in most cases. It's fascinating stuff. Thanks for watching. Cheers!

That's what the market goes by.

Thanks a ton man! Cheers!
You can change hats in alien hominid just don’t pick the same one and you should be okay
Or one can mod one's GameCube and pay zero for the games.
I own a PS2 and I own some of these games. Wow I knew that getting GC games was a bad idea
Get the Gamecube for the Nintendo exclusives, some really good ones on there, 3rd party cross platform is too expensive get some other console version.
wild since ps2 market hasn't been cheap either
Ya it's pretty crazy. The PS2 market is popping as well but not like the ol' Game Cube. Crazy times. Cheers!
Love the multitap for the PS2. Lots of great 4 player PS2 games that don't get a lot of love. The Smackdown games 4 player are so damn good. Cheers!
