    My experience with the R6 has been much like yours and I agree in every way. Since I'm shooting short 4k 24 and 60 video clips only I haven't had any overheating issues at all. Shooting birds and wildlife with the R6 and rf100-400mm daily I think it's the best value lightweight medium telephoto combo out there. Thanks for the info and happy shooting!

    Nice job! I got the R6 MK I for the low light abilities and have never been disappointed. Nor have my paying customers. (Also, I only mostly events and portraits.) As far as the 20 mp, I made a large poster for a client last week and he loved it! If you have an R6 MK I don't ever give it up.

    when i used to send slides to kodak for drum scans in the early 2000's, they would come back at a resolution and file size similar to 12mp or so. i've been using the 6d since it came out in 2013 and am upgrading to the r6 for the tech. with how people are today i rarely need to print anything heavily cropped.

    Awesome Video Mike, gone from 95% to 99% sure this will be my next and first full frame camera! i'm not a vloger (yet) so the video doesn't bother me. And like you although the 45mp of the r5 sounds good my computer and all the other gear just wouldnt keep up and would just slow me down in the end...20mp seems like a good sweet spot and your photos just confirm that you don't NEED higher MP.
    As always thank you for the great content Mike

    I love the capabilities of the R6.
    1. When filming in 4K IPB Light 30 or 60, do you see a difference in quality, dynamic range, or ease and ability to color grade?
    2. What the difference in size of recorded footage?
    3. How long have you recorded in 4K light, 30 or 60fps?
    TIA! 🙏🏻

    • @exogendesign4582
      @exogendesign4582 2 роки тому +2

      IPB Light is half the size of IPB, so if you got 1 gig of memory in a 1 minute 4k60 IPB you get 500mb with the IPB Light. Before I also worry about R6 video file size but turns out its nothing to worry about when they release iPB Lite.
      for 4k24p Light version I could go more than 1 hour of continous shooting but it would probably stop aroung 30 and I would probably change the battery. R6 Does overheat on slow cards. So get a faster cards, my r6 still gives me warning when shooting continuous with 4k60p since that's what I used the most on weddings, and in Neutral Profile not in Log since I still don't have a beefy machine that can do SDE with the Log Profile. In terms of quality and Autofocus I can say its out of this world and probably the most amazing thing about it. In Lowlight I could go around 25,600 and get a decen Result. Man You have no Idea how beast of a camera an R6 is. Overheating wise though it probably depends on how you shoot, but I do smart selection of shot so I never have this problem.

    Fun fact: you mentioned Canon R5, but the collor science of R6 is better, specially for skin tones, and the dynamic range is also better. In some reviews, they couldn't tell the difference between those two, even saying R5 had a sharper image in pictures that R6 was the winner, tho the difference is about 2, 1%. That's the point: the sharpness between those two can vary from 0,5% to 2%. In some cases, R6 wins. The autofocus, people say, R6 is also better. So, what is the point buying a R5?

    If your photos are printed on any large plane (a n y) - all you need is about 6 MP of resolution + an adequate range from the viewer to the image (at least 1 diagonal). Stop pixel peeping - it's not your camera who takes a photo - it's you who makes a photo.

    I’ve been shooting on the R6 for the past year for my run and gun automotive UA-cam channel. The only thing it’s missing for me is the inability to set custom video modes, having to dive deep into the menu for something as simple as 120FPS is so annoying.

    Mike, what’s your opinion on handheld shooting video (regarding stabilisation)? Do you think that the IBIS + RF stabilisation leading to 8 stops is enough to stabilise footage? Have you tested it? Do you have any video on this issue?

    • @MikeChudley
      @MikeChudley  2 роки тому +1

    I know in the video that you say that you wouldnt get the R5 because of the constants of your computer , Ive also seen that the R5 would need much better lenses to get the best out of it, mostly due to the higher megapixel count.Have you had any access to an R 5 to see a direct comparison on this with your R6 using say the kit lens?
    Plus would the R6 ii tempt you to change?
    I have neither of these cameras, but Im considering a move from an m6ii.

    Nice review. I really like my R6 as well and agree with everything you said here. It’s not my main camera for video so the overheating isn’t a massive issue for me but I hadn’t realised that the IPB Light codecs don’t overheat. Do you notice much of a difference using the light codecs? I guess they are more processor intensive to work with (I use proxies or transcode to ProRes anyway so that might not even be an issue).

    Battery life is quite poor, and whenever you pull it away from your eye, the whole Live-view + IBIS + Lens IS thing still runs for another 10+2 seconds. ECO mode does nothing except darkens the screen after 2 sec, yet the back LCD is only a tiny energy consumer in this camera.
    Canon firmware seem to only address foolish issues like vlogger's hallucinations and other insignificant stuff.
    The absence of the top LCD is another huge minus. I never use a mode dial as 99.99% of my shooting is in Manual + Auto ISO.
    In this day and age a mode dial is kinda passe, how easy it would be to just hold the RATE button (which is otherwise useless) and turn a dial to change modes.

    The thing that stopped me buying the R6 is how it switches from photo to video - if your a hybrid shooter its a bit clumsy.
