    I use the rainbow that my parents bought in the 70's and it still works perfectly! My neighbor has a Dyson who came over with it and we vacuumed my rug. I was impressed! Went over it again with the rainbow right afterwards and it was amazing on how much more dirt was picked up that the Dyson missed. A week later we did the reverse, using the rainbow first. Going over it with the dyson showed no dirt. A few years later her Dyson went belly up and my rainbow is still trucking along and it is fifty years old!

    Mom had one in the 90s and we loved it... had someone come show us the SRX and they wanted $3,000 and I wasn't going to spend that much. I went to Facebook market place and they go for around $1,000. I asked everyone if they would take $400. Had 1 person that said $500 and I snagged it up! All I've done is replace the hepa filter. Runs wonderfully!!!!

    I think she said the Rainbow does not have a filter. It does have a hepa filter which needs to be changed out periodically. I called my Rainbow distributor to ask about this and she said if we have pets, then change the filter about once a year or so. We have no pets and do not smoke so she said we won’t need a new filter for a long time. We have the same model as the one in the video which is the SRX and we’ve had it for about 3 years now and the filter is still good.

    I have my Rainbow since 1996! It still runs because the filter is water. When you use bags, all the dirt does is get pulverized into smaller pieces and that's what you are breathing in - finer dust particles. We used to have the expensive Kirby's and Electrolux's had to buy the replacement filters and the thing stunk, you could tell someone vacuumed. With the water filter, you suck in all flea eggs, roaches, spiders - they are DEAD IN THE WATER! with the bag filters, you gotta tape them down so the bugs won't crawl out and bite you in the butt! The spiders, bugs, fleas are all dead in the water! No vacuum is perfect, but I've had my Rainbow for years and because of the water filter, it has never died on me. The Kirby and Electrolux died and had to get new ones. You never have to replace Rainbows.

    The key difference in carpet cleaning is the Dyson canister has an air-driven turbo brush in which a small fan spins the brush whereas the Rainbow has a dedicated electric motor that turns the brushroll. Turbo brushes have less agitation power. Electric powerheads cost more because of the additional motor and wiring required to power it but they can use bigger brushrolls and make stronger carpet agitation. That's why the Dyson canister only cleans the top of the carpet and the Rainbow deep cleans the carpet.

  • @WJCTechyman
    @WJCTechyman Рік тому +3

    The Rainbow wavering in pitch like that with the gurgling means it was overloaded with something that foams in the water and there are a couple of reasons for that. One could be whatever was used to shampoo that carpet used a cleaning solution that foams, say from a Rug Doctor or an agent from dry "suds" or encapsulation cleaning like a Kirby. The other being that the Dyson really wasn't cleaning your carpet (no surprise there since Dysons automatically void carpet warranties due to either poor performance of deep cleaning or they shred carpet fibres prematurely wrecking the carpet) and the Rainbow was collecting all of that filth left over from years of cleaning.
    To minimize this from happening, the Rainbow should be emptied every 15-30 minutes of vacuuming. You just keep an eye on the water and when it is brown, it should be changed and the water in your machine needed changing as not only because of the sound but the water also wasn't flowing the way it should have.

    The D series Rainbows were the best machines they ever made,from both an aesthetic and performance and build quality standpoint. When they changed to plastic it was all downhill. The reason the new ones have hepa filters is because not all dust is trapped by water and people dont change the water often enough. Adding the hepa filter negates the entire point of water filtration. Constant airflow.

    People love the claim that the whole vacuuming with one machine and then going over with another is an old salesman trick. I don't agree. Every vacuum will always leave some little amount of something behind unless you go over and over the same spot forever. But a great vacuum will always get the most on the first try as apposed to a crappy vacuum anytime. Rainbow's are just better machines than Dyson's. Especially with the vacuum head! Rainbow vacs have much better agitation than Dyson. Dyson doesn't have great agitation for anything above low pile carpets. Even those they aren't great for. They are best for quick clean ups and suction. Suction is the only thing they excel with but with attachments that fall short the suction is rather wasted. Rainbows are great cleaners and the water basin is a quick clean up unlike the bagless design of the Dyson. Yeah you can empty them quick enough...till you have to clean out the cyclones and that is a disgusting long process that anyone not tech savvy or comfortable with taking them apart isn't not going to do. And the battery powered Dyson's... forget even trying to take them apart as the cyclone is built into top alone with all the electronics but if you don't do it your Dyson will have a perpetual odor even with clean filters. Rainbows just dump the basin and rinse it out and make sure the little separator is clean here and there and you're good. All easy to do for anyone.

      Umm, no. You don't get the same quality of clean and you're cursed with spending money on expensive consumables like filters and bags plus Sebo and Miele last a fraction of the lifetime of a Rainbow plus you cannot do wet cleaning like mopping floors, washing your carpets and cleaning upholstery like you can with a Rainbow. If I was to recommend a bagged vacuum cleaner, it would be anything from Numatic. Eurovacs are more of a pain to do simple maintenance to the power nozzle and machine than Rainbows are as well. Do not get me started on Sebo power nozzles and the crappy way to do service to them when a brushroll has to be replaced, you don't replace the bearings as well. Also, if the brushes on the brushroll are worn out on a Rainbow PN2(E) and this PN3, you just replace the brush strips. Sebo machines you put more plastic in the garbage because you are tossing the whole brushroll.

    • @Tepenahs

      @@WJCTechyman All I’m suggesting is for anyone who’s in the market for a new vacuum to consider Miele or Sebo (Numatic is good too) before dropping $2-3K on a Rainbow. Sebo and Miele make phenomenal machines, consumables are not expensive, particularly Sebo, and bags and filters do not need to be changed every time you clean, like when you have to dump the water out of a Rainbow, clean the tank and dry it after every use. Rainbows aren’t bad machines, but there are other really great vacuums to also consider.
