  • This video attempts to capture the advantages of individually tunable laser and illuminator output offered by the Wilcox Raid Xe.
I chose just before sunrise to film it, which simulates a full-moon night, as this makes picking up the laser/illuminator on higher settings with a filming device through a PVS14, much easier, otherwise on darker nights the filming device will "wash out" the finer details and the illuminator just looks like a huge disk of light/the sun, pretty much.
In this video I demonstrate the tuning of high laser illuminator and pointer, as well as switching to flood/room illuminator mode, which only works in the "low" setting, and is not tunable for output.
This was filmed through a L3 Unfilmed WP PVS14 with a halo of 0.8, an EBI of 0.4, and an SNR of 33, with a resolution of 72lp/mm, and represents a typical solidly performing PVS14 with this type of tube.
This Wilcox Raid Xe is mounted on a rifle, flush with the end of the rail, and a KAC QDC suppressor is mounted near flush with the rail, which is the reason for the shadow displayed during the NEAR/ROOM illuminator demonstration. I left it in place so the viewer could see how a suppressor may impact their experience with the Raid Xe on a typically set up rifle.

I think the fact that you can turn down the power makes it superior to the ngal.

It's extremely difficult to film through analog tubes and not wash things out, but in person, it's excellent and crisp.
