I found the 604H unlistenable. The phase did not remain constant. There was no setting in which you could adjust just the HF without the phase being impacted too. It's the reason I went to my own solution.
Any update on the progress of this? I'm particularly to see the cabinet and understand its design objectives. And, the ALK vs GP crossover comparison will be very interesting.
Not to be mean but the GP crossover was unstable. With 2 pots it additionally modulated phase... It could not be dialed in. The ALK provided only HF adjustment which is all that's needed. 4th order/4th order. The GP drivers are insanely good, but the 604 crossover didn't work at all.
Yes I found the GP attenuators a bad match for the driver. I determined resistance needed and installed 30 ohm on the MF section leaving the HF section open. Also replaced the tweeter caps to Jupiter copper oil. Much better, still need subwoofers for best balance. How did your new crossovers fare?
Alan, Ill try to do some followup video about the speakers… I have 2 sets of 604s living their best lives… one in a 612 cab and the other in a 5cu cab of my design both sound amazing and Im super pleased. The crossover made all the difference for me.
@@ronbadley9179 Im beyond pleased. I may start selling the crossovers. I think the idea of 2 attenuators id a failed proposition. Simply attenuating the HF is both consistent with traditional approaches and just more logical. The high order filter makes its so I can find the crossover between the 2 drivers anymore which alway felt like the weak link for the 604.
Hi I'm just planning a cabinet build for two reconned 604-8k drivers by great plains audio I have with the replacement new great plains N 604-8c crossovers and was thi of building the 620A cabs more internal volume then others . Have you heard anything on that combination?
The crossover has proved a success. I do lose 1db of sensitively but they negligible as compared to actually having a crossover that works. In stock form the crossover was unusable and barely listenable. Re lifting cabs. I’m unsung in my office. In my seated Position I have no issues. Maybe if first back in a large room I was lift or tilt.
Hello dear. What crossover do you have or are you going to put in the 604... please... is it recommended...? And if so. Where can I find the company. I want to put together something similar. Thanks for your help. Excellent video. TK. Hola estimado. Que crossover tiene o le va a colocar al 604..por favor...es recomendable..? Y si es asi. Donde puedo dar con la empresa. Quiero armarme algo similar. Gracias por su ayuda. Excelente video. Gracias.
IN a perfect world, id put a set of these inside a "Zu Audio" looking cabinet. I also love the look of the Altec "milestone" cabinet as well.
Please post the comparison of the two 604H crossovers

The 4th order network will likely reduce sensitivity significantly. Also you will need to raise the 612 cabinets so the tweeter is at ear level.
