I like the Bukayo Saka story. He made sure he got good A levels alongside the football. Always have a Plan B, just in case..

08:50 reaching out once a year for three years over the phone sounds like a tick box exercise. Imo it doesnt really give the impression the club truly cares, which may be more harmful than good.

A plan B should be built in to an Academy

They don't care. It's all PR. They are assets to sell. That costs money. Only big 6 clubs can afford it. Anyone else just wants to stay in the Premier League

this whole series is complete bullshit. Clubs do not care about academy players who don't make it. There needs to be mass reform. create genuine routes back into real jobs after football. This is true aftercare. And by real jobs, it's not reaching out to see what you're up to. How many ex footballers could be CEOs, directors, marketers, chief scouts, referees? Make paths to real careers within sport realistic.

Not enough jobs in coaching. It's an old boys network

@ agreed! You have to have played 500 games and been a legend to make it at elite level (a few lads changing that dynamic now but they’re the anomaly). Why does it cost £10k to complete a UEFA A license in this country when Germany do it for a few hundred euro? The barriers to entry in the UK are HUGE. Why are Sky doing such an inconsiderate/ fake lip service review and not highlighting things that anyone who’s remotely connected to the game know are huge flaws in the system. Pathetic

Bunch of babies. How about support the person at work who just got fired because his performance wasn’t up to scratch. Same thing.

Difference is that these are children who are made to compete in a serious professional environement. Same with child actors and such, these kinds of professions need strict supervising.
