The Big Bad Wolf on Steamboat Willie's Public Domain Status

- Well, 2024 is here, and with it comes Walt Disney's "Steamboat Willie" entering the public domain. The Big Bad Wolf points out that this doesn't meant Mickey Mouse is completely a public domain character; just his original 1920s form is. And horror movie and game creators have even strategically planned to announce such new projects on New Year's Day. One such movie, "Mickey's Mousetrap," even uses a familiar tight rubber Halloween mask of the iconic rodent, and the Big Bad Wolf explains a bit about the use of such masks in those kind of films.
I'm happy you reminded me and every other disney fan that the black and white Mickey Mouse is going into the public domain and not the other Mickey Mouse that was alot more friendly then the early Mickey Mouse.
That moment with Zak Wolf appearing with several masks on was unexpected.
And speaking of wolves, it's the 67th anniversary of Looney Tunes cartoon "Three Little Bops".
Crazy thing about that horror Mickey film is that they're literally copying what happened when Pooh first came out to Public Domain. Which is really weird and messed up.
I'm just glad I got to hear Sterling Holloway's recording of the "Oh help and bother" line in Once Upon a Studio.
Can't Believe Steamboat Willie was now Public Domain for Life so Yeah.
Ever since Mickey went to the Public Domain, I obviously noticed a lot of people were freely and quickly uploading "Steamboat Willie" on here, including its uncensored version, which I have also seen.
Isn't the uncensored version of Steamboat Willie the cartoon that we've all seen before?
@@marissawolff8491 well, I saw the censored version first way back when I first watched the cartoon itself.

I don't see any differences.
0:59 Disgraceful! Disgusting! Despicable!😤😠😡
I'm surprised Mickey Mouse is a little bit of mine in the Public Domain
I was hoping you’d talk about this. I’m worried about other Disney characters possibly being copyright free in several years, such as Snow White.
To be fair, the character and general story of Snow White are already public domain as a folkloric character and folktale, respectively.
@@Arigriphantua Yeah.
FUN FACT: In 2029, Disney's Three Little Pigs short (that FEATURE The Big Bad Wolf) will be in the public domain. So you only have to wait 5 years until the short reached the Public Domain status!
and Snow White
Nobody puts these lovely disney characters in public domain! No one!
E.H. Shepard's original iteration of Tigger is entering the public domain this year, too, Wolfy. He made his debut in the second Pooh book, which was published in 1928.
I knew this already. And that means all four original Pooh books by A. A. Milne are Public Domain now.
Yep which then makes sense about Tigger appearing in the next Blood and Honey sequel.

No, we don't need that!
@@marissawolff8491 Of course, that I agree with. but unfortunately it's happening very soon because a trailer will be shown by the end of this month :(
Great use of the stretching sound effect. Including Treg Brown's 'Looney Tunes' stretching sound.
I bet Wile E. Coyote would be really unhappy if the year 2045 has a horror movie based of Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner when the 1949 debut short Fast and Furry-ous enters the public domain.
I believe that the 95 year copyright protection rule will apply to all copyrighted works up until 1977. So, by the Year 2065, all theatrical Warner Bros. cartoons from 1930-1969 will be in the public domain. A Wild Hare (1940) will enter the public domain in 2036. For copyrighted works that are from 1978 to 2002 that are corporate ownership, the copyright will expire 95 years after first publication or 120 years after creation, whichever is shorter, so the copyright of 1988 works will expire in either 2084 or 2108 and by the year 2120, the copyright of all works in the 20th century would’ve expired by then.
(Gasp!) Well, it's not going down like that! There's only one thing that will destroy and abandoned public domain so the childhood characters shall never ever go in there!
#Stoppublicdomain
Wow. This is incredible.
4:32 Big Bad Wolf!!!
5:02 Mickey!!!
5:31 Zac Wolf!!!
😱😵😫😩😮😯😰😨😧😦
It sure is messed up that not only Winnie The Pooh got a indie horror movie adaptation, but Mickey Mouse is getting one as well. All because they’re both in the public domain.
Well, somebody's gonna get jagged edge productions a punishment day for doing bad stuff to these poor childhood characters like that! And I'm gonna keep Pooh and Mickey mouse out of the scary public domain place once and for all!
1:19 Still, I don't want to live on this planet anymore!
How scary, and besides we already got a horror game based on the old Mickey Mouse called Bendy and the ink machine
IT’S HARVEST TIME
0:52 - I have seen one sketch from John Oliver. It was based on Thomas the Tank Engine, and it featured Henry as a freight train, causing problems for the other people and vehicles of Sodor due to how much freight he has to pull, a majority of it being liquified natural gas. It was much better than how Mattel has handled Thomas as of late.
3:14 - IMO, the highlight of these masks is the one of Earl Sinclair in the upper-left corner.
5:25 - I know. I have seen your Arthur UA-cam Poop on that subject.
Steamboat Mickey and Steamboat Pete are still racers in Disney Speedstorm, but they were in that game before they officially became Public Domain characters.
That was a funny John Oliver sketch!
Zak Wolf himself won't enter the public domain until 2115 and 2118 is when Sam Valentino will enter the public domain.
Infestation 88?!
Why didn't they call it
Screamboat killie?
Well, the 1940s Superman cartoons were in public domain.
Maybe since's he's in the public domain I would like a Animanicas styled movie instead of a corny horror movie and game.
I do not like the Horror Versions of Winnie The Pooh and Mickey at all
I’m just trying to wait real patiently for The 1955-59 Mickey Mouse Club to become part of The Public Domain for…………………………..completely different reasons. Let’s put it that way😉
yo i got a question how much are you offering for that mask?
Sorry, but it's not for sale.

I do not like this horror movie about Winnie the Pooh blood and Honey and Mickey's Mousetrap
And Winnie the Pooh blood and Honey 2 I really hate horror movie I do not like this.😮😢
And I know who's making those Disney's favorite childhood characters in the public domain, it's Jagged Edge Productions! They're the ones who made horror movies out of everyone's favorite childhood characters! And, this is why we are going to deny and delay all of the horror movies for the horror company, because it really breaks everyone's heart very badly! And so does Winnie The Pooh and Mickey mouse and a few others. And remember when I watch a rant video on disney horror movies? It's the only way to get jagged edge Productions to get sued by Disney big time.
