I have 2 students looking at these. I played a purple alto Lazarro today and wow I was surprised. They are on sale for $289 at the moment. That's a killer price. The intonation sounded decent too.
My recommendation to anyone wanting a beginner curved soprano sax is the Conn SC650 it has good ergonomics, it's easy to play for soprano, & it has good intonation with no major down falls (besides you have to go get a good mouthpiece yourself like with any cheaper horn). Also it's built to last with a 2 year warranty. Also it was priced at the starter price range of right over $700.
Thanks for the review. It has been tempting to get one of these, but I think the intonation would get on my nerves. I guess I will keep waiting and get something a little better.
Beautiful video. You describe the market reality of curved soprano saxes very well. The "intermediate" category is missing and we go from very low cost models (like this Lazarro one you reviewed) directly to super professional ones like Yanagisawa. I already have a pro soprano (straight though) and I would also like to have a curved one. I don't want to spend a fortune, but at the same time buy at least a decent instrument. Any suggestions? Cordial greetings.
Great review thanks ! I have one of these cheap sops I honestly just bought it because I wanted a curved sop I have a Selmer Mark VI straight sop that’s perfect with the sweetest tone ever but I wanted a cute curved sop. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the tone is and you are correct about them being fun to play . I take mine with me when I travel it can go carry on and it’s fun to pull out like a party horn it makes people smile as most people haven’t seen a curved soprano sax . Well worth the price .
I used a Yanagisawa Metal 7, with Rover Ligature. The stock mouthpiece is a cheap knock of of a beginner Yamaha 4C plastic. It's not "bad" per say, but definitely not great, and your biggest upgrade in sound on just about any horn, is a good mouthpiece.
So I have one of these and I forgot how long ago my dad got it. I just played it today for the first time in a while and it is almost a half step flat. I pushed in the mouthpiece as far as it would go but it was still super flat and idk how to fix that. If you can help I would really appreciate it.
Its more of how the instrument is made and its tubing and length. Some of the key wholes are just ever so slightly in the wrong place to make the correct pitch, which then puts the next key even farther off and so on. Its a design issue with the horn.

Intonation is a major concern to soprano saxophone, but somehow I found a particular mouthpiece can fix it, for instance, Meyer rubber mouthpiece.

You killed it Jeff 🔥🔥🔥
Very nice review, many thanks 😊👋🎷I will translate this for russian language.
When you played it in the video, did you use the stock mouthpiece and Reed, or did you use a different one

Do you think getting it serviced and have someone try to adjust it would fix it playing flat? or is it just too far gone
I've seen that sanding the quark could help its intonation a little but I haven't tried it

You should review your professional horns.
That's actually a good idea. I have a few more of the cheaper ones to finish up, then I'll get working on those.
