@@MattAngiono Well, there is a study regarding how bacteria sacrifices themselves for the survival of the entire colony... when they encounter an antibiotic (the study was on E. coli), the colony takes a spherical like shape, and the bacteria from the exterior died because they are expose to higher doses of antibiotic, in order for the bacteria from inside to be expose to lower doses of antibiotic, and to live....
So for me, this kind of sacrifice (altruism in a sense) it is a form of expressing feeling.
Does the viruses and prions have feelings? We don't know. We are not sure even if they are alive or not.

The coolest experiment i ever saw was on a program where they trained a dog by showing it one toy and giving it a snack, a second different toy resulted in petting and praise. Once they had the dogs prepared, they were put in the machine and a person stood out of sight and showed the toys to the dog. The pleasure centers light up more and more strongly when the toy for praise was shown than for the snack. The dogs got more pleasure from anticipating a loving response than for food. It laid to rest the skeptics who say that dogs regard us as nothing more than food providers.
Not only do they have feelings, but they are way more intelligent than non-owners will ever realize. I have had dogs that amazed me with the things they knew and could do. Also, each of them had a different personality. And yes, they DO watch TV and know what they are seeing, our dog recognized and reacted to a white porcelain cat on "The Antiques Road Show."
Like the current TV ad says, your life is enriched immensely by having dogs.

As a youth I was always told "dogs don't have feelings they are just manipulating you with behavior". Biggest set of lies. I volunteer in a rescue. When I cuddle a scared dog that just came in off he bus and other dogs see that they get Jellos. When I give treats some get envious. My dog throws pillows of the bed when she has a tantrum. When I pet another dog she gets insecure. I am convinced that people who deny that dogs have feelings also denie their own.

My dog gets really excited when I start putting shoes and socks on, then sulks like crazy if it's not to take her for a walk. She'll lie with her back to me with her head on her paws, with a face like curdled milk.
If she's pestering me and I ask what she wants, she might run to the front door (walk). If I go to the back door instead, to let her out into the garden, she *groans* like a human.
When we're out walking she'll pretty much ignore me until she realises I'm turning for home. Then she'll immediately sit down and give me a staring contest. If I try to encourage her with the lead, she'll just lie down and keep up that unblinking eye contact.

This makes sense. out of the first wolves that came into human camps 50,000+ years ago, only the friendlier ones would have survived. Aggressive or dangerous wolves would have been killed or chased out of camp. The friendly ones were allowed to stay and interbred alongside humans and became what we know today.

When I ask my dog what she wants she either licks her lips for hungry, nuzzles me for love and cuddles, walks to the front door for going out and pee pees and gets her toys for playing. They’re always communicating, I find it’s not the dogs that don’t know what’s going on but the humans! Humans don’t watch or understand their animals, or respond to their needs.

What would be more parsimonious? That they have feelings, or that they somehow are able to perfectly mimic having feelings in all circumstances without having feelings? That nature evolved feelings once, or that it evolved feelings and then a separate feelings-fakery system? At this point when I see this question I just laugh and move on. It's at the level of people who ask things like, "Is the moon real?".

Why would dog not have feelings.
What animal science that I am interested in is that newer generations of scientist are actually more open to the Idea of us being not more special then any other animal on this planet and looking at the intelligence and communication of animals. In recent years there was this trend of teaching dogs and cats to communicate using buttons with voices and apparently some universities are doing studies to see how much of it is learned from us rewarding button use and how much it is from the dog communicating. As well they are looking to see how dogs interpret human language.
I don't know if any of those studies are out yet but from what I have seen, I do believe dogs do have some form of language interpretation different then ours but also seem to be able of understanding more things then the basic words they use in the buttons. Dog collars that actual intercept electrical signals from dog brains could one day allow us to have a 2 way conversation that does not require us teaching the dog to use buttons or us learning the physical language of the dogs.

The barriers that differentiate humans from other animals have been withered down to nothing over recent years.
Some softened are there in degree, but not in kind.
That's why veganism is such an important philosophy.
We shouldn't treat animals any differently than we treat ourselves, at least as far as abuse is concerned.
We need to rethink why we enslave and exploit sentient creatures hardly different from us

So friendly dogs exemplify the idea of survival of the fittest. Ie they evolved to fit their environment. The phrase is commonly misused as it doesn't refer to physical fitness as in going to the gym but fittest for the local environment. So dwarf plants are the fittest for high windswept plateaux while mangroves are the fittest for marine edge environments.
But thanks for this evidence to prove that pet owners have not been imagining things all these years. 👍👍
