The string vest is associated with slobs, couch potatoes and those type of characters. Love Rab c nesbitt, great watching it back and getting your thoughts on it! My dad was called Rab (short for Robert) and we used to watch this together, like most scottish families!
The string vest is really just to emphasis his deprivation. It was already out of date by the Nineties, but again, I think that's kind of the point too.
'' see since you left him, he's went right up hill '' lol
It's basically a Scottish married with children
you reaction to this Kid, was hilarious !
Thanks bro!!!!
That´s the Waitrose in Byres road, isnt it? Used to be a Safeway, and here a Gateway.
Nope, it is at Anniesland cross, it was a Somerfield many years ago before being turned into what it is now, which is a Poundland.
I used to watch this show any years ago. The guy who plays nesbitt was in cigar commercials.
His name is Gregor Fisher.
yeah the advert was for Hamlet cigars :)
Christ I forgot the job centre was there in Govan cross lol
Got to watch some chewin the fat that,s where jack and victor first appeared.
if u want a good laugh, watch " peep show " its a first person camera ( with inside thought dialogue ) ADULT sitcom ,was a very popular comedy in the 2000s
When Jamesy goes tae see Rab at his 'place of employ' he has a bottle of Irn Bru in his pocket.....Scotland's other National drink
One of the earliest British Comedies I know of where the main character frequently broke the 4th wall. Good old Rab. The guy that plays his son "Wee Burney" was actually an adult with dwarfism. Died at the young age of 31 of a heart attack :(
When this series came out, many Glaswegians were not happy as it represented Glasgow in a bad light but it must be remembered that Govan has produced many very talented people. At the top of the list is Sir Alex Ferguson, one of the greatest football (soccer) managers of all time.
It couldn't have been any worse for the city's reputation when Chewin the Fat hit the TV screens. That was utter trash. With or without Rab, Glasgow was always a bear pit and it still is today.
I'm from Scotland and I watched rab c nesbit all the time, it was made in the late 80s I think. I don't know how you can understand the show tho lol
7:54 There's Stevie the Bookie from Still Game. Also, the wee lad in the brown leather jacket w/ Rab & the other two lads in the pub, was Brian Pettifer, who played Bert in one episode of Still Game. At the end of it, he winds up w/ Mrs. Begg.
Great job on reacting to this man. I'm from England and personally I understand 99% of the dialogue, but I have friends and family who struggle for a lot of it, despite having Scottish friends their selves. Really surprised to see an American get it so well. You've got good perception skills clearly! Can't wait to watch the rest of these again on your channel. Subbed.
thank you very much. rab show has grown over me over the episodes. glad I'm watching it :)
I love rab c I was brought up watching it. I think rab c was 1 of the first to break the 4th wall.
I watched all of them and will watch again and again and again, lol
Classic, watched way too many times, I know a lot of the dialogue, and still makes me laugh, never gets boring! Grew up with it, love it, I have all the series. Rab is a prince among men and Marys no bad! ‘Beat it’!
I will tell you this, me too.🙂
You really should check out "Nighty Night" on BBC! Its dark British comedy. Its amazing.
Jamesy on his computer: "Here, Ella, how do ya spell sphincter?".
Brilliant.
The park Rab works at was filmed at Rouken Glen Park, my local public park, good to see the old Eastwood District Council emblem on Dorothy Paul's van in 1996 Eastwood District was replaced with East Renfewshire Council. The scene Ewan McGregor & Jonny Lee Miller shot a dog with a BB gun while discussing Sean Connery in Trainspotting was also filmed in Rouken Glen Park.
I went to that Job Centre in 1995 😂
holy crap! thats cool tho hahah
As a tourist?!
Ann Other no, I lived in that part of Glasgow 😂
Midnight Toker Ha... I’m 41 coming up 42, I had a easy paper round 😂
Midnight Toker born in 78 bud
Irene Sunters puts in an appearance as Mary's mother. Possibly better known as Maggie Ferguson the village gossip from early episodes of Take the High Road.
I'm amazed you can understand the Scottish. A lot of Americans struggle
im sure I miss somethings on the show to be honest. but these shows are great. a lot of gems you guys have mentioned. I love being open minded. if I ever miss a part don't hesistate to let me know whats going on in the scene. I try to listen to everything as best I can :P
A lot of us English effing struggle m8 lol
@@bxkid7it sounds like u understand accent well ,try some chewin the fat a sketch show that hasn't been reacted to yet. It's were characters fae still game , Jack n Victor came from .
@@Mviews-hb4ib your comment has me crying lol 😂😂😂
@@keithcampbell9153 i got you Keith I'll react to it this week. Happy and healthy new year my browski!
My dad used to watch this,I was just a kid, school age,lol..love from UK!!!!!
does he watch it anymore or nah?
I watched as a kid still do I'm surprised my mum and dad let me my son loves it too 😂
The woman who is Rab's boss is Tam's sister in law in the still game episode saucy Dorothy Paul is her name
If you wore a string vest in the sun you ended up with a checkered body lol😅
lol i guess people could play checkers on my body or some chess lol
If you can find it (and doesn't get copyrighted) you should try two doors down its got jamsey and mary in it its great.
I've been a fan of the governor of Glasgow Rab C Nesbitt since i first watched Seasonal Greet back in 1989 and continued with every series and every episode right up to series 10 and i can tell you i know every word he says before he says it cause I've watched them that many times. Rab was old school.
Hey You I am talkin to you Its Poverty at its finest, have nae money, nae clays, no prospects, and there ya are in paradise.
Rab C Nesbit walked alone, with owls in his shoes, a string vest in a temperature of Minus 30 C, and he took op his vest as it was to wam.
Ya see pal it disney matter how much the rich look down on the likes of us Poor, we just smile and stick two fingers up.
So Bugger Op
Burnie impersonating Mary was the funniest shit ever!
The string vest as we call it was worn by Scottish men for years. My father was from govan where Rab c nessbit is about
I don´t believe you´ll be able to understand this. It had subtitles in England for fuck´s sake! hahaha
The one who played Rabs smaller son died during or aftercan operation, after which turned out he was a child abuser
Used to watch this at my grans. This is based in govan (a part of glasgow) Where she lives so could see what has changed since then since this started around the time i was born.. Also she would go on about how we burney was dead in real life and some of the stuff he was accused of.
The Park he working at is a 5-10 min drive from my dads house.
Fair play to you yank for having the audacity. This is 7th dan Scottish you're dealing with. Thinking of the comments you're likely to draw I wonder do you have other hobbies, maybe interpretive minefield dancing.
Rab C is pretty much fully reacted to on my channel minus one live show. I'll tell you this boy hobbies good question lol who knows lol
60s and 70s for the old string vest and pants, I know cos I had some.
Did you notice thats auld Bert from Still Game ,the wee 1 at the bar
😢😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I think Rab C Nesbitt is funny
I remember one Christmas my uncle bought me a rab c nesbit vhs tape in 1991 I was 10 and I went over and said I can't understand a word they all saying he and my mum was cracking up. Then he gave me my real preset tmnt vhs tapes :D
tmnt!!!!! memories for me right there.
@@bxkid7 oh me too man I loved that show
I love Rabbles but much prefer to actually eat the video properly without having it stuck up in a corner of the screen, while we have to watch the yank watching it.
I didn't know you could eat a video learn something new each day. If you need to find the full video google is your friend. All the best. The original is out there for you to consume. This is my own reaction and my journey to watch a show I end up enjoying.
@@bxkid7 Live and learn, what I meant got lost in translation. I am glad that you enjoyed Rab, I'd have thought you'd need subtitles to get any of it. It's hard enough for us English south of the border to catch every phrase, let alone word.
I will tell you this boy!!
Loved the Reaction glad you’re liking our Scottish humour from Still Game, Frankie Boyle & This 😁
If you have time in your schedule you should check out as well Billy Connelly & Kevin Bridges great Stand up comedians, Chewing The Fat, Burnistoun, and maybe some older shows like City Lights, Scotch and Wry & maybe even the Detective drama Taggart 😁
I can't really watch these now cos the actor who played his son, Burney, the smaller one, Eric Cullen, was done for child pornography in 1995, it turned out he was abused himself at a younger age. He died of a heart attack just as they were going to ask him to come back. Very sad story.
16:52 Rab's boss is played by Dorothy Paul who played Margaret in one the finest Scottish comedy plays known as "The Steamie" which was directed by non-other than Tony Roper aka "Jamsie" in this:, I recommend that you give it a watch some time, its a fabulous watch.
I was eight when this first aired. I'm from Glasgow. The biggest threat in my life at that point was my mum asking if I wanted her to take off her slipper. Slapping your weans with a hand. No in ma Ma's hoose.
The actor that played his son was abused. It's a horrible and sad story
def didn't know that. that is sad man. he was great on this episode seemed like a good actor!
The D.S.S. Department of Social Security was often refered to as "The S.S." in Glasgow slang lol
Naebody like us for banter by the way! Elaine C Smith was my cousin's Drama teacher many years ago in Edinburgh and was adored by her pupils.
Mary Doll!!!
@@bxkid7 Aye, thats the wan 😄
You should check out Glesga cowboys' on chewing the fat. Absolute class 👌
@@frederickkinnell already watched all of chewin the fat
Rab C forever. SCOTLAND FOREVER
Yes it ìs
nice
Hilarious!
have a look in discussions at bxkid7 lol
just checked it now. so weird I didn't get notifications for it! lol I got you
Ahh, Mary Nesbitt, what a wumin, what a wumin
This is even better than when I watched it first time around - which was in the late 1980s, as a teenager, every Thursday night with my parents.
We loved it so much that, when they finally came to town to do a live show, we were there - seeing them in 3D. Superb.
had to be an awesome site to see live!
Got to love Mary
Youl notice a lot of familiar faces from still game in the rab c nesbitts I love that about Scottish comedy they all star in each other’s stuff they all help each other out 👌🏼👌🏼
It's hardly about helping each other out. It comes down to a limited pool of Scottish comedy actors.
Never seen this before, it was a fun episode
Russel crow should play Rab
do the episode called Cocktails
Love Rab c. Old skool.
Thanks for the reaction dude every town and city in Scotland has at least one person just like rab
I might be wrong but I'm sure the actor playing rab is a classically trained actor
A really good episode to watch and see just how good he is as a actor is called the cell
Thanks my brother glad you enjoyed it! Will do my dude
I saw him on stage - he's definitely a proper actor, no question.
The problem is that he became typecast ... because he was so good at being Rab C. Nesbitt - people thought he was something like that in real life.
As an actor, that's surely the moment when you know you've made it.
But it's also a curse.
@@jazzx251 The same happened with Harry H. Corbett when he looked for work after Steptoe and Son. Becoming too famous for one character is a curse!
The guy that game into pub to get Rab because his flat is on fire---Stevie the bookie from Still Game. I remember another episode, Isa from still game plays a nurse!
i got to keep my eye out more on faces in the show lol
Must be close on 30 yrs since Rab C was on t.v. As funny now as when it first aired. The malky (headbutt) had me in tears. Great reaction 👍
Thank you! That headbutt had me dieing. Wow to think close to 30 years has passed on that show and it's still funny as heck speaks volumes on the show. I've always been one of those guys that thinks a lot of the old shows tend to be better. Not that all new shows are bad.
@@bxkid7 Was one of the funniest shows on t.v at the time. Sadly you probably wouldn't get away with making a show like that now as its not exactly p.c enough for the modern day.
@@AH-wm3ri so many shows these days much lighter. I miss some of the older stuff so much :)
Headbutt or 'Glasgow kiss'
@Midnight Toker nah you are right but seeing as Rab C first aired in 1988 I make it actually 32 years. 2010 on the other hand is indeed not 30 yrs but in fact 10. 👍
