    Thanks for reiterating the distinctions again, it's really important that everyone follow the rules so Disney isn't tempted to shut down disneybounding entirely! My room mate and I were there last Spring and we definitely saw a ton of people who were looking a bit too costumey for our comfort. Dapper Day is a fun event and we don't want to see it shut down because people aren't respecting the park's rules.

      There definitely is a difference, but I think it has to do with Florida having more tourists on any given day and Disneyland having more APs. -Tiff

    I'll probably be wearing a wig for Dapper Day because a) my hair isn't really long enough to style and b) I'll have work in the afternoon so can't really style it as I'll expected to be Disney look by 3pm. I'm really passionate about DisneyBounding but I don't see this as an issue. The wig won't even be the same colour or style as my character. I honestly don't see it as a problem as long as you're not trying to emulate the character...

      NumptyParis even then if it's a subtle not to the character I don't think it would be an issue. Like a flower in a braid for Rapunzel

    Hey Sarah! I'm planning on doing a Lady disbound for my visit to the park next week. Do you think it would be appropriate to put my hair in pigtails?? It's such a simple outfit and I think the pigtails would add a nice level of class that Lady has, but I don't wanna push the line with Disbounding/cosplaying. What are your thoughts?? Thank you!

    Hi Sarah honest question what are your opinions on Disney Tokyo a lot of people cosplay there I think its become part of the culture and its encouraged. Do you frown upon cosplay because it takes away from character integrity or mainly because its agains the Disney Park policy in the U.S.?

    • @Thingamavlogs
      @Thingamavlogs  7 років тому

      PixarFreak I'm unsure if it's against the rules in Tokyo since that park isn't technically owned by Disney. It's definitely not allowed in all of the officially licensed Disney parks. If it's not allowed, it's not allowed. If one park allows it, I think that's weird and dumb and causes confusion for the other parks, but hey, not my call. -sarah

    • @Thingamavlogs
      @Thingamavlogs  7 років тому +1

      Just to chime in on this, Tokyo Disneyland encourages full costumes during the first and last week of their Halloween season because they do not offer special ticketed events like Disneyland and Walt Disney World. You can read about that in the last section of their Halloween seasonal page: www.tokyodisneyresort.jp/event/detail/str_id:tdl_halloween2016/en/ Full cosplay/costumes are allowed, only if it's a Disney character, and doesn't break any other outfit rules, such as masks, large props, etc. Most park-goers who do go all out on costumes during October are Japanese, and many of them go as non-human characters. Character integrity also isn't completely compromised when you are dressing up as a character with a different ethnicity. It sounds weird to say, but it's the same as, for example, if I were to cosplay Tiana. No one would confuse me for the real Tiana because I'm caucasian- BUT it *still* a costume and isn't allowed in the parks unless sanctioned by that Disney park at the time it would be worn. All that being said, I've been to Tokyo Disneyland a few times, including Halloween, and the park-goers are the most polite and rule-abiding of *any* other Disney park in the world. They have a high respect for the rules and regulations of the park, so I don't see their costume allowances as an issues whatsoever. I saw costumes the day they were allowed and not a single one the following day when they were not. -Tiff

      I appreciate your well thought out response Sarah and Tiff. I'm interested to see how the influence of Japanese culture in modern America will transform Disney company as they may see profit in this rising fan base.

    Hey! I was just wondering if your opinion extends to the Halloween party, bc I know Disney allows costumes for the party, but I still wouldn’t want to ruin anyone’s experience by compromising character integrity but I’m having lots of fun putting together a really in depth costume and I’m conflicted

    So I am planning on going to Dapper day for the first time in the fall at WDW. I want to Disney bound as Merida and I have a green dress and then I found this leather belt that is really meant for cosplaying and it looks like the one that Medria is wearing when they include her in the princess branding. It comes with a broach and a small plaid sash to but they are removable. Do you think wearing the belt with the dress will be going in to the Cosbound area?

  • @caitlin_w
    @caitlin_w 7 років тому

    So agree with how important it is to follow the rules that Disney has put in place!
    Out of curiosity, does your point about wigs apply just when the wig is meant to make you look more exactly like a specific character? And does it just apply to wigs or to any sort of hair alteration. For instance, aren't you wearing hair extensions for Dapper Day? How does that differ from a wig? I'm not interested in ever changing my hair for something like this, but I'm very interested in what you have to say about this topic.
    Thanks for putting the word out there on this issue!

    • @Thingamavlogs
      @Thingamavlogs  7 років тому

      I personally consider wigs to be more of a costume piece than things like extensions because extensions are more for daily use than wigs are - but that depends on the person! Which is why I say that if you wear wigs often, then that's a different story. I know a lot of people who wears wigs regularly and I don't think that has to change for dapper day. But there are a lot of people who only wear wigs when performing, and so deciding to wear it on dapper day feels somewhat like becoming a character imo.

    I also feel that you lose some opportunities for creativity the closer you get to cosplaying. I understand the purpose of "bounding" is to be subtle to represent your character, a nod or echo; using "oh, but it's a Dapper ensemble" to get closer to the actual costume I think is denying your creative side.

    I’m pretty sure I’ve seen people “Disneybound” as Mary Poppins and Bert but their outfits are EXACTLY like Mary and Bert’s outfits but they say it’s a Disneybound because it’s Dapper Day and Mary and Bert already have Dapper outfits. If people wear outfits on Dapper Day that have similar coloring or are reminiscent of Mary and Bert that’s fine, it’s just when they dress exactly like them that it’s a problem.
