I made a custom mulching kit deck cover for my zero turn out of some sheet metal and some fabricating. #johndeere #tractor #landscaping #mowing #lawn #lawnmower
Fantastic. Am looking in on doing a diy one myself. The plastic ones for my mower is fairly cheap but if I can make something myself, I prefer to do that.
I bought a John Deere zero turn 48 inch Z330r riding mower that came with a side dispensing chute, similar to yours. As far as I know the blades that came with it are not for mulching. So I would need to purchase mulching blades to go with installing a fabricated cover like the one you created?
Highly recommend mulching blades on any mower. They do actually make a bolt on attachment that has a lever and the flap can be adjusted open or closed while sitting on the mower but it's not cheap. That's why I chose this route.
Absolutely. I just mulched the lawn yesterday. I have 3 giant maples in my backyard and I have to mulch them every week until they are all dropped. I use mulching blades and it completely pulverizes them into dust. I have to wear glasses and a mask because it does make big clouds of dust from the leaves.
I just purchased whatever mulching blades I could find online. The plexiglass probably wouldn't work because I've already banged the guard against a few trees and bent it slightly. I was able to bend it out but plexiglass would have easily broke.

Did it work? Any vids of it in action?
I don't have any video of it at the moment. It definitely deflects any objects from flying out like sticks and rocks, etc.
@@JimSperanza good for leaf mulching? I’m in Ohio going nuts lol. I have a Deere z355e zero turn

@@JimSperanza thx for the replies. What model blades you running and do you think a thick piece of plexiglass would work as a stopper?
